I wouldnt even know where to start, to try and explain what this cue means to me. Let me just say that Mike was one of the finest people I have met in my life.
Heres the story
I spent about three weeks going back and forth on the phone with Mike, over this cue. I told him I wanted a 6 pointer with those color veneers, he said no problem. I then said I wanted the 6 pointer to be with uneven points, he said no problem. I told him the design is up to him, he has never let me down yet, he said no problem.
Thats when I said I wanted the rings to be Ivory with silver on either side, he said THATS A DARN PROBLEM, I wont do those rings anymore. Mike kepy explaining to me that he would not do them because over time they will lift, and shift, and I will feel them through the finish, and he wont make any cues that wont look and feel as good in 30 years, as they do the day they were made.
I knew he had me on this but I juust wouldnt give up. I said I would keep this one forever and if they did come up a tad, I would send it back to him to refinish. Well this went back and forth until he finally said "OKAY YOU PAIN IN THE ASS, I WILL MAKE IT FOR YOU ONLY BECAUSE ITS YOU"
I wasnt too sure if I should be happy or not being he called me a pain in the ass.....LOL
Well tragedy strikes and the cue is still in the shop. Bob was kind enough to send it to me. The cue needed a final finish, a wrap and 2 shafts. I had also talked to Mike about calling this cue BLUE ICE......and he engraved that into the butt under his logo. He called me a few days before he passed and said "that Blue Ice deal looks terrible, so I took it off and put another butt on.
I asked Tony From BB if he would do the honors and finish this cue up for Mike, He said send it over. The love that Tony had for Mike was a site to see, when they were together, it was like two twin bothers.
Tony put a beautifull commerative plate of engraved Ivory under the wrap.
So enough rambling.........heres my Mike Cochran family heirloom cue.
