Joe Rogan should color comentate pool!

The guy rarely post but he checks out the forum for sure and I bet atleast once a week he is browsing the forum. I would rate his playing speed at a B level which is probably is better then 95% of the people playing pool out there. His commentary in UFC is never about himself, he is knowledgeable of the fighters and MMA, I am sure he knows the players and the game of pool just as well.

+2 ... I totally agree. His style of commentating would fit in perfectly for the sport!

Pool isn't on tv because our current commentators simply don't have charisma. Joe brings EXCITEMENT to his commentary AND is knowledgeable at the same time.

As far as commentating goes, Joe is at an ELITE and INTERNATIONAL speed. Let's face it, our guys are just "good pool commentators." If any of our current pool commentators got their own TV gig, their show would be cancelled.

I'm NOT KNOCKING -- just being Simon Cowell-like and stating the sobering truth.

I agree -- I'd like to see Joe Rogan and Matt Vasgersian commentate a pool match together. Both have the ability to inject excitement into any event they commentate, as well as being knowledgeable. I remember watching UFC 56 this time of year, in 2005, and both he and Matt made that a memorable event.

I know Matt did some commentating for the IPT (not sure if Joe did), but wouldn't be cool to get these two together again?

An excellent point. Adding on to what someone els has already said about having to "pay your dues". Marv Albert, the voice of the NBA as well as other sports for the Past 20 years never played a lick. Just bit an occasional back ;)

Exactly what I said, but I do believe one day he will do an hour or two at the TAR studio. ;)

I do believe you are correct sir and I do believe it will probably happen Friday December 2nd, the first night of TAR 22. Joe's plan is do the UFC TUF Finale weigh ins at the Palms and then come to the TAR Studio for TAR 22 and a little time in the booth. Things can change but thats where we are as of now.

I was going to say something about this in this weeks podcast but this thread is as good a place as any. I'm really pumped to have Joe do some commentary on a TAR match. I know he'll do an awesome job and it will be a lot of fun having him involved.

I'm glad you let the cat out, I sure didn't want to be the one to do it by mistake. See you next week.

Joe is good peeps in my book, glad to hear he is helping Justin......and hope he shows more in the pool world....

Oh, sweet! Justin please do a thread all your on this. Hopefully this will help pump up the numbers. I know I'm buying

I doubt any pool venue can afford him, probably have to do it because he enjoys pool and forget about the money he makes doing other things.
Good idea though.

Sorry I couldn't make it but I am glad you found a last minute replacement. Make sure he is aware of how high the expectations are and that he will be held to a gold standard.

I'm looking forward to that as much as I'm looking forward to the UFC next weekend! I've done a little commentary in the past for the IPT, and before that way back in the day for CJ Wiley's organization in the 90's, and I really enjoyed it. I love pool, and I would love to do something to promote it more, but between stand up comedy, the UFC, Fear Factor relaunching, my podcast and my family I don't really have much time left.
I do have a diamond with 4 1/2" pockets that I purchased from them after they supplied tables for the IPT and I practice on it just about every day that I'm at home.

I've had some ideas and offers to do something involving pool, and although it still may happen right now sitting in the box for TAR is about as deep as I can get right now.
I'm proud to be a part of it, because I believe TAR has done more for big time pool matchups than any other organization in the modern history of the sport!

That pretty much sizes things up! Thanks Joe!!!

Matt and I actually did a UFC together a few years back. He's an excellent commentator, and he did a great job with both the UFC and the IPT.

Joes playing ability

Cleary might be off with the 80% guess, but not by much. From the way he sets up and gets down on the ball, to his stroke, you can tell he knows what he is doing. If he had enough spare time to actually focus on pool for an extended amount of time, I could bet that he would be able to hold his own against most AZers.

Joe,

Just curious, did you ever get any feedback from Earl regards to your impression of him?

I thought it was spot on..

No, I haven't talked to him. I'm going to meet him next weekend, and I hope he's not upset with me :) I really am a huge fan of his, which is why I can do the impression so well. In my mind he's one of the top 3 greatest 9 ball players of all time, and I've always loved watching him play.

I want to see Earl Strickland have a discussion about the current state of professional pool in the USA....... with Earl Strickland!

If things went right this could be the youtube clip that causes my heart to give out, but I figure it would be worth it.
