Keep Watching "The Color of Money"

I am not 100-percent sure how the residuals work, but I think -- and I may be wrong -- that if you are a member of the Screen Actors Guild, then you receive a small percentage of profits from the movie thereafter.

If I am not mistaken...Keith should receive monies every time a copy of TCOM is sold, as well as monies for every time it is aired on the big and little screen. That could add up to a lot of 'cha-ching' over the coming years!!

We just received a phone call tonight from the Screen Actors Guild. They have been searching for Keith McCready since 1987.

Keith is getting a check for his role as Grady Seasons in the movie, "The Color of Money," consisting of royalties since 1987.

Oh, man, it's a big number. Keith kept saying to the guy on the phone, "Are you sure this isn't a prank?" :grin-square:

I spoke to the man, got his contact information, and he seems legitimate. Keith joined the Screen Actors Guild when he got the role in the movie. They took his dues out of his payment for his role in the movie.

OMG, this will change Keith's life for the better. You have no idea. I know he's going to have to pay taxes on it, but, hey, he can take care of some health issues -- well, at least I hope that is what he is going to do with the cheese.

I'm not sure how royalties work, but I'm going to keep watching "The Color of Money."

I just had to share my joy. I'm so happy. :)

Wow, 22 years of royalties should be a sweet windfall. I have to ask why he wasn't paid along the way.

Wow! Windfalls are almost as sweet as money won! I really hope this goes to good use, either get rich or healthy! All the best to you both!
:p

that's good news. Regret Paul Newman left us and can not be honored with his royalties... I wonder if Tom Cruise got the phone call? ;)

Lightning Strikes!

JAM:

I am very happy for Keith!

It is just an amazing thing to have that cash building like a 401k for all these years.

My best to you and to Keith for the holiday season!

Regards,
John

Great news. Hope everything comes out well and what is due is received without any hassles....

Fantastic news Jennie and Kieth, I am very happy for the two of you. I'm not going to DCC this year so I can go to Super Billiard Expo for the first time, I miss seeing Kieth play and talk to the crowd so please try to make it out to Philly area this year. It would be an honor to see Kieth back in the pit with Frosty. Good Luck to both of you.--Leonard

JAM...Wow, what great news for Keith! 22 years of royalties should be a VERY nice check! I, for one, hope it allows Keith to sharpen up his game, and come back to show some of that fantastic skill he possessed in the past. I'm one that believes, that, like riding a bike, once you reach that elite level of skill, you never really "forget" how to play. LOTS of us here would love to sweat a TAR match with Keith and anybody! Get him healthy first, and then hopefully back on a pool table! Congratulations Keith! You deserve the dough!

I think not finding Keith could be a blessing in disguise...especially if he gets the added interest.

Lots less temptation these days, as compared to way back when.

Age can be a good thing. (Did I just say that?)

Great news for the both of you.

It's like a forced saving account.

I can only imagine what Keith would have done with the money if he got it every year for the last 22....without the good money manager that cares like JAM - kudos.

Great news! Kieth played that part perfectly. Not many non-actors can do that. Almost as if he had an acting background. He deserves every penny.

Watching the movie, I often wonder why Keith didn't give acting a try...I can think of several characters he'd have been perfect for.

JAM -

This thing kinda pi$$es me off a little, do they actually think that they couldnt get ahold of Keith McCready? GOOGLE? HELLO??

Oh well, I guess it all worked out in the end.

Pass along our best wishes for Keith, and add me to the list that would like to see him back with us "common pool folk"....

Ken

If you knew Keith's track record as far as permanent home addresses, having utility bills in his own name, owning a car, driver's license, and the rest, it is not difficult to understand why they had such a hard time locating him since 1987. The last address they had on him was in Los Alamitos, CA, and he hasn't lived there since 1987. :grin-square:

I had a hell of a time trying to prove Keith was Keith to the Social Security people, so that I could get his Social Security card. I needed to get the Social Security first, so that I could get Keith a legal ID card in D.C. He could have gotten a driver's license, but, at the time, due to his habits, I didn't think that was a good idea, if you know what I mean.

He did need an ID, though, for boarding planes and just being able to identify himself. These days, if you get pulled over by a policeman for anything and you don't have an ID, they have the prerogative to haul you in, especially in my neck of the woods. After 9/11, D.C. has become stricter with identification on one's person.

I don't know if he will get the added interest, but I'm happy to just get whatever he gets. I'm still pinching myself this morning about this whole thing.

My biggest fear is that I will leave this earth before Keith. My health is probably in worse condition than his. Keith is in good shape, all in all. Just go to a casino with him, and you can see how rapid he can traverse from one end of the casino to another about 100 times a day like a gazelle. I can't keep up with him after a while. My feet hurt, and he's still raring to go. :o

Anybody who knows Keith -- I mean REALLY knows Keith -- is aware that he was never afforded the amenities of a normal upbringing. When he was a kid, after a few unfortunate family happenings, Keith decided he liked his neighborhood pool room so much that he would sleep under the tables at night. At this time, his home life and loving family had disintegrated. The pool people became his family, literally. :grin-square:

Keith does have more smarts and emotional maturity than most. He can handle himself in any situation, whether it's the President of the United States, a mob boss, or a grifter.

Keith's life has been one interesting journey, I tell you, and it ain't over yet. I could write a book about him. Wait. I already am.

Great News!!!

I am truly happy it sounds like a good thing has finally happened to good people. I wish you guys the best. Hope to see Keith in some big tournaments next year.

That is absolutely terrific news Jen! Congratulations to Keith and you! Proof positive that good things happen to good people.

I hope you both are well and happy!

I saw this thread and it reminded me you were writing a book. I was going to start a new thread asking you when it will be finished. Instead I'll ask that question here. When will the book be done? Lots of us can hardly wait! You may end up with a movie if the book is half of what we think it will be.

Thats wonderful news. So much to look forward to when you get good news. We here in Calif. are happy for our Pride and Joy and of course for you to Jen. May all the best come out of this for both you. And for us Keith McCready Fans, still hoping he will return to Calif and play one more time.

What a great chapter this will be for your book on Keith.
