Guys, I just wanted to share my enjoyment at having yesterday moved into a new larger apartment and had a 9' table installed in the living room on the 16th floor overlooking a spectacular Shanghai skyline with sun streaming through the window.

The table is a local make called Shanghai Le Le. The corner pockets are 4 and1/3 inches at the tips and center pocket just a touch under 5 inches.

The cloth is a snooker cloth, but I had them put in on upside down so that there is no directional nap. The texture and speed is pretty similar to the Mali cloths being used at the KOH.

It's so much better than practicing in a pool hall. No rush, can stop and start and think about things. I'm having a ball!

Just wanted to share my glee and make a few people jealous :p :D

Good for you! Home tables are very nice and one can get a lot of work done without all dsistractions.
Just a little advice, get out once in a while and play on something different. It will keep you sharper. There is a danger in getting to familiar with one table. FWIW.

pix??

did we mention we want pix of table and view? enjoy!! when i had a table installed up in ky. i loved it!

Gloat on sir.... That sounds like an awsome set up worthy of envy.... My pool game did not improve much until I got a home table...

would be cool to see pics of that skyline over the pool table colin!

16th floor huh! building have a big freight elevator? you do the install?
that must have been a pain. :(

Congrat on your new table.;)
Isn't the snooker cloth heavier?
Is Mali/Championship/Simonis not avaliable in China?
There is a company called the "star" which builds tables, right? Do they have cloth as well?
I must have asked you more questions here than I have on this forum in the last month.
Thank you.
Merry Christmas.

You're thinking of Star Brand tables. I didn't ask them but asked a couple of other companies. They'd never heard of Mali. It's not easy to get that kind of info from sellers here. Even if they have or can get the product, they don't know the english pronunciation.

I figure the 100% woolen snooker cloth is about the same speed as the Mali I saw. I'm just hoping it doesn't gather up into piles as it's not on the playing side. Anyway, it's near enough that I won't need too much adjustment. If I played on the standard fast worsted cloths the transistion would be very hard.

I'll try to get some pix in a few days. (No more heckling:D ) Still busy moving stuff into the new place...and playing.

Glad to hear it :) I know how it feels. I am picking up a table on Saturday and just can't wait. I sold my last table a few months ago before I moved and have felt lost without it. Got my Simonis, in the mail, today. Will have it setup before xmas. Gonna get back in stroke, real quick, then head down to the local pool rooms and rob everbody since I am new in town and they do not know me ;)

Congratulations on the move and the wise investment.

Good for you CaptiveBred!
I think it's a pretty wise investment too....at just over US$1k for the table, fully installed by a couple of locals. I'm taking a hike in rent of about US$200/month, but I can spend that pretty easy at the pool hall getting 1/4 the practice I'll get at home. I can also attend to business while I'm practicing as I have my laptop hooked up next to my table awaiting emails.

Also, if all the extra practice gets me through one additional round in just one of the 4 IPT events, then the investment pays for itself.

I almost always have had a table in my home, except since I moved to China. I had a 6 footer in my bedroom at age 7 or 8 (forgot) and the next year my father added a snooker room to the house with a 12' professional snooker table, which I played on growing up.

Later I played English pool and had a 7' stadard size table in the houses I rented as I drifted around.

A house is not a home without a table...lol:D

so youve aquired a table, good for you... now no excuses, GET R DONE!

congradulations...

If you need something there just let us no, any of us would be happy to send it to you. I have friends in Europe who own American cars and I am often sending them parts.

That's great Colin! I would love to have a skyline view. All I have is trees and bushes and the house across the street to look at. LOL I advise on some heavy blinds (thick ones), not the cheap ones, for the times when the sun is baring down on you.

Don't be afraid to pencil the heck out of your cloth for drills. I wish I would have done that sooner and kept from trying to make it look nice for so long. My advice is to use the table at home to practice and then go out to play and see how your speed is gaging.

I found playing at home kind of sucks, but drills and feel practice at home is fantastic. Good Luck brother.

Well done Colin ! But sorry to disappoint you, I'm not jealous at all, having a table myself and a 2 to 12 minute drive to the country whose population density is only a few people per square mile (my feable attempt at making you jealous, enjoy the skyline).

For some reason I'm not worried about the balance in your pool routine now that you have a table. A reasonable practice to competition ratio of 4:1 or 8:1 is so much easier with a home table. And I'm sure you're not going to pass up any competitive opportunities !

Donovan has good advice in my opinion. My table is marked with small permenant marker dots (drill the tip of a fine point marker, the dot is 4mm or so) at every diamond intersection. It makes setting up shots much more repeatable, expecially over the long term. It also makes reprodcing shots from various material much more accurate. When playing you hardly notice the dots exist, they are that small.

Dave, who agrees with the rationalization, and thinks it should help you get a round or two farther in the IPT draws, good luck my friend !
