Lost my head, I'm sorry

Anyone trying to promote pool in the media and garner it more exposure is alright in my book. It seems the sponsors of the product have acknowledged their mistakes and hopefully it's just growing pains to a better product.

For those that got stiffed, well, you always have the opportunity to just walk away from it. Sure, there is the "principle" of the matter that everyone feels entitled to, but sometimes you just cut your losses and walk away from the $10 of crappy tacos you bought instead of complaining to the cook.

I'm sure I wouldn't have been too happy either, but I think there should always be some type of disclaimer for anything streamed over the Internet, that the quality may not meet expectations. If they do it enough times, then no one will buy the product.

While it seems a bad feed has been confirmed, how are those affected able to prove physically to Mike they actually had a bad stream? Or was it a bunch of people in the chat room trying to take advantage of a few that were having a genuine problem with the feed? Not accusing, just wondering.

To the gentlemen who said how much 25 bucks is a lot of money to him I feel for you and hope things get better financially BUT if money is that tight you shouldn't be spending it on a web cast. I feel the same for you as someone who's struggling to make ends meet but is still buying lottery tickets lol

And this, too, makes a great deal of sense.

You can't compare watching a movie to a ppv streaming event. Movies have been being showed at theaters for hell if I know how long lol a long time! The got it down to a science lol Streaming is so new that honestly I would expect glitches. Just as I'm not upset when watching Netflix on my iPad and the streaming has hiccups. Its annoying but it's a relatively new technology so shits gonna happen.

To the gentlemen who said how much 25 bucks is a lot of money to him I feel for you and hope things get better financially BUT if money is that tight you shouldn't be spending it on a web cast. To spend $25 and stay at home for the weekend and watch a great pool match with the wife seemed like a good deal at the time. And pretty cheap compared to going out to dinner and then to play some pool. As far as the money goes I'm not broke but I don't have it to throw away either. And no i don't play the lottery either.

Having gotten to know mark somewhat, i believe his intentions are good. He has proven that he is human like the rest of us, and manned up as well. I can only imagine putting on these events, dealing with locations/streaming/players "needs"/etc, thinking you have it all covered when something out of your control happens. Sounds like a ***** to me, but he manages to pull it off. In the end, he tries to take care of us screen watchers, and provides some great shows as well. Not taking sides-just sharing a point of view. I just hope that events like these continue, pool needs it badly.

oh, the ol' bad blood event, I purchase ppv streams all the time, from accu-stats, tar show, justin, and I never asked for a refund, sometimes there were problems, thats true, but someone who is responsible will soon be apologizing and handling the problem from these companies, and I will be thankful, and not asking for a refund ever from accu-stats or TAR.

but here's my problem with tvmike on the badblood event, he was rude, repetitive on his excuse, and doesn't acknowledge the problem, he kept going on and on about "it wasn't me, I don't have problems, its them" Whoever them were, I think he was pointing at ustream, for that matter even if it may or may not be them who have problems, he should know that a customer clicked (PAY HERE) on his website tvmike.com and ergo, if I want to show someone my teeth, it's him, cause the pay here bottom was in his website, so for me, its him thats the problem, in my eyes.

if you think ustream will fail you? find a better place to produce a better quality for the customers.

accu-stats or tar will never do that to their customers, if they had a problem, they will stand up, and speak to us, then apologise, and move on, you will never see pat flemming saying (Oh hey, sorry for the crash, its not me, its the firefox on my computer crashed, so i'm not responsible, go speak to Firefox company) just an example, to an extend its the same senario.

anyways, as I said, I would never ask for a refund ever, except for this one time in bad blood, because it got me so frustrated and angry at the attitude that tvmike brought, and for that I got my refund, I didn't ask tvmike, or bfdlad, I went to paypal and they took care of my problem, and the $25 had nothing to do with it, I can careless about the 25 bucks.

p.s. I will never again buy a ppv from tvmike, hopefully he doesn't get any major events.

this is nuts...

Why do we have these people *****ing to this level about something months later about something such as $25? We had claims come in and they were refunded now I will tell you directly that money came out of the promoter/investors money to begin with. Nobody even saw the claims except ustream themselves, we had no way of knowing who was disputing the payment for the event. If I remember it was about 25 people... which was a lot for how many tickets sold at least we can see how many were sold.

So not only did everyone lose money on the event from the get go but the banker even LOST more money because people want to do something on principal.

The main theme here is people are working hard to do the best they can to provide you entertainment that knowing well in the back of their mind they are going to lose money. I know I did just on the drive out there.

All I gotta say is I did the best I can and I am sure everyone involved will say they did the best they could as well.

I think what it comes down to is there is no possible way to satisfy everyone all the time. There are always going to be bad seeds in the bunch and we as people who must interact with them must just swallow it all. Some of the characters in this thread have been the bad seeds really and truthfully it is attitudes like this as someone else said that keeps pool down.

I'm terrible sorry that any of you would consciously try to hurt me or mark or anyone else because you felt something wasn't handled right. If I remember one of the nastiest things I've ever heard someone say actually said "I wouldn't piss in TvMikes mouth if he was on fire" was in that thread.

Duker, your the kind of person who will complain about anything just to be bitter thats my opinion. You might be a good friend or husband to someone but you are really good at trying to hurt peoples feelings or bluntly as I will say being an asshole.

Asbani the fact that you wish I never get a streaming job again I will say that please do not come into my channel and watch my broadcasts FREE or otherwise. If you want to hurt me that bad the least I can do is deprive you of some of the FREE entertainment that I provide to the pool community on a regular basis.

It's reasons like this that I am pursuing other potential streaming ventures far outside of pool. I'll be damned if one of the best in the country can't be appreciated for the work let alone put food in my mouth.

It's not personal.

Mark, I think you did what you could to make it right.

For me the problem was the way MIKE talked to me and others like we didn't know what was going on.

I have helped stream things several times and know it's not as easy as it looks.
All I was trying to do was help the man and he talked to me like a DOG.
I will be glad to purchase a future match but on my you, but if MIKE has anything to do with it count me out.

The problem is his action make you look bad for hiring him to do it.

Mark, good luck with everything, hope to meet you in person in the future.

The people I feel for the most, is the very nice people that bankrolled the event.... lets just say they had to keep digging in their pockets every 5 mins.

I'm disappointed in Mark Cantril myself. I spoke to him a few days before the event, asking about taking some short video clips of the whole thing. He brought up a idea about how he always wanted a behind the scenes video done. Nice guy that I am, I said I would take a shot at doing it.

I found out that I would have to take off 12 hours of work to do it, and I had no vacation time left, so I worked a couple of 14 hour days to make up for the time I had to take off. He wanted me to get footage each day and then rush home and edit it and upload it.

I knew this was going to be a pretty time consuming project for me. Driving 50 miles to Lincoln, hanging around and shooting video, then driving 50 miles back home, then spend hours going thru the video and editing out clips I could use, spending more hours putting the video together, then even more time uploading it to the vimeo site.

So I knew it was going to be a lot of work for me, 20+ hours of editing video over a couple of days. Then 6 hours of driving back and forth. And about 30 hours of finding stuff to film.

I said I would do all of this for free basically, but I didn't want it to cost me money to do it. I knew he probably didn't have a lot of money to fork over at the last minute for this project, so I just wanted some gas money to cover the cost of me driving back and forth to Lincoln. Mark offered me 50.00 for gas money. I drove 300 miles so that wasn't even going to cover it, but I agreed. Unfortunately I'm one seriously broke guy, having been hit with 10's of thousands of dollars in medical bills from my wife getting breast cancer recently.

Well, I'm driving on fumes to get there on Thursday so I ask Mark if he has any of the 50.00 for gas he promised, for me, since I had no money for gas. I get the look of someone that really doesn't want to give me anything and he says "Do you really need that now", and he pulls out a 10.00 bill and gives it to me. Wow.. that made me feel real good. I should have taken that as a sign right there.

So over the next few days, I get only 3 or 4 hours of sleep, the rest of the time is spent contributing to promoting his event by producing these videos. I work my a$$ off getting these videos edited and uploaded Thursday and Friday. Sat comes and I pull him aside and ask him if he has the other 40.00. He blows me off and says he'll get back to me in a bit. A few hours later, and several conversations with him, he still hadn't make any effort to pay me, I asked for it again and he blew me off again, saying in a few minutes. Another couple of hours later and several times I stood next to him, he has said nothing about it.

Well, I'm not stupid, it was clear he didn't want to pay me and I wasn't going to beg for it. So I packed up my equipment and left. I was pissed off, since I didn't even have money to eat that day, I had thrown my last 20 in the tank.

So in the end, I worked 14 hour days before the event, so I could take the time off, I spent 6 hours and about 60.00 in gas driving back and forth to Lincoln, I spent 15 hours of staring at a computer editing the videos, spent about 30 hours looking for things to film, and got a total of about 8 hours of sleep over 3 days.

For $10.

I don't want any money from Mark, since I had mentioned what had happened in a unrelated thread a few weeks afterwards and one of our most esteemed lady posters sent me the 40.00 because she liked all the work I had done for pool in the past and felt I got screwed.

I also saw several things happen over those days, that I was uneasy with, as I am a pool fan like all the rest of you. I'll leave it at that though.

I had also tried to help by giving some feedback to Mark, since I am in touch with these forums daily and I was relaying back the posts that I was seeing on the forums about people not liking the changes made about the points to determine who won, and about all the people complaining about the PPV. I got told at one point that I was a "negative guy". I'm simply letting him know the overall tone of some threads about his event while it's in progress, so he could address it if he wished to. For that, I was being "negative".

Lastly, from Mike's post above where he says that the bankers got screwed... he says this....
TV Mike said:
The main theme here is people are working hard to do the best they can to provide you entertainment that knowing well in the back of their mind they are going to lose money. I know I did just on the drive out there.
If I remember right, the bankers had to pay for a rental vehicle for him to drive out there, because at the last minute he told them he didn't think his car would make it. Well, what's the banker supposed to do if the guy streaming tells him he can't make it there, a day before the event? Dig into his pockets again and fork over some more cash for things that weren't part of the deal.

My advice to TV Mike would be that... if you get involved in a event, honor what you promised. Make sure you have the equipment you say you have, make sure you can get to the event, and most of all... do not test a new service of streaming at a major event. All of these technical problems shouldn't have happened. If you use a brand new feature of Ustream, test it out ahead of time with a few test PPV's. Get a direct number of a top tier technician for Ustream, that's going to be working that night so at the first sign of a issue, you can talk to someone who can help that has the knowledge and ability to fix it.

And probably most importantly, take some classes in Customer Service skills. Whether you stream pool or any other thing, having a business takes customer service skills and I think you should see by the comments of your customers that you didn't fare to well in that department.

Like I say.... the people I feel for the most, are the nice people that made this happen in the first place... Airart1. I'm sure they took a big hit, because of a lot of things being dumped in their lap at the last second, that wasn't part of the deal. What do you do, when you went to all this work to make this event happen in Lincoln, and at the last second everyone's throwing all of these problems at you and saying "Well it's going to cost this much to fix this problem" . You really don't have a choice at that point. You have to pay or scrub the whole thing.

So what did I learn from all this? I learned that you have to be careful who you trust. A man's word should be good, and I donated a lot of my time to try and help him out and promote his event in order to put dollars in his pocket and I got stiffed for 40.00. 40 buck ain't crap when other people are having to cough up thousands, but to me, 40 bucks is a lot when you're broke. I was doing a "Behind the Scenes" for the fans, but I also saw some stuff "behind the scenes" of what Joe Customer doesn't know, that they should have the right to know.

I'm glad that Mark goes to the effort of trying to put on these type of events. I'm glad that TV Mike wants to do streaming. But when nice people try to do nice things to help you..... don't hose them. I learned my lesson, but I will still continue to do be generous with my time with other people in the pool industry.

Hopefully everyone will learn something from this and take steps to make sure they correct issues in the future, so that everyone involved in the event is satisfied in the way it went down, and the customers are happy by getting the product they paid for.

Sorry to read this thread and what has transpired to cause it. I will only say this from my personal experience. "Let your conscience be your guide!" I believe we all know at every moment what the right thing to do is. Whether we do it or not is up to us and our conscience. My personal experience is that when I do the right thing I feel good, and when I do the wrong thing I feel bad. It's about that simple. And believe me I've done both. Many times!

I may have some more to say about one of the streamers mentioned on here at a later date. I am still waiting for DVD's promised to me months ago. What should have been free (our original agreement) has already cost me several hundred dollars. And I'm not done paying yet because I gave my word. Under duress I might add. I continue to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope for the best. But after weeks of getting the run around I'm not optimistic.

Cali, Sounds like your end of the stick was a lot shorter then mine I my wish above all this is your wife is doing well. Both my wife and mother have had to battle breast cancer. Fortunately both caught it early enough. I wish both you and your wife the best. Richard Edwards

Jay, Don't you know by now your suppose to forget about the money and bend over. I get a kick out of these guys that come on here and say its just $25 you should just eat it. But they would be the first ones to ***** if their local hall raised it's table time.

Jay, Please can you just clarify for the forums that thedeal youaretalking about has NOTHING to do with me or my event? I am getting beat up a little here and don't want it to look like another one. thanks.

I'm going to man up and post an apology now for my previous thoughts on this. From the posts by Cali Red & Jay Helfert I can see this is obviously not the case of anyone just looking to get something for free. I have seen it happen several times to people streaming and $25 to me is no big deal but I can definatly see those involveds points quite clear. So to anyone I may have sounded out of line with previously you have my apology and I hope everything gets worked out.

Ok,well I was going to just leave this thread alone but I obviously need to make sure that some of what you said is explained a little better.

Calired, when you contacted me you asked if you could come and take some footage of the match for your website. I told you that we were not going to be allowing video to be taken at the event but that you should talk to tvmike about it as he has the dvd rights and its really up to him. You declined to ask him and so since I had seen you on hereI came up with a idea that would work for both of us. I said if you want to do some behind the scenes/promo clips for us that will enable me to justify you being in the room with the video and be able to tell TVMike that you were working with us. Later you came to me asking for gas money. I was a little taken aback as you wanted to be there anyway and I thought we were just helping each other and now it was turning into another expense. I agreed to pay you the money though so I am not disagreeing with you there.

Now, as far as the actual giving you the money. You came tome and asked for some of it and for whatever reason I gave you $10. Not sure why it wasn't $20 I gave you some of it as you asked. The next time you came to me wewereinthemiddleoftheevent and hada lot ofthings going on andso giving you the rest ofthe money wasn't at the top of my list since you were there at the event and felt sure that I would be seeing you before you left and that is when youwouldbeneeding it. You never said to me "Hey I'm leaveing can you give me that $$?". As you said you just left. Again I had a lot going on in the middle of the event.

So I guess coming on here and saying these things when a phone call would have maybe been better I'm not sure about. At the end oftheday you wanted to come and get footage for your website you got the footage for your website, you also didn't have to pay the $25 to get in and I gave you $10.00 for gas money. If you would like to call me as I know you have my number we can figure out how to get you the $40.

I appreciate your efforts and putting up the promo clips for us. I wish you had called me on this.
