I wouldnt even know where to start, to try and explain what this cue means to me. Let me just say that Mike was one of the finest people I have met in my life.

Heres the story

I spent about three weeks going back and forth on the phone with Mike, over this cue. I told him I wanted a 6 pointer with those color veneers, he said no problem. I then said I wanted the 6 pointer to be with uneven points, he said no problem. I told him the design is up to him, he has never let me down yet, he said no problem.

Thats when I said I wanted the rings to be Ivory with silver on either side, he said THATS A DARN PROBLEM, I wont do those rings anymore. Mike kepy explaining to me that he would not do them because over time they will lift, and shift, and I will feel them through the finish, and he wont make any cues that wont look and feel as good in 30 years, as they do the day they were made.

I knew he had me on this but I juust wouldnt give up. I said I would keep this one forever and if they did come up a tad, I would send it back to him to refinish. Well this went back and forth until he finally said "OKAY YOU PAIN IN THE ASS, I WILL MAKE IT FOR YOU ONLY BECAUSE ITS YOU"

I wasnt too sure if I should be happy or not being he called me a pain in the ass.....LOL

Well tragedy strikes and the cue is still in the shop. Bob was kind enough to send it to me. The cue needed a final finish, a wrap and 2 shafts. I had also talked to Mike about calling this cue BLUE ICE......and he engraved that into the butt under his logo. He called me a few days before he passed and said "that Blue Ice deal looks terrible, so I took it off and put another butt on.

I asked Tony From BB if he would do the honors and finish this cue up for Mike, He said send it over. The love that Tony had for Mike was a site to see, when they were together, it was like two twin bothers.

Tony put a beautifull commerative plate of engraved Ivory under the wrap.

So enough rambling.........heres my Mike Cochran family heirloom cue.

Hey

Steve...Jun....thanks so much for the kind words. It was a little tough writing about this one

Alton, your the best.....lets see what you can come up with to top this beauty off

I love the open windows design and the inlay shapes. The veneer colors, royal purple and new teal work very nicely. Hats off to Tony to finish the cue.

I have to say I think this is one of my favorites of cues Steve. The color scheme is incredible and the inlays are remarkable. I havent seen inlays shaped like that before but they look amazing.

In all honesty to me this cue is magic. Sounds cheesy I know but the amount of emotion, love, and care that went into this cue. Well I wouldnt even want to play with someone who knows a guy who heard about a guy who had this cue lol.

Incredible Steve absolutely incredible.

Steve, You are as special as this cue you so deserve. I am speechless at seeing this beautiful cue finished by such a true friend of Mike"s which Tony is. He's not too bad at cuemaking either l.o.l. Bless ya Tony. It doesn't get any better.

Very nice indeed

This is my favorite ring combination. I used to have a Scruggs cue with that ringwork and traded it away. I still regret doing that. Thank God I still have one Scruggs cue with that combo.

This is a great color and design layout. Thanks to Tony for finalizing the cue to it's needed completion. Thanks to Steve for posting the wonderful pictures.

Wow, this is an amazing piece of art. Whenever someone shows another one of Mike's cues, I'm always taken aback by how original each one of them really is. Even after seeing 20, 30, 40 MC cues, it's hard to say what the next one you see will look like. Mike seemed to excel at walking that fine line between elegance and extravagance. What I mean is that his cues were obviously high-end cues, incredibly creative, vibrant and fresh, but there's a simplicity to all of them also that I think speaks to the man himself. No matter how good his cues looked, I could still imagine running a rack with each of them. All of them scream out to be played with, even if they belong in a museum. Thanks for the story Steve and the photos. It's always nice to have a story to go along with all the beautiful photos.
