I don't know if this will turn out to be a good idea or not but I think it will be interesting none the less.
Please post any and everything you can think of about Jim Rempe. I'm talking about if you married his sister, if you know his mom and dads name, if you know his dogs name, if you sold him a vaccuum cleaner, and of course every pool related bit of trivia you can think of.{ So it can stay pool related lol}

I heard he stayed at Motel 6. Don't quote me as it didn't come from a reliable source.

When Ralph Souquet first came to America he stayed at Jim Rempes house and took some lessons from him. I heard Jim say that while he was doing commentary on one of Ralphs matches.

I watched a tape once of him running 150 balls so let me just say this he is a great player. But he was up and down on every shot very fidgety and after a while i was yelling at the tv screen "Just shoot the ball!" I forget how long it took but over an hour and not very enjoyable to watch.

Who gave him the name King James??

Bob Mucchi???

I dont know Rempe, but I do know alot of people who know him well and he well liked by everyone I have ever spoke to. As a matter of fact he is one of the few champions I havent heard any bad stuff about. So perhaps he should be Saint James,LOLOL.

At the BCA HOF induction this year for JA and Allison, Saint James was sitting up with the other HOF members and he made a real nice complement to Earl that was kinda funny too. Earl didnt like it much, Saint James ran out of the room to sort things out with Earl and alls well that ends well.

I expect that someday I will meet him.

Saint James<------I like that better, I hope he dosent read this and get pissed. Incase you do read this Mr. Rempe here is my number 702-241-8000 you can call me for a formal appology.

i'm in a silly mood tonight for some reason!!!!

best

Fatboy:smile:

I had the pleasure of playing against King James in my first Joss event in the late 90's. He was wearing this silly Disney shirt that has always stuck in my mind because he completely acted the part jumping around firing in balls. I really shouldn't say I played him because most of my time was spent in my chair watching a display of some of the best banking I have ever seen. Since that day he has been my favorite player because of the way he carried himself and some of the instruction he gave me which I have carried with me since.

I've heard commentators on more than one accu-stats tape mention how Rempe was once playing in the final of a major 14.1 event against either Sigel or Mizerak. Rempe was down something like 185-10 in a 200 point match and ended up coming back to win the match!

Back in the early seventies I made Jimmy a red leather cue case to match
the interior of his new Coupe DeVille.
He won what I think is his first real tournament that year at Weenie Beanies and
the case is in the photo of him with the trophy on the cover of Billiard News.
p.s. I took the photo.

ok so my buddy gets a call from tom g who use to run the glass city open and asks my friend to go and pick up jim from the detroit airport. so i went with him and getting on the on ramp trying to get into traffic my buddy gets pulled over for speeding lol and the cop checks everyones id's and asks jim what he is doing in town and he says im here for pool tourney in toledo. the cop says so what are u some kind of pool shark and jim says yeah i guess so lol we also picked up nick varner and johnny archer those where so funny telling storys and such varner says to johnny what touches the door first ur dick or ur nose lol it was a great ride

King James was the Ambassador for American pool back in the 70's and 80's. He traveled the world long before it was the popular thing to do. He won titles all over the globe, including Australia, Japan and even the English Eight Ball crown more than once. Jimmy was a great all around player, excelling at all games.

One tourney I particularly remember was the Last Call for Nine Ball at Resorts International in Atlantic City in 1986. There were 357 players who paid only a $100 entry fee with $40,000 added! Jack Johnston was the promoter. First prize was 35K and second only 13.5K. Jimmy had to play Efren in the finals and a deal was proposed, $28,500 for first and $20,000 for second. BIG money back then! Jimmy's response was that every time he makes a deal he loses. They played for the 35K and Jimmy won handily! I was the TD along with Pat Fleming.

varner says to johnny what touches the door first ur dick or ur nose lol

That's funny, especially since it was Nick Varner who said that...He's got a pretty sizable nose himself. :)

I've never met King James, but I've learned a lot from his commentary on Accu-Stats...He's probably one of the most technically correct players I've ever had the pleasure of watching, especially regarding 14:1.

I've heard commentators on more than one accu-stats tape mention how Rempe was once playing in the final of a major 14.1 event against either Sigel or Mizerak. Rempe was down something like 185-10 in a 200 point match and ended up coming back to win the match!

It was Sigel. I think the year was 1989 or 90 .

don't forget about his tournament wins in a row record. Which I believe is 23....thats freaking amazing!

I saw Jim at the Super Billiards Expo and AZBilliards has enlisted him as a new columnist. The idea is that you guys can all ask him anything you want about pool. He will pick the best questions and answer a few of them every month. So send them in. You can post them here or send them to me at: Jerry@azbilliards.com.

Jim also is giving private lessons at his home. His knowledge, as already attested to in earlier posts, is fantastic so I would imagine the lessons are valuable. He lives on a lake and loves to fish so there may be some fishing involved as well. Jim is a great guy, very easy to be around, and with a great sense of humor. If you want to get in touch with him for lessons, write me. I do not have permission yet to put out his phone number. Oh, he lives in Pennsylvania outside of Scranton.
