Thanks again for everyone's input... I appreciate everyone's ideas and criticisms. I like hearing good and bad because that way we can learn and adapt where necessary...
that said, I want to address a few things briefly:
1) We do have a plan that will work to get people into this event for less that $100. Some people have hinted at formulas and ideas that are very close to what I have come up with. I can't release all the details right now, but there is a plan. I have already bought some new domain names for it, designed logos, and have the framework laid out... My dad is reviewing some of the numbers and pertinent details, but everyone who has heard about it loves it. It will work, and it has the potential to fill this event with hundreds of players, all satellite-d in for less that $100, or around that.
2) Satellites were created as suggestions for players to bring this event to the local level. You do not need a 200 man field to have a satellite, I don't know where that idea came from. Again, I have been busy, so I have to go back and re-read some posts to fully understand peoples questions. However, what we suggested could go as follows:
>> A poolroom hosts a $25 mini satellite once a week. One out of every eight players wins entry into a $200 satellite. Odd numbers (not odd, just not multiples of 8) of players = payouts for 2nd and 3rd place.
>> Supposing each events gets 16 players, thats 2 winners into a $200 satellite event
>> After 16 weeks there are 32 players who have won a $200 satellite 'entry'... Players can also buy-in directly for $200.
>>Now, there is a 32 man event
>> The winner of this event is in the $1,000,000 Shootout, guaranteed $1000 payout, with the chance to play with World Champions and maybe advance through to round 2
Now, you can add variables, like having this $25 event twice a week, or having a 5 man $5 tournament the night before to win entry into the $25 event. Yes, it takes some work on the local level, but if poolrooms want to make money, then they offer fun and exciting things for players to participate in. Agreed, there is no money in these events for the poolrooom, but they get players in there, spending money on other things... or make it $30, and $5 goes to the house. Whatever works, again - we're providing a framework for what can work.
This won't work everywhere, we know that, but it can work in lots of places. And it isnt limited to $25 events, they could be $50 - and fill twice as fast... the point is, be creative. We are trying to suggest a framework or idea and let people run with it. We provide the final event, but we can't be everywhere to help everyone. Ideally, yeah, we could. Ideally, we could advertise in every city and every magazine every month, but these things are expensive, and unfortunately, we are not rich. We're trying, and we will continue our efforts and make this event huge...
