OK, in their prime, who wins playing 9 ball? My buddy thought Hunter and I thought Carter. I saw Carter play a lot in his prime. Unfortunately I never got to see Hunter.

This match is a toss up, it could go either way. I don't see a clear favorite here. I'm sure they played many times over the years, being as they are from the same era.

Hi Monte,

In their prime, I like Bobby in straight pool, but maybe Jeff in 9-ball. I believe he had the better break. Both great players.

And definitely Jeff in One Pocket. 9-Ball is the closest game between these two. Bob is not that big a favorite in Straight Pool. Jeff plays that game well also!

I remember Jeff in the finals with Efren playing 8 ball. I believe it was a big event. Don't remember the year or which tournament it was though.

That was in the 1995 PBT World 8 Ball Championship held in Las Vegas. Carter beat Archer & Reyes beat Jarvis to get to the finals. Efren won 8-3.

I always liked Bob Hunter's game. But I under estimated Jeff Carter a couple of times. He would have been my pick if they played 9B in their prime.

Also, I agree with Jay that in 14.1 it would be closer then people may think. That being said, I would still bet on Bob hunter in 14.1.

Don't forget, Bobby player Archer over seas, world 9 ball finals and should of won, sure Jay remembers where, it was a gymnasium type arena, Taiwan?? Bobby had two to three gears in rotation pool and perfect speed when he caught his second gear, as for the other games, one would think that 8 ball/14.1 and the teachings he gave Mr. 400 speak loudly to me. Bobby also had a better mental/calm game during crunch times, like Varner.

Jeff Carter lives (or did last year) here in Orlando, and is a nice, soft spoken, respectful guy. I used to sweat his matches back around 1988-1992. He was tough to bet against in any of the FL 9-ball tour matches, when there were a plethora of world champs in the field.

And from all accounts he was even tougher playing 1p.

I think he underwent shoulder surgery last year, and hasn't been playing much, but it still around sometimes, friendly, and professional.

I don't know who in there prime. that being said I will take bobby now if it's 9ft. 9ball. 1pkt-jeff. also jeff has lived in wisconsin for the last ten years and before that chicago. would bet high he hasn't lived in florida.

I may have the wrong guy, but I know this Jeff Carter was a one pocket monster at one time. Finished 2nd to Efren in a big 1p tourney back around 88.

Big dude, square glasses, walrus mustache.

With both in their prime, my pick would be Jeff Carter in this match up.

Well, that pretty much settles that when it comes to who would win today. Tom and I might not get along, but I doubt there are many people out there that have seen each of these guys play more than Tom has in the last few years at least.

How'd Jeff end up in the 2nd set against Dennis last weekend, Tom? When I left, Dennis was on 2.
