The quarterfinal of the World 14-1 Championship between 2 of the very finest 14-1 players in the world ended with John Schmidt conceed with hitting the balls with his cue, even though Feijen needed 18 balls and they both had struggled the whole match...

Would be great to get John's side of the story.

Played an amazing quarter final vs John Schmidt last night. Most drama I ever experienced in one match. I had about a 20min break after my match with Chavez and then it was time to get prepared again. John started out much better and took the lead 60-10. I clawed back a little but took an intentional 3 fouls and the score went 120-75 for Schmidt.

From there on it was pure chaos. We were super tired, the balls were sticky as hell, the room was damped. It was very hard to keep position and the level got worse with every inning. John lead 160+ to 110 at one stage. I ran a 34 but got stuck in the rack once again. Ran an 18 in the next inning but no shot again. We went to 184-182 and the pressure was tremendous. We were playing for 4 hours and couldn't see straight anymore.

I had a nice breakshot to hit the rack high. Made it but only 3 balls came out!! Took my chance and went for a cutshot under the rack. Missed it but didn't leave much...

John walked to the table, saw a bank to the side and made it in 10 sec!!! He only needed 15 more and had a shot in the side to open the stack...He hit the point!! and...You won't believe this...He took his que and hit all the balls on the table with it and conceeded!! :eek: I couldn't believe my eyes..

Anyway, had the high-run of the day with 108 and got my ass in the semi's vs Nick van den Berg :) Tomorrow at noon we tee-off

he's got some charm to him though which may explain how he was able to bamboozle OB-1 into sponsoring him

wonder how they feel about this....

I have competed in enough 64/128 player tourneys to know that playing under pressure at your highest level, having to sit and sweat the wait between matches to perform again is not easy. Complicate this by having the ring in your hands only to lose it based on your mistakes, not someone elses achievements, can be a tough bitter pill to swallow. If you have ever confidently entered a tourney full of pros and top tier players you might have some ground to base your opinions on, if not then maybe you ought to step back and cut the guy some slack, it obvious to the rest of us that you are predisposed to dislike anything he does and are looking for a reason to chirp. ---------signed (not a necesarily a JS fan)

For you to attack his sponsorship is a serious low blow and uncalled for.

I for one am glad John is thick-skinned enough to post here despite BS comments like yours.
 
I'm a big fan of John's

I was even part of Jay's "syndicate" that put John in the DCC ring game. I won't be as rude as smashmouth, but this kind of behavior does piss me off.

I am hyper-competitive myself and can lose my composure at times but I would never do something that childish. And at such a prestigious event.

I'd like to hear John's side too, but there's really no excuse for such behavior.

In match play, yes they can. Otherwise, in golf you have to turn in a scorecard for 18 holes. You aren't playing against an opponent in golf, which makes it entirely different.

I'd challenge smashmouth's claim of JS being the biggest flake in professional pool. For biggest flake, look up Earl Strickland or Fabio Petroni. I haven't seen Schmidt render himself unconscious at the hands of a table rail yet......
 
I was there on Teusday and he conceaded against Dave Daya too.John made a great shot after a Daya safe ,,made his break shot and a few more then missed and swept the balls off the table .Dave only needed about 6 but i still thought it wasnt cool,should have let him play it out.

John, this is your business alone and your livelyhood as a professional and a human being. Don't let idiots get into your head. I'm sure you have been in far worse verbal battles. On a lighter side, just tell them...

My impression was that the scores were hard to read and John probably thought his opponent only needed 4 with a wide open table, when in reality it was 18 which would have required another break.

Anyway, Johnny, we still love ya!!! :)
 
I've had the pleasure of meeting John Schmidt and I can tell you that he is one of the classiest Gentlemen in the game today.
Hang in there with the other 99% of us John. Don't let one 'smashmouth' affect your style or great attitude.
Your legacy in the sport has only just started to be written. Keep it going in the right direction.
