Kevin Varney ****Mr. Wilson

O.K. Here my take on the deal I have with Kevin right now. First and formost, I've never been a good jumper. Medeocre at best by a long
shot. I cant jump worth a crap. Never could, never will. I just never
practiced enough. I finally bought a Varney blem cue from Kevin. All
of the sudden, I was jumping that cue ball like a frog. It seemed so
effortless. I personally thought that I found the jump stroke, so I
wanted an ebony J/B to match my player. I sold the Varney and
bought an Andy Gilbert. Nothing, Nada. I couldnt get the ball 1/2"
off the felt. I then tried my buddy's Mottey J/B with a phenolic tip.
Again, nothing, nada. I then saw an aquaintence with a Jacoby
jumper. Tried again, again, 1/2" off the felt at best. So, now this
is just me, I cant get a damn cue, any cue, to jump as easily and
effectively as that Varney did. So I ordered another one. That was
this January. Now here my problem: I had no Idea that Kevin was,
this far behind. He in January, gave me a 90 day lead time. This
was at the same time when some people were at a years wait with
the same 90 day lead time. I did read that Kevin wrote that he had
a list of 200 orders. Did they all come after my order? There is no
doubt in my mind the Kevin had no intention of hitting that 90 day
deadliine when he took my money. Now, I only put up half. He did
not ask for payment in full. I wish he would just let me know when
I could have my cue. I will wait because I truly believe that his
cues work best for me. I dont get enough hours on the table to
practice jumping. I know that his cues work for me and thats
good enough to keep me on his list. I just need an update, thats
all.

I find it hard to believe that you can ONLY jump with a Varney. The way I see it, any jump cue with a short, phenolic ferrule and a phenolic tip should be able to get the ball up. If it doesn't, something weird is going on.

But if you like Kevin's cues, then hey! Good for you! You found the one that works and you like it. I would make repeated efforts to contact him. Pms, emails, phone calls, anything and everything you can. If you hear nothing back, then do the only thing you can. Come on to AZ and tell your tale. Word of mouth is a VERY powerful advertising tactic. And it can work AGAINST someone just as easily as it can work for them ...if not easier.

Then start practicing with others. (Start with a J&J. They're cheap and pretty good.)

Yeah, thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that I bought a J&J
on ebay and it came with a hard leather tip. I then had a phenolic
tip put on it. I couldnt do a damn thing with either tip. I dont know
if its mental or what? It is driving me nuts! To this day, as God is
my witness, I have never jumped anywhere near as good as with
the Varney that I used to own. I so regret selling that cue and If
Larry (Iowa Player) can get a hold of the dude that bought it from
him, please have him PM me. I'd like a crack at getting that cue
back.

I can do anything with my kangaroo jump cue that I can do with my Varney with the exception of one thing, to me I think the added length of the cue helps me hit more object balls.

I've had a similar experience, although not with a Varney.

I've always had trouble jumping...except with, surprisingly enough, my friend's J&J J/B. I could always jump effortlessly with it, while any other cue I tried I would either fail completely or only get off the occasional jump shot. I can't explain why such a disparity exists at all.

I would have bought one in a second, except I don't like at all the way I break with it. And since jumping is about 0.0001% of my game, other things take precedence.

Thank God I'm not the only one.:) Thanks for the post.
I feel a bit better now.

I know for me only a full refund will make me happy. I no longer want his cue. I've gotten replacements I'm more than happy with.

As far as rep goes, I think it's taken a pretty big hit. But if he shows up tomorrow offering refunds to those who want it, and realistic delivery dates to those still wanting a cue, comes through on his promises this time, and makes a real effort to do better in the customer service front (including no longer requesting 100% upfront) I think he can get his AZB business back.

Heck, if he does that and his minions resume their incessant, loud Varney worship, within a year he could probably be back to demigod status.

I know for me only a full refund will make me happy. I no longer want his cue. I've gotten replacements I'm more than happy with.

I certainly hope things work out, for all concerned!! Lets hope he does the right thing!!!!!

Yeah, lets hope he does do the right thing. He has had plenty of chances to do it so far and hasn't. Only time will tell. Good luck all!

This Kevin fella must have practiced some type of VOODOO on you guys to have you believe that a "cue assembler" could take parts that any other cue maker could also buy and put together and then have you believe that he is producing the best cues in the business. Now that he is in his non-communitive, non-refund, mode I wonder how his business is going to survive.

I can build cue that is twice as good as the "Varney" for less than $100.00. That would also include a 1/1 case, shipping, and insurance. Just to show you what a nice guy I am I'll also give you a coupon for 2 gallons of gas, no extra charge alsong with 4 hours of table time at a hall of your choice.

Look Dawgie, I hear ya, I really do, but may a lightning bolt strike me down
if its not the honest to God truth. Right now, as things are, I cannot jump
with anything else. With the help of family and friends along with the Big
Guy in the sky, Maybe I can beat this terrible affliction..........

So as you can see, I find it very funny because everyone was so quick to attack me for making the honest and truthful statements that I had. Now some of those Varney loyalists appear to be jumping ship.

Thing is Brian, this new KV incident doesn't vindicate anyone's previously held opinion re his cues.

Varney made crappy cues when he delivered on time, and he made crappy cues when his promises were broken. Bottom line is, it was always a joke for anyone to compare KV to Gilbert, or Mottey (as he himself did, remember?). Though he's fallen off the cliff with orders in hand, the status of his crappy cues in the minds of his deluded (ex)supporters should not be diminished.
