Just finished watching the match and enjoyed it immensely! I must say thank you to AZBilliards for the coverage!

Anyway, JL was breaking much better than VV in my opinion and I could not believe in the game to go up nine JL shanked the 8 ball into the point. She had a severe mental lapse on that shot!

VV always came up on the 50 yard line shot after shot and was visibly shacken. The chalk slaps to the rail were numerous.

She also played safe way too often! She had numerous shots on the 1st ball after the break and ducked up when she had a clear out! One short rail bank she could have easily made and a modest cut shot that would have resulted in an easy run!

I thought both played really well, given the astronomical amount of money that they played for.

I expected a lot more misses due to the pressures of the staggering amount of $$$, but pleasantly surprised at how well they played.

I enjoyed watching the 12 games or so. It is time consuming watching pool.

Astronomical? Aren't they playing for $5,000? Or did I miss something?

JL vs VV

can anybody tell me what the result of day one was?
JL was 8 ahead at one point. VV brought it down to 2 ahead for JL before ending the session for the evening. Play starts tomorrow at 4 PM eastern.

It was a very enjoyable match to watch. Both ladies really put on a good show.

It was fun to hear Johnny Archer's voice in the background. I love his accent. He was there sweating the action, eating a hamburger, I think. LOL :grin-square:

Shawn Putnam said he moved to this area from Ohio. I didn't know that he was living in Georgia now. He makes a good commentator, along with Jerry Forsyth. They both have good voices on the broadcast, easy to listen to.

Robin, Cornerman, Sarah, Evan, Oscar and other well-known pool folk were chatting away, and I must say that it was pleasant to partake in. Everyone was having a good time.

Like last night, I have to work today and don't know if I will have time to sweat a few rounds, but I just may. I really did have fun on this livestream last night.

kudos to az for streaming this match up. i didnt watcht the whole thing from start to finish but was in and out thru most of it. pretty much saw jl dominating and was always a little surprised that vv had come back so well and jl hadnt finished her off when i logged onto the stream again. saw some great pool and enjoyed listening to ja as well. how many games did they end up playing?

all i can say is that for everyone that thought jl was the sure lock in this match up vv played pretty tough. tonights action should be interesting.

as an aside, i know they had designted rackers but i was wondering was jl's racker racking the same pattern all the time. so many of the racks i watched she was getting the one in side, the 2 near the other side pocket then the same finish on the 8 and 9?

In watching the set for a bit, personally would of enjoyed it more if they would of been on a 15 second shot clock, maybe a 30 second when they first came to table with one extension. I've seen matches 10 ahead get to a point where it was no more than who was physically strong enough to hold up in the long run and at that point skill not being the major factor but stamina. In thinking about that I was wondering about JL and hoping her back would not be an issue with the outcome. I have a daughter with similar issues in her 20's and she's strong as an ox, cept for her back.

In the middle vs. on the rail

"In the middle"? Are these 49K in sideline bets or their own money that they're putting up?
There's betting in the middle and betting on the rail. Two different things.

Betting in the middle is the bet between the combatants including their backers. Side bets between non combatants is betting on the rail or side betting. Saying "in the middle" makes it clear how much money is at stake. It's a total of 49K in the middle. Anyone know what was on the rail?

Years ago, we'd say "on the lamp." People normally would get confused if someone would say, "they were playing for 20 large" without clarifying whether that was in the middle or 20 a piece, crazy stories then escalated. The next guy could say, yeah, it was 40k (thinking that the original person meant 20k a piece). Without clarifying, the next person migh say, "yeah I heard it was 40k a piece...." So, 20k in the middle could get blown to an 80k legend very quickly.

Backers in the middle normally have a pre-determined split of the winnings with their horse. If not, serious bad taste can follow. I assume that's pretty consistant across the world.

For rail betters, normally a jelly roll to the winner would be nice, but sometimes that doesn't happen. Internet betters for example aren't normally going to Paypal the winner some jelly. Maybe they should.

Wow!!!! I thought it was over when she was about to go 9 ahead. I looked again, and VV won that particular game. I thought I saw two different players on the table after so I took off. I figured JL got to 10.

Fred <~~~ smells a grinding comeback

their money and backers is what was said in another thread, but that was 20K that they were both putting up. not sure where the additional 9k came from.

B-man,
Don't believe everything you read on the internet. As has been posted for several months, as of a couple of days before the match, EACH player had put up $40K. I have no idea where the extra dollars came from; but the initial wager was $40K per player; divided into 2 sessions of 10 ahead; each session worth $20K per player.

Second day

Spent all morning getting my snacks and meals ready for another grueling day of 9-ball. Good thing I went and got beer last night. Gotta get a better computer chair. Okay ladies, start your engines!

So did they pro-rate the 2 games of nineball last night and start a new set of 10 ball today?

Imagine how boring football would be if the teams could take all the time they needed to come up with a plan. I believe one day the pool promoters will wake up and try to make the game more watchable.
