Hey, man, that is cool! Congratulations to you!
At the bar I used to hang out in when I was younger, there was a "regular" named "Old Man Max." He was a champion in the armed services, and whenever he walked in the door, everybody watched him when he played. He'd hold the table for hours. We only had one table. LOL!
When there were partner games, EVERYBODY wanted Max for their partner. We'd only play for a buck a man, but when Max was my partner, I liked winning 10, 11, and 12 bucks. It wasn't so much the money, but it was the win.
You're going to enjoy same reputation as Old Man Max, a champion that everybody wants to watch! Enjoy!

Here's another congratulations for you. Seems like we got quite a few ex Air Force Champions on board. I won a base championship at Homestead AFB Florida in the early 80s and one at Langley AFB around 88 or 89(would have to look). I also played in a ATC tournament in Keelser AFB, MS but didn't do very well. First time I had ever played straight pool.
I remember a former airman who talked his commander into a discharge because he thought he could become a professional pool player, he could play a little.....Louie Roberts!

Sounds like a pretty good accomplishment to me. I have known quite a few military guys that could play jam up so the competition from an entire base had to have been a least decent. Congratulations!

To answer a couple of questions......No, I haven't been to Korea yet. There haven't been any inter-base championships. The community center here even stopped holding pool tournaments for some reason! Things in the pool world around my base are pretty slow......

AF Pool Players... can play! Easy-e, you mentioned a guy named Jeremy Milber... is he in his late 20's, average to lean build, around 5'10"-6', brown hair and eyes? If this is who I think it is, watch out, mad talent! When I was stationed at Spangdahlem AFB in Germany from 99-02 I belonged to a PBC (Private Billiard Club) that was operated by the local Germans. I met Jeremy thru mutual friends and he and I played a few times at the PBC.
I was at Osan, South Korea all of 2003 and know of a few strong players from there. Elmer Posadas, currently in Japan; Barry Stahl, last I heard was at Shaw AFB; Jerry Lege (lee-jay), just left Scott AFB in February and of course myself. Not to boast, but if I had to rank these 4 players as all around players from bottom-top (8/9 ball)... Barry, Elmer, Jerry, myself. When I played at the PBC in Germany, I was rated #1 player in the Eifel Region for one season (I have a qtrly newsletter in Deutch that tells the story), was considered the #1 player at our PBC for both teams I played for.
Over the 6 yeas that I was Active Duty and my assignments to Germany, England, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Europe in general and Korea, I met some great AF guys that can play some good 8 and 9 ball.
Congrats to you on your win! Get em' again next year.
The problem with getting a DOD sponsored billiard tournaments in the facility and equipment needed, according to the DOD a few years back. I had actually inquired with a few different agencies in the Armed Forces and they all said that there's not enough interest versus cost of space and equipment needed. In general, IMO there's a lot of people that play pool, but are completly ignorant when it comes to "how" to actually play the game(s). Therefore there's no desire to progress, which results in lack of growth.

If this confuses anyone, it's a classic case of what happens when the people translating games to English are a bit unfamilliar with the language.
