Exclusivity in where you can play or who you can play with has always cockled my feathers. I hope she wins her appeal.

Probably just talking out of my a$$, but if she wants to risk hurting her standings in the WPBA rankings by missing a tournament to play for a World Championship, why should she be punished for it?

Also, if she announced it according to WPBA rules, it seems pretty dumb to sanction her.

Yes, Jasmin is very appealing.

Now about the suspension. Who suspended her and for what?

In a word. Ridiculous!!!! If Jasmine started winning male tournaments on a regular basis it would be a great thing for the game.

This goes to show that the leadership of this game doesn't have a shred of vision.

well said..i would just add she should be able to make a buck where she can

seems we are lacking a little information

Seems like we are lacking a little information here. Jasmin was aware that there was a procedure to follow to play a tournament outside the WPBA and she feels like she followed that procedure. The WPBA has ruled, pending appeal, that she didn't.

As always two sides as Jasmin acknowledged. The WPBA has to be able to assure sponsors that they will be putting on a quality event. What if the top ten players had chosen to play in the world championship?

Jasmin seems to understand both sides of the issue so I think it will come down to a procedural ruling. Did Jasmin follow procedure? Did she have to have authorization from the WPBA before playing in a conflicting event?

If Jasmin failed to follow procedure she deserves the punishment. If she did, then the punishment is unjust. Is there past precedent and what will they do in the future? As long as the rule is known to all players and applied equally no player can complain about being singled out. The only option is seeking a rules change.

Remnant of Mackey and the mens tour. Why does all the governing bodies of pool want too control every aspect of ones life. Player are treated more like puppets than human beings. Why would the WPBA schedule and event on top of any World Championship.

I think the WPBA should hold events all over the world, wonder how many gals from the states could even afford it. And if she would of been in the top 8 or 16 at the world championships...do you think the WPBA would of used that info to their benefit. Being from Australia, one would think the nuts HUGE for her, and show up money and being close to home in some cases, can and does amount to more than winning a WPBA event and paying all traveling expenses. Until the money is PGA like, it will be difficult(no,impossible) for a player to afford to live on tournament winnings only from as far away as Australia.

Interesting Jasmin is punished for playing in a World Class event and what does the WPBA do but suspend her while another member of the WPBA elbows another member according to an eyewitness and the matter is swept under the rug.

Agreed, this looks weird.

There really needs to be more disclosure in matters like this. I'm not sure how long the WPBA can keep this up without jeopardizing everything they have been working towards.

If she failed to follow procedure i bet she wont do it again. Hopefully its as simple as that and theyre not trying to run her life. that would be very shortsighted of them.

Usually, regional and world events are scheduled and finalized before the WPBA gets their schedules on the calendar. That is why there can be conflicts. We have had to rearrange our dates regionally which are secured the year before, so they didn't coincide with a WPBA event.

Now that Mike H. is on the Board, maybe he can help Jasmin. She should be able to use her talents in any tournament.

You're a little off on your geography btw. She's from Austria.

To stay on topic though I will say that the WPBA has had a tour in existence for a long time and they must be doing some things right. I don't disagree with them wanting their touring pros to make it to every event. They book sites well in advance and other tournaments can certainly conflict without it being their fault. They have procedures for this in place and if Jasmin really did follow them then they will rule in her favor.

I won't suggest that I know all the facts in the case, but I think we can safely assume that Jasmin's request for a waiver to play in the WTBC was denied by the WPBA Board. Had it been granted, there would be no controversy here at all.

Whether the waiver should have been granted is, of course, a matter for debate, and certainly, the issue is far from cut and dried.

On the one hand, the exclusive rights that are spelled out in the WPBA player contracts are vital, as they enable the WPBA to raise more money from title and venue sponsors, who understand that it makes their product more special. This, of course, increases WPBA prize funds, which have grown steadily over the years.

On the other hand, it's obvious that credible performances by Jasmin, such as her strong finish at the World 14.1 Championships, against the elite men, enhance the image of and bring positive press to women's pool and the WPBA.

Let's cut to the chase. If Jasmin played in the WTBC when the waiver was denied by the WPBA Board, she was in knowing violation of WPBA rules, and some sort of penalty was called for. Whether she announced her intention to play in the WTBC to the WPBA organization despite the lack of a waiver is a mitigating, though not an excusing, factor. Whether the penalty dished out was appropriate is another matter for debate, and as I don't know how similar matters have been dealt with in the past, I'd rather not comment.

Finally, to those who see the WPBA as lacking vision, consider how tricky this matter really is. I'm sure this was a very difficult decision for the Board, as I'm sure they understand that Jasmin is one of their headliners. Ultimately, I hope that the WPBA bends when it comes to similar waivers requested by Jasmin in the future, but I leave the matter in their capable hands. The WPBA, through superior management and policies, has produced America's only long-lasting pro pool tour, and I have confidence they will, ultimately, do the right thing.
