True...I'm sure he will be there for some political/money audience reasons. Just as when everyone HATED Howard Stern...more people tuned in for longer that hated him just to see what he would say. Other sports have jack-offs who say stupid things all the time, but players that are supposed to be in the elite teams always are. The thinking and saying OMG Earl hasn't won any huge event in 5yrs is illogical. We all know pool is not a physical game, and we all know that Earl can show up at any time an take a BIG BITE out of someones a**, not to mention as was said above about the freight train rodney/earl duo. If we were looking at some super difficult task ahead, the teams down and we got one shot just one shot...and I can only pick one guy...It's hard to chose between Archer and Earl they are both Monsters. Yea and The MIZ was never supposed to win the US Open cuz he was washed up. I'm not saying Earl plays better than John or vice versa. I'm just saying it's none of your business or ours whom they pick so just let be what is to be and do what you can with the results. Maybe it happens and you and Earl were partners!? Ironic as hell but irregardless I would expect the two of you to act like men and just go kick some European ASS! Save the i don't like yous for when you come home. (And match up on that TAR Match...that would be the STONE COLD LOCK TIGHT MORTAL NUTS to watch...It would be a dream to see you two play one hole, straight, and 9/8 ball!)

Look I agree that I truly wish he would act more like Archer, but Schmit you should not throw stones. Just because you don't go off on TV doesn't mean your such a much better person than he. I'm sure Earl's got his own problems and maybe the guy just cant handle it. But we all know your capable John so don't come on this board be-rating another player about how he be-rated you....it is the same thing. I've met Earl and he was always cool, a little weird and standoffish but the guy was nice. So were/are you John and in the same fashion.

I prefer talent over antics that generate ratings.
I prefer to feel proud of the American Mosconi team members.

I would rather see John Schmidt play than Earl, specifically.

I like the old Earl a lot when he was winning often, but I have to agree with you about the present day Earl. I also witnessed the incident you are referring to at the US Open between Earl and John and it was bad. If Earl could get it together and act right and play like he's capable of playing then he should be on the team, but from what i've seen first hand the last couple of years I think John would be a much better choice.

Drawman623, I don't know if you also saw the match at the US Open between Earl and CJ Wiley, but it was pitiful. I was excited all day waiting for that match to get to see Earl play CJ and myself and the whole convention center were sadly disappointed. In Earl's defense he did get a few bad rolls, but he didn't play he just walked around the table looking at the floor and acting like he just wanted to leave before the match was over. I'd hate to see him act like that at the Mosconi cup.

John played awesome the year he won the US Open. I have Accu-stats videos of most of his matches and he was a machine that year. He deserves to be on the Mosconi Cup team IMO.

John: As an Europeen I hope Earl will play and not you :) (Even though Earl HAS been the most winning player at the Mosconi Cup, also the last couple of years. I think he won most matches of all Americans last year. But what good for the team is he if he ruins the other members?)

if we both are on team if he will act right and respect everyone on team ill forgive all the past.
earl is talented for sure and i will go to battle with him if need be ,and be the first to highfive him win or lose. but hes gotta act right and frankly theres other guys who play great and act right,gabe,stevie,corey,tony,max,shannon,etc etc etc.
i wanna be on team period and so do many others.

Maybe its just me but imo you cant read I just read 4 pages of post and John has not attacked anyone not once he stated the facts and said if Earl acts right instead of like an a** he would love to play with him how is that an attack?

Either way John has won many major events and deserves to be looked at as candidate. We all know the team will include Morris and Archer ask them who they want on the team and I bet Earl aint on the list.

Earl isn't a buddy or friend or someone I'd invest in. I've met the guy of course and seen him play really well but the simple fact is I dont care to even watch him and JS play. Nothing about that excites or interests me. Now if I were barking about starting/setting up this match that's one thing, but I didn't go there so don't go there with me. I still just don't think JS could win against Earl in a gambling session. We are talking about a tournament here BTW and I think Earl has the edge on the Euros, he shouldnt lose his spot when he plays that good. No Way!
 
Just why was this thread started?

Seemed like somebody just wanted to bash earl a little and fire up some drama then anything else..

John is just expressing his opinion just like you are...He didn't go on & on about Earl this or Earl that...He just said he doesn't like Earl & would really love to play on the team...If there is any doubt to who should play..one player or another..maybe it should be settled with a match of some sort..the winner is in..the loser is out...leaving no grey area...JMO

Thats just it, no one cares who anyone likes/dislikes......the pick is going to be whats best for the team to win. Never had the need to call someone out over their attitude, especially when they have preformed so well against the opponent at a particular event. We would have known exactly what he was trying to say without Earl thown in. It's just unsporting.

Does anybody know who the three are that are already on Team USA?

I would imagine, subject to check, it would be Archer, Van Boening, and Morris, but I haven't kept up with it.

There's two remaining slots to be picked by Mosconi Cup promoters, which I guess is Matchroom Sports.

So who are the three already in?
 
I cannot believe this was posted DURING the world straight pool championships. Anyone else see the irony and sad sort of humor in that I am seeing?

That's the sentiment I think you were trying to get across in your first post....but this post read much better. I hope you do make the team. Your play seems to merit a spot, and when you make the team everyone will be pulling for you (well, except for the Euro rooting locksmith service guy in this thread :p ). Tried to give you some rep for this post, but I must spread it around first....
