JA asked me to post this, He wants to play Darren for $50,000

I know it’s the player’s money and ultimately up to them but the better the format is for the fans (within reason), the better it is for the game and ultimately that will be better for the players. With that in mind I’ve always thought that something like this is what we’re looking fort;

First one to win 4 or 5 races to 11, 13 or 15. It’s long enough to determine a fair winner, more pressure on the players, more excitement for fans AND better betting for the sweaters.

Imagine tennis players racing to 100 pts? zzzzzzzzz. 5 setters are the epic ones!

All of these matches are great for the sport so hats off to all who play, organize and participate in them.

My guess will be that Daz will politely decline for a long race like race to 100.I guess that he learned about the perils of a long race after his match in Las Vegas with Hatch.I DON'T represent Daz and the opinions expressed here are MINE and NOT Daz`s.

Did you totally miss post # 18?

just to confirm i have read the offer..

i will speak to some people and see what they say

but for sure i will NEVER play race to 100-150 against a top player again its just not for me.I find them boring and struggle to keep my focus playing that distance as it never ending and takes away lot of pressure in the games ..

so if a match does take place then it will be a different format for sure.

but i still have other matches to consider with shane if he comes to uk..and a return match with dennis or chris under different format lot of possibilties..

but i really like jonny as a player and person but like i said few guys i need to speak to but the match could possibly happen

I have been saying it for awhile that the race to 100 is kind of boring until the last day of course if its close. I think races to 20, 5 sets over the course of 2 days would be a great way to show who is best and great for people betting and the players. They could be playing for a few thousand each a set and if it goes hill to hill then they could bet it all or be playing 3 out 5 for 20k or something. I hope someone does something like this soon on TAR. If Darren and Johnny play I will take Darren for a few shekels.

I was typing as you wrote this, glad others feel the same way but your right its ultimately up to the players and backers.

I agree with the set-format but never understood why betting on each set.

Instead of 5 sets 2k each, do first to win 3 sets for 10k.

That way one will get all the $ and it will be an exciting format for the fans.

Of course it can seem unfair if you win 25-12 and 25-17 and your opponent wins 25-24, 25-24 and 25-24 but I still like my format better.

I agree a new format with 3 or 4 races to 20 or 25 games with the winner takes all would be much more exciting and have more chances for the rail to bet.

It is a good idea Roy, but the players wouldn't like it for the exact reason you stated. Lose three sets hill/hill, and blow out the opponent 2 other sets....you could be winner games wise, and loser set wise....sheesh, sounds like our electoral system for president. lol

Bummer about you not coming to Derby this year. Hope to see you again at a future event.

I like a format of something like a race to 9 of races to 9.

The eventual winner has to win 81 games ... so not much different than a race to 100, but the main difference is it makes each set more pressure filled... which I think is better for the players and is definitely better for the audience.

Tennis has always been an exciting scoring system with the better player winning the big points. You could lose a 5 set tennis match 6-0, 6-0, 6-7, 6-7, 6-7 and win the vast majority of the points.

In heavyweight boxing, a fifteen round fight is damn ugly, with most of the rounds the two contestants are just hangin' and slobberin' over each other with punches that come in about 3/4 strength. The fans get to see more rounds, but is it worth it the way the contestants are looking? Not IMO. A pool race to 100 would be similar. A lot more for the fan to see, but me, I'd rather see a shorter race with more QUALITY than quantity.

I propose a race to 50. Start the match in the morning (say around 10:00) and whoever gets to 25 first, the action is halted for an hour or two for a lunch break. Play then continues until the set is over. They could bet however they wanted, that's their business. I think that this format would allow them to play their best games. This is good for both the players and the fans. Isn't GREAT pool what we really want to see?

I'd rather watch an Olympic 100 meter sprint anyday before watching a Boston Marathon.

Just a suggestion.

so then how about 4 individual races to 25 over 4 days and the score carries over to the next day. On the last day it would just be a race to the final 100 so if player A is ahead of player B 75-65 then it would be a race to the finish with the lesser player needing more games.

after he played hatch he played another guy a race to 100.

Hope they can do it with a shorter-set format of some kind. And in NYC, of course! Make it like the World Series, best 4 of 7. Has anybody ever said the Pirates didn't deserve it when Mazeroski hit that HR in 1960, despite the fact the champs were outscored 55-27 by the Yanks over the 7 games? It's who comes through when it counts, not who piles up the most points in garbage time.

I agree. There is one guy in a nearby town that I used to play. He would always win the cash playing multiple sets. Yet, I always won more games than he did! I'd have a few blow out sets for the win, and then lose a bunch of sets on or close to the hill. I tell you, losing that way SUCKS!

I've let guys get even or even win this way....I win 3 or 4 sets, only to let them win 'em back at 1 and 2 in the morning when I can barely keep my eyes open. Funny thing is, I've yet to be taken up on my offer to meet me for my 6 am teetime (4 hours later). I don't sleep til noon, so they know the later we play the better their chance....There are two guys that usually will play, but wouldn't when I said I had to leave at 11PM (and I told them that at 8 PM)....I'd say those two have me pegged. lol

Lots of good ideas here.....

I vote for this one: 5 set lock, $10k a set paid at the end of each set, races to 15.....races that are long enough to pay the better player, but short enough to keep our attention :D

Eric, hope this goes off man, would be a blast....instead of East Coast, they should do it at your place....sounds like you have your table playing perfect these days....

and I don't think (cuz I'm not around tennis plyrs) that anyone cries no fair I won more points? They understand the big points and that the pressure adds to the overal game.

As a former tennis player I would say this is fairly accurate. I once beat a guy 0-6 7-5 7-5 in a tournament. He was a better player than I was, but I bet you he felt the pressure...especially after losing the second set wondering how did he lose that second set after winning the first 6-0.

One thing please, Lets make sure this thread dosent turn into a shit storm.

Darren and JA are 2 class guys, in and outside of pool. So out of respect to them lets all be cool with this thread, Fair enough???

And hell yeah I hope they play, It would be a great game. Darren rises to the occasion and playing JA is a big thing for that kind of $$$. I dont know what the line would be but I bet it will be close.

One other thing I forgot to say there is no pressure on Darren to play now or the deal is off-its a open invitation when he is ready. I asked JA what he meant by that and he said "Within the next 5-6 months" So before summer is my guess.

It really surprised me when JA asked me to ask, the only reason he didnt is he hates to type. And I'm sure he wants people to know about the match so he announced it pubically, <------Thats just my guess, I didn't question him.

Thanks Again,

Eric

Well we don't have to worry about rorywayne, he lasted 6 days before the mods did the right thing with him.
