I thought the ABP (not to be confused with the PBA) was dead. However today I saw a post on Facebook by Charlie Williams today saying:

"I know. This is a badass picture. Cuz we are a bunch of Badasses. Please go and LIKE the ABP Pro Players Page. The only association in the world that protects the rights of players."

I find it interesting that CW is the only one really pushing this entity.

I don't think he is an officer but I think he is the guy directing the movement of ABP.

They put out a press release 'trying' to convince players to skip the world 10-Ball in Manialla. Oddly enough, it conflicts with the Johnny Archer classic in Atlanta - now a DP event.

There was a thread on AZ (about that press release) but it was deleted by mods (I think).

Until the ABP learns how to function as a responsible entity, they will have no credibility. They NEVER respond to questions, and where is their office. How do we even know they 'exist'? How do they take care of business?

I realize the players need a voice but - the only voice we hear is from DP or CW.

I would like to hear from some of the other players and members.

Interesting. That must have been a quick "pull". I'm on here A LOT (OK, too much) and I didn't see it...

Kinda makes you wonder what that's all about, hmmmmm?
 
I am hard of hearing but I could have swore I heard Johnny A say on TAR when asked about the ABP that he said it served its purpose, now we're just wating for it to go away on its own, or something like that. Johnnyt
 
Why were the players asked/told to boycott the PI 10-ball? Was that the one that was very slow paying the players. Johnnyt

It was the one that had some slow pay - BUT they were all paid. (Not unlike BB or Trudeau).

I think the ABP press release is VERY self serving.
DP has scheduled the Johnny Archer Classic on the same dates.
CW is very close to Puyat. Makabenta is the WPA recognized event , yet Puyat got the PI torecognize him.

If they can cause Makabenta to fail, Puyat (and CW) gain. Not unlike what happend 3 or 4 years ago when a lot of the players boycotted the same event.

A lot of questionable politics which is NOT GOOD for POOL.

I also find it interesting that the ABP had served its purpose.
I guess now CW has another purpose for it.

I know, I know - the detractors will just say 'Griffin does not like CW' - that is not true.

I just don't like the way he does business. And I don't respect his business ethics. As soon as he gets a little more power, he will be (once again) threatening the venues and the players - just like he did with the UPA several years ago.

Wait and see - at least I sign my name to what I write!!!!!!!!!!

Man, their player base has really shrunk. There used to be 80-something guys on it. The only names that are recognized players on this list are Mika, Rodney, Johnny, Stevie, Shannon, Alex, Gomez, Shane and Thorsten.

How can you have an international organization of just nine guys? I mean, if they had three hundred or so I would listen to their position, but nine guys? No thanks. The rest on that list are just shills and nobodys.
 
Also interesting that Efren and Busty aen'tlisted, unlike the original ABP listing of players a while ago.. Remember how Busty didn't know anything about his name being linked to the US Open Boycott...

We get random emails once in a while, but when we respond there was no response. I believe the players need to represented to protect their best interests, especially from fraud. Just not sure if there's staff behind the emails, they really are generic and it would be nice to have a real person responding to questions. I was ask to join and did, and received just a couple of emails after that regarding scheduling and the overseas tournament conflict. None of my friends that play seem to know anything either.
 
ABP dead? They were never alive to begin with.

Mark, you're right on the money. CW is using the name if anything for his own little agendas. His interests don't lie with either the ABP or pool.

The sooner JH and the rest realize that and kick CW to the curb, the better off they will be. And pool as well for that matter.
 
iT IS KIND OF IRONIC THAT C J WILEY WHO IS ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC PERSONALITIES IN THE GAME IS NOT PARTY TO THE INNER WORKINGS OF A PLAYER'S ASSOCIATION.
 
If the ABP is really coming alive again I'd like to see the promoters and the fans protected from the dumps. Johnnyt
 
This is deja vu. Does anybody remember who ruled the UPA at its genesis? The ABP is being handled the exact same way. There is no transparency, and it stinks to high heaven of favoritism.

It's a great organization for a player who is sponsored by Dragon. Those who aren't, well, good luck getting any help.

Charlies wins, either way. It's a great organization for Charlie; thus, why it's being publicized in *his* Facebook page.

An organization should be there for its members, and all members should be treated equally. The UPA didn't do it, and neither will the ABP. As long as those Dragon players are in with the favoritism, they will support it.

That's my story, and I'm sticking with it. :smile:

Uhhhh, the APA may be to blame for a lot of the evils in the pool world, if you spend any time here at AZB, but Charlie Williams hasn't coopted them yet.

Unless you're privvy to something we all should know :p

Maybe he really does control all of pool? :D

LOL! Pool is beginning to be like an alphabet soup with all the acronyms. Yes, I did mean ABP and *not* APA. :p
