Jay Helfert owes an apology!

Thanks for the link with the interview with Alex. I would sure hope this thread doesn't keep Jay from posting here or even slow his posting down. Nah...he has thicker skin than that. but if he ever did stop we would all miss lot of great posts on the history of pool, the insides workings of pool, and stories of players both past and present. Good post Johhny.
I wonder why he has not weighed in on this thread anymore also.
Do you think he's still sleeping from the DCC???

Because he said he was done with it I imagine. (-:

I thought someone said the last try was a 9, which means the first 4 tries on that 60 were 51!!! Is that true?

Gabe shot in order, 14, 9, 12, 15, 10. It was his fourth try on the TV table. His previous best on this table was a 34. He had shot a 41 in the Straight Pool room earlier.

I took a break for a few days. When I found myself getting a little too wound up, I knew I needed a break. The good news it that it gave me time to work on my book, which is long overdue.

I want to publicly thank everyone here for their support. I feel a lot better after reading these last few pages.

All in all, I think the One Pocket Challenge was a welcome addition at DCC. Could it be better? Yes, definitely. Just like everything else we do in life, there is always room for improvement. I am looking forward to doing it again next year, with Greg and Mark's blessing.

It sounds to me like you had every right to get a little wound up. I don't think anyone blames you for that

By the way, did you get the WPC videos that you wanted?

you hafta remember

Jay,

You have to remember that no good deed goes unpunished. Fortunately there are enough reasonable people to drownd out the naysayers. Good luck with the event next year. With a year to practice I believe I will be able to post one of the top 500 scores!

Jay,
GREAT to see that smiling face looking back in your avator! You look good at this distance:D (Cali - Penna).
We missed you and you deserved every bit of support that the brethren showed.

Now about this book....Do tell, will it be a tell all with no tall tales? Please include some biographical info on yourself. I'm real interested in your early years and what made you gravitate towards pool. Very earliest attempts at gambling are fun stories to hear, etc.
One more suggestion. Could you give your take on the others players and can this be a real loooooong book, pretty please?

Pool Wars (and other assorted escapades) is a series of anecdotes about my life in pool. I've seen some funny ass stuff and been involved in a lot of interesting situations. Looooong? My problem is there is too much to put in one book. I have well over 45 separate stories outlined already. I have to narrow it down to the top 36 or 40 max.

I think you'll enjoy it. Many top players are in it, but I'm kind of the guest of honor in most of them. I was either in with them, playing against them or just hanging out together when the sh-t came down. It should be an entertaining read for any self adorned pool nut.

Any idea when this book will hit the shelves?

I've never written a book before. First I have to finish the manuscript. Then I can figure out the best way to publish it. I'm fortunate that I have some good people who know the ins and outs of self publishing.

My original goal was to have it done by the end of 2007, but that didn't happen. Realistically, if I work on it a little every day, I should have it done by March. I'd like to have it available by Summer.

Thanks for asking.

..........I don't want a copy that hit the shelves. I want an autographed copy. How can I order one? I went to www.poolwars.com but couldn't find a link to ordering the book.

Seriously Jay, I tried to go to www.poolwars.com & it seems someone just registered the domain. Seems like people are already trying to get on your coat tails & make $$$$ off of this.

Let Fatbouy Edit it, he's a flare for wirting........ iom :)
Dug :)

*Shortly after "The Blue Book of Cues" came out, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and do a similar book on billiard balls and their history. I took the pictures, wrote the book and and took bids from printing companies. I gave the job to the cheapest bidder (Ed's Printing) and ended up with 5,000 copies of "The Book Of Blue Balls"....... Oy-Vey !

Serious inquiries only!

Jay,
I'm willing to pay $1.00 MORE than whatever watchez is willing to pay for the FIRST one you sell. I'm serious about this, I really will ante up!
(the crowd starts to jostle restlessly as they begin fumbling for their wallets):D

Truthfully Jay, I think you are going to LOVE the response you're going to get when your book is offered! I am really looking forward to reading it AND the sequals I hope you plan on penning.

What about poolwars.org or .tv or .ca

That is the least of my concerns right now. They can't steal my book or my stories. Only I can write them. :D
