Maybe the greatest shot EVER! ralf souquet

its the european championships. we play wpa rules! wpa rules are CALL SHOT! so he HAD to call it.
AMAZING SHOT!!!!!

Pffft, that's nothing. I make that about 50% of the time... when I'm trying to 1-rail the bank.

And just as impressive as the shot itself, was that Ralf's demeanor didn't change.

If things don't work out for him in pool, he can always play poker.

Thanks for sharing this clip.

Green to you!

Best,

I have to ask if they were playing by WPA rules, because if they were it is very likely that Souquet had a 2 way shot in mind. He could easily have been thinking if it doesn't go (which is the most likely case) he leaves him only a bank with the 9 on the side rail and maybe even hooks him behind the 10 Ball. A lot of times guys will call a shot "just in case" in these situations.

@dogs: REALLY??? you think it could have been a 2 way shot?? NNOOOO WWAAAAYYY... LOOLL
of course he didnt went for it 100%, but i think the fact that he called it + made it deserved the title of the thread ;)

This is a pretty well known 2 way shot among Filipinos. Francisco Bustamante showed me and some others this exact shot at a clinic a few years ago. The idea is that if you miss, the object ball will continue down to one end of the table and the cue ball will be at the other end. Ralf actually hit it too soft to achieve this outcome.

However, just because the shot is known, doesn't mean it isn't amazing, particularly at that moment in the tourney.

Ralf is one of the best ever, and this is yet another example showing why.

Thanks for the post,

at the last 16 at the european 10 ball championships, ralf souquet played a shot at hill-hill, after his opponent missed the 9 ball!! im sure you`ve never seen anything close to that!!!
BTW: IT`S CALL SHOT!!!!

I've seen it (Mark Wilson in a game of rotation on a 5 x 10 table against yours truly).

I've tried it (later the same day; on a 5 x 10; I didn't come very close). It is a shot familiar to billiards players; foreign to pool players.

I gotta be a bit of a wet blanket here.
..don't like the shot

Earl,in his prime, was very good at hitting this one thin and going 2 rails
behind the 10-ball...worse case scenario, a tough leave.
Jose Parica was equally good at this

Agreed, it was a great shot. I certainly didn't mean to suggest otherwise. All I was saying is that he probably had the safety more in mind than he was concentrating on making the 9. If you look at it that way he was a little lucky it went in because had it not the safety wouldn't have worked out nearly as well as he would have liked. In other words, I don't think he hit the shot quite like he intended. That takes a little of the "greatness" out of it is all.

Heck, I wouldn't have even thought of the shot to begin with. I'll have to file that one in the memory banks.

Great shot under pressure.

Now watch what he does right after he make that shot. Outstanding presence of mind to clear his brain for the next shot.
