Just how many One Pocket players are there?

What if you play 9 ball, too? Are you still considered a one pocket player or are you a hybrid? And if you play with both hands are you ambisextrious?

Best,
Mike

I haven't run a census in a couple weeks, but my most recent numbers were 13,487 one pocket players in the continental US. I didn't make it out to HI or AK, so if someone wants to do me a solid and pick up those two regions, that would help greatly.

Including Hawaii and Alaska, will that include all 57 states?

Hello all U smart AZer's,

This I think is my first thread .

Just curious if someone in the membership has an Idea of how many One Hole players there are in the USA.

Of course I'm looking for some ballpark estimates.
I for one sure am happy that a younger crowd is taking on the challenge of learning One Pocket.

Thanks in advance 4 viewing!

But in all seriousness (yeah, right!), what do you think that number is?

In any pool hall across the USA, I think it's fair to say that less than 75% of all recreational players simply don't even know what one-pocket is.

How many "serious players" are there? What's the percentage of those that play one hole? Of all of my serious pool playing friend, those who have played leagues, tournaments (not the profession player friends) at a fairly high amateur level, about 5% that have played more than a dozen games of one hole would probably be an overestimation.

Obviously it varies from area to area.

Freddie <~~~ going to go with 61,000 + 0 / - 45,000

15,237.3 players. Exactly

I'm trying to find out how the .3 came about

Was 1 pregnant ??

There are a few around here that like to play 1 pocket.. Believe it or not, they aren't all old people.

The "elders" around these parts like to play straight pool instead.

Don't know Noel but the older you get the more you see how great a game it is.....I love it but not so many players in my immediate area.

I believe there are 21,456 one pocket players and every single one of them wants 9-7 and the breaks.

I ALWAYS play even and alternate the breaks!!!

Maniac (seldom wins at 1-pocket :embarrassed2:)

There are 2991 members of onepocket.org.

There have been over 300 entries in the DCC 1-pocket division in prior years (have no idea of the actual #).

There are at least 8-10 that like to play 1-pocket at Match Up's in Fort Collins, CO - varying speeds. I'm not sure about the rest of the state, but I know there are a few more.

I know of at least 3 people in CA that play regularly.

Does this help? :)

Too many-that's how many.
My personal opinion is that the game is brutally boring.
Almost all defense and timid offensive at best.

Theres a whole shedload of them out there but you'd never know it because they're never playing. Just in the last few weeks I've played half a dozen guys and each and every one of them has told me, "I haven't been playing any the last __ months."

So, they're out there, they just never play.

You must let me introduce you to E-9. It is far from boring and when matched up against similar speed can be addicting. Maybe we can find the chance to give it a try at the new room in Arvada:cool:.

Levity Abounds!

Hello All,

Thanks 2 all of you for bringing some funny thoughts to my thread!!!!

Glad to hear about the One Pocket.0rg membership as well.

CJ and Maniac from Texas were showing off morsels of humor that I like.

All of U guys that have taken time to make me laugh are 2 B commended!

Noel

Man I love one pocket! I'm in southern California and we don't have much of a pool community compared to some of you folks. So we only have a few decent rooms spread about the place with only two or three that house real players most of the time. I play all the time and try to make it to a few leagues and different rooms to play. It just totally baffles me that out of all the actual players I know and especially the better players that just barely a handfull can actually appreciate one pocket. I know it can be a little slow but the moves are amazing to watch, if you understand what's going on.

To answer your original question though I think we could really use the onepocket.org membership as a base for a formula. I figure there are prolly 2-3 players that are not a member for every registered member. You may want to adjust for the older folk a little but I still don't see that figure to be more than 5 to 1. So by my estimations there are between 5982 to 14955 one pocket players out there.

Could have fooled me, because I personally can't name more than 5 players that I can play one pocket with
