Hey guys, need to knoe if ya'll wet the eraser like the instruction say or do you use it dry on the shaft?

FYI, Archer always used the powder and some one about a year ago told him to try rubbing alchohol and he has used nothing since.

I've got a follow-up question.

Say I use the ME with denatured. Is any sanding at all required to smooth out the shaft or will just hand burnishing with a piece of leather or paper bag do the trick?

Also, will ME harm an ivory ferrule?

I hit it with a few strokes with 1500 grit. Then burnish with leather.

Auto Zone or any auto parts store will have wet/dry sandpaper in fine grits. Use it dry and sparingly.

See, now that's the problem. The idea of taking ANY sandpaper to my shaft is the big deal killer. I was hoping you guys would say no sanding required. Oh well.

Some people like the 00000 steel wool. (that's 5 zeroes, the more zeroes the softer/finer it is).

I use magic eraser with alcohol, afterwards use shaft paper (4000 and 8000 grit) to smooth it down then burnish with leather back to its shiny self.

The color coded shaft paper looks like wet/dry sandpaper for clay/ceramics that you can find at a crafts store.

Look on ebay for jewelers abrasive pads. The set goes from 1500 to 12000 grit. your shaft will look and feel like glass. :smile:
