What is wrong with fan voting?

This wasnt a tourney ...
This wasnt a gambling match...
This want a grudge match....
It was just an exhibition... nothing more nothing less...

The kid came here are campaigned a little bit and won a seat at the table with ER.. good job to him.

I actually dont think anybody would have really gave it a second look if twiddle dumb and twiddle dumber didnt start running their mouths the way that they did...

Nothing wrong with fan voting in and of itself but rather the way it was done.

Okay guys, I just got back! The only AZ member I met was FrankInCali. Traffic was so bad from San Diego to LA, and it took me more than 3 hours instead of the usual 2 to get there. I thought I was late and started to run when I accidentally dropped my camera! I had a back-up though, a DVDcamcorder, but learning to upload what I've shot is a whole different matter. Rodney Morris, Corey Deuel, John Schmidt and Austin Murphy greeted all of you guys here on AZ!

I was right behind the bevy of beauties who were all requesting for a back massage! Talk about pool in heaven! :D I guess I was just in the right place at the right time! :p

Sitting on my on my left is Tang Hoa, while on my immediate right was Mr. 400 himself, John Schmidt who was giving Joe Rogan a free lesson on pool 101.

Austin Murphy is now a young man, a shade below 6 feet, and a little awkward on his stance. He was jittery and probably awed by Efren's presence and was never in the game. He was so frustrated with his play and I swear I saw a tear dropped when he missed the 8. He relaxed a bit when Efren but all locked up the match at 11 games to 2. He showed glimpse of his shooting prowess when he racked 2 or 3(?) games in a row but it was too little too late.

Efren played with a borrowed cue from Alex and only had 1 B@R, and it came on the 21st and final game! He pocketed a ball once earlier but scratched, and this is what I think efren was trying to do, he was breaking at half speed and there's usually a cluster or 2 that Austin couldn't solved.

to be continued...

I missed the big show. I fell asleep after American Idol! :(

However, reading this thread, I got the whole rundown. So Kevin Trudeau was commentating with Mike Sigel? And they also brought in Rebecca?

Rebecca was at all of the IPT tournaments I went to. She used to be a commentator on "The Best Damn Sports Show," I think. I got several pictures of her, and below is one of them.

I can remember one night, she and I were having a brief chat, and she told me her feet were killing her because of her 5-inch heels. Oh, the sacrifices women make to be beautiful! I'll stick with my Birkenstocks.

All in all, she was very nice to all in attendance, and of course, the men enjoyed the scenery when Rebecca was in the house! :D

The IPT doesn't care who gets picked to play. The whole idea of voting as many times as you want is to boost the traffic count on the IPT site to get more ads/charge more for ads. I can't say that KT is the only one that does it though. Johnnyt

PS. I have to thank the IPT for the free streaming...it was great. Next time let them vote just once and hide Mike.

Kieth looks miserable in that picture. It's written all over him, "where's Jen, let me outta here".

You women unerestimate all of us.

I will be more than happy to sponsor Austin in an winner take all two man tournament against anyone who has posted in this thread to this point. I will put up $1000 for Austin's entry fee to this event. It shall be played exactly tot he same rules he is playing in now. Would anyone who has posted previously like to accept this challenge?

Where would we have to play.

Look how miserable Keith looks getting his picture taken with Mrs. Laurence. They look a little cozy, don't they?!

Actually, the two of them are very good friends. Each time we run into her, she and Keith enjoy chatting it up! :D

Keith must like Pisces women because she and I both share the same birthday! :p

I think that Keith is just standing there wishing Ewa was a little taller or he was a little shorter. Then that wouldn't be her shoulder he was laying his head on! :D :D :D

15-6 Efren won.

I was thinking it would be 15-5. The biggest issue was the tight pockets, the kid was just not used to them, and played a bit too much to the outside edges. The run he had to get to 6 was pretty good, and he was sinking balls on the break with some open tables. If the pockets were a bit bigger he would have gotten to 10, if not won the whole thing.

Efren won through sheer experience and knowledge of finesse play. By the time he can drive, Austin should be a top 30 finisher in a major tournament.

Was interesting to watch aside from having to listen to the announcers.

Ouch! I think I get your drift, but a top thirty finish in a major pro pool tournament might not get him a handshake.

If they play at Austin's home court at Hard Times in Sacramento, there are some of us locals who would help jack up the entry fee for those interested.

People got to see a living legend play a future champion, and as far Austin's game goes, if you are not a pro or high level road player, you might not like it. All he was doing was playing the best player in the world for the past twenty years. Let him play anybody near his speed and you will see a much improved game. John Henderson

I agree with this completely JRHendy. People who have been around pool enough know that great players can make solid players look very weak. To the folks who think Austin can't make a ball, you are not viewing this objectively. Austin plays extremely well and while he didnt do well last night, remember that there are so many accustats of great players just dogging their brains out, shooting .600 type matches out there.

For example, from the 2001 US Open: Cory Deuel (.921) def. Mika Immonen (.571) 11-0 (F). Everyone knows Mika is solid pro player and yet here is shooting even below shortstop speed. What you saw last night was no indication of Austin's true speed. This isn't speculation, its a fact.

I want to see a good match too :-) I knew the odds were stacked against Austin and it's tough to watch. But this is a truly GOOD person and someone with a bright future. He will have many more great matches and tournaments in front of him.

:-( Bummed - Wish Austin would/could show more of his real speed.
It should be clear to most that Austin isn't showing his true speed here. I've never seen Austin play but I know the score doesn't reflect his ability. I give the kid credit for promoting himself (asking for people to vote for him) I did. I think this is a good learning experience for him. Everyone give the kid a break he's friggin 14. Good luck Austin I know we'll be hearing a lot more about you in the future and MJro hurry back to the states so you could play this kid and give us a chance to critique you. Philw

I was there and here are a couple of observations:

Austin was so nervous he couldn't see straight. The kid can play decent and will be a force to be reckoned with very soon. My prediction of the day.

The gal who does the interviews is SOOOOOOOOOO fake it isn't even funny.

It was a fun match to watch with alot of good pool fans.

The guy wearing the number 28 jersey, who's phone went off during the Schmidt/Ortman match needs to get a life. He sat and and stared at the girls almost all night. And I don't mean, glance and look away. He stared for minutes at a time, all the time. VERY CREEPY DUDE.

Over all, a little different, but fun night!!

Russ.....

I have stated before, I have seen Austin many times & is he always a respectful, polite young man. His father stands off to the side, observing but you can see that he has done well in raising his son.

I haven't seen Austin play in a year but would put his speed below the level of some of the other top young guns (21 yr olds and below).

Would that be what they mean by "facing the issues head on?"

Exactly Johnny. That's what I don't like about the voting scheme. Its PURPOSE is to create clicks on the site not to choose the players by "popular vote."

it's not a loss of game in BCA either unless you scratch and make the eight

In BCA you have to scratch AND make the eight for it to be a loss of game.
