Is There A Player Who You Consistently Root Against?

The only player I root against us Karl Boyes. Can't stand his cockiness or tendency to showboat. One of the best things I've seen in pool in the last few years was the tournament where he has a hanger on the 8 and is walking around the table showboating before shooting it and misses it from a few inches away.

I traveled from Houston to Orlando in December 2005 to attend the IPT Orlando event. The event was invitational to all BCA Hall of Famers so there were lots of HOFers there that don't usually go to all the big events. Machine Gun Lou, Ewa, Buddy, Sigel, Rempe, Loree Jon, Varner, and on and on. Even the Miz was there in a wheelchair.

I had several days to get all the autographs so I was in no hurry. There were poster booklets that lots of fans were getting signed. I had a stack of 3x5 cards that I got individual signatures on. Pretty cool atmosphere all around. Rempe signed a 3x5 card for me on day 1.

Mike Sigel, Buddy Hall, Jim Rempe were standing outside the doors leading into the main playing room chatting on the second day. I approached them with my cue ball and showed them the few signatures that were already on it. I asked them if they'd sign it. Sigel said, "Sure" and took the ball, signed it and said something to Buddy who took the ball and signed it. Jim Rempe walked away toward a table that had been set up for autographs and sat down. Maybe 30 feet away. Buddy said he didn't see Mike Massey on it yet. Massey just happened to be standing nearby and Buddy called out to him to come sign it. He did, no problemo.

I take the ball from Mike and walk over to Jim Rempe who is now sitting behind the autograph table and ask him to sign the HOFer cue ball. He tells me that he can sign it but it will cost 100 dollars. At first, I thought he was joking. He wasn't. I just walked away. There was nothing else going on.

Now whenever I think of Rempe, I think of that. :(

I just realized why Rempe gave you a hard time for an autograph, Todd.
Jimmy has that movie star vanity....he didn't like being third to sign....
...you should've left Buddy for third...he doesn't have that ego problem.

I know Buddy gets a little steam on here...but he's the first choice of the pros to leave your kids with....I trust a guy who kids trust.

I know Mike Sigel takes some heat on the forum but I have run into him several times and he has always been cordial. I approached him with a playbook that had a feature story of he and Jean B as players of the year (mid eighties, maybe 1987) and I already had Jean's autograph. He smiled and said I see you have Jean's and signed it immediately. No hesitation or asking for $$$.

I try to make a point never to insult the pro's but I find it hard to root for Frost. He seems to whine a lot. If good things happen to him it's all skill. If good things happen to his opponent they got lucky. It's tough to say he does it all the time as obviously I don't see all or even most of the time he plays, but what I do see it seems he's always complaining how bad he runs.

Next time, I'll remember.

I always feel better when i watch this video of Efren beating Rempe. The final rack is a doozy.

Rodney vs Dennis this past weekend. Dennis was close to winning the match and then Rodney ran out a few racks, he said "it ain't over b!tch". It was heard over the stream.

Seems like too many on this board is just overly sensitive.

Wasn't that the World cup of pool? Or world pool masters?'
It was on ESPN 3, I was watching it live.
He was playing in front of a home crowd, his friends and family, and I jumped out of my seat on that miss.
I know it's not right to cheer others misfortunes, but with Karl, it just seems so right to relish moments like that.

In fact let's relish away...

Here's the shot...

Kid,

I will never, ever listen to "Walking in a Christmas Wonderland" again after Karl's fans sang it at the Mosconi Cup last December. Must admit, I do hope he loses every match due to his attitude. Just another Earl. Only from Europe.

i consistently root against my opponent.
i pay no attention to professional players.

That's exactly how I feel.
Professional pool in America is a big who cares, and watching the Asians and
Europeans is like watching flies ****, or paint dry, whatever

My opponent. I like to win.

Its rings of some subconscious truth, but I also like to see good play and play against good players. I rather it fall more along the lines of: I don't mind my opponent playing well, I just want myself to be playing better! Though as an answer, I cant fault your thinking either. We are in a competition, and to cheer on our opponent is akin to expecting our own failure.

I couldn't find one of the more direct threads about it, but here is one from a short while after it all went down....when Rodney showed up to a CSI event anyway, despite being banned.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=353677&highlight=banned+events

Danny Harriman went off in that thread and it got deleted as a result.

I know this to be true because he was upset about a comment I made that mentioned him and some money not paid from a UPA event. Despite apologizes and several attempts at clarifying the statement! He was unable to understand and after many attempts at calming things down. Mr. Wilson just deleted the thread.

You could send Mr. Wilson a PM and he could resurrect it possibly???
