The general public enjoy sports personalities more than the games, they always have and always will. Watching the sport or game will not be the priority. That's why players like Tiger and Michael effect ratings so drastically. Making the game of pool more strategic is only part of the equation, the much needed difference will be in the production, character development, and TV Presentation.
The question is how to develop these characters and personalities like they're developed in TV, Plays and in the movies. Pool's greatest "waves" were because of Paul Newman, Jackie Gleason, Tom Cruise, Steve Mizerak, Fats, and the one thing they had in common was a personality developed for TV/Movies, not for pool.
Pool is a great game, however, it will never "lead the way," it takes more than just a game to interest the TV Universe. Wrestling, MMA, and Poker figured this out many years ago.
