See Jimmy "Pretty Boy" Mataya do the intro to "Billiards Million Dollar Challenge Tournament" - the PCA Billiards Tour produced this in Dallas Texas where Earl Strickland ran 11 consecutive racks to win the million dollar prize. Is Jimmy the "Greatest Pool Commentator" of ALL TIME? We certainly think he's in the running for that title. Jimmy brings the right mixture of Boxing type flavor to the screen with "blow by blow" commentary that keeps the fans wanting more.

The Documentary will soon be released that tells the "Untold Story" of how Earl trained, the legal battle that followed and what happened to Pro Billiards as a result. Featuring a 2 hour interview with Earl, CJ, Jay Helfert, Max Eberle and other eye witnesses to the Event.

CJ, Jimmy is a great commentator.I really didn't realize how good he actually is and how comfortable he looks in that spot. Then again, that is no act for the cameras IMO, I have spoken and had a drink with Jimmy a few times and he is the same if you just talk to him about the weather. I like Jimmy.

A very top commentator. Great skill and a thorough understanding of the game. More than that, he knows what to say and what not to say. A+

Joe Rogan was another commentator that we saw as having "great potential".

Joe Rogan was another commentator that we saw as having "great potential" - this was before "FEAR FACTOR" when Joe was doing 'News Radio' (CBS) and 'Full Frontal Comedy' on ShowTime.

Here's a clip of Joe hosting the TV coverage at the Hollywood Casino in LA between Oliver Ortmann and David Matlock.

Jimmy is surely one of the best C.J. Be nice to see more of him!

I am a big fan of Jimmy Mattaya. The combination of Jimmy and keith McCcreedy will be a Riot with lots of one liners from Keith.

Yes, Jimmy is a greatest commentator of All Time.

Maybe one day we can get Jimmy and Joe together, that would be the "ultimate 9 Ball show".....and of course play 'Two Shot Shoot Out' ;) .....play it like Texas Holdem where you can go "all in" whenever you roll out.

That would be a great match to listen to even without the video. But let them both have a bottle of beer to loosen them up.

My ideal match-up would be to pair Jimmy with Mike Sigel. Mike is a triple smart analyst of pool and damn good doing commentary (with a good voice) and he could play the straight man to Jimmy's off the wall humor. Two straight guys or two funny guys together just doesn't work as well on TV. You need the contrast that Mike and Jimmy would provide. JMHO as always.

P.S. Rogan was great doing commentary at the Hollywood PCA event. He was paired with Tony Annigoni and they were a good team also. Tony is another very smart guy who can break the game down to it's simplest terms. Too bad he's made himself personna-non-grata in the pool world.

Jim Rempe rarely commentated, but when he did, I really liked his commentary.

"Rempe and Rogan" - Has a "Ring" to it.

Yes, I agree.....maybe "Rempe and Rogan" would have been an entertaining chemistry. :D

I heard Jimmy commentate on a Larry Liscotti match where he was playing Siegel, i think, and the guy was just naturally funny.
Thats whats needed, someone with that kind of street wit, so to speak, in there.

I did one match with Jimmy Rempe years ago. He was a "natural" on the mic, but Jimmy always had a lot of good insights when watching a match from the stands. I sat with him many times sweating pool matches and he was usually right on with his comments. The best commentary sounds just like two guys sitting in the stands watching and talking to each other.

Yes, after the finals Jimmy Mataya offers some more insight in this "post match" interview on PRIME SPORTS TV......

These interviews are important to educate the folks at home more about the game to generate a feeling of connection that generates attraction for the future.

This is done in every major sport consistently, and should be required in pocket billiards.
