More harm than help?

I mentioned to friend that I warmed up at my home table for a while before coming out to the pool room for league night. He said it's not helpful to play a different table right before a league match. What do you think, more harm than help?

Probably depends on the person. Hitting balls on any table can only help keep you in stroke. If you are practicing speed control, multi-rail position and such, then a different table could throw you off a little.

My solution I have found that helps me is to not practice at all.:D

Keep warming up. At least your stroke and shot making. If you're worried about speed just develop a warm up routine that doesn't contain much speed control requirements. Get loose before you get there.

I disagree, it helps get you in stroke. Still get to the pool hall early enough to hit some balls and allow your eyes to adjust to the lighting.

THIS, imo.

Unlike everyone else  I also feel getting your stroke warmed up can be done on any table. Only you will know if its working for you or not, and if you believe it helps than most likely it will. Pool is a very mental game afterall.

my opinion would be to just shoot long straight shots, with emphasis on stroking true and smooth, and pay no attention to speed and position at all. That will change with rails, cloth, and atmosphere anyway. A straight smooth stroke will work on any table.

Switching from a big table to bar box (or vice-versa) might affect your play, but that might be a good or bad thing.

I find that a couple racks of 3-ball helps me get into stroke on league night. Helps you focus on position play for a variety of 3-ball patterns.

I to, think it depends on the individual. I know I got warmed up one night with a redhead and a fifth of Quervo. When I got home it didn't seem to help at all. :)

To me thats the same as saying that I drive a 1/2 ton but can't drive a car.
When I get to the bar on league night, I have no idea which table we might be playing on.

You're warming up your arm/stroke, getting focused for the night and making some shots.
How can that be a bad thing. I'd rather do that, than go in cold.

Steve...IMO, that's baloney. Some of the things I showed you during our lesson give you the ability to "adjust" to any table in a matter of minutes.

I go the local room and warm up on the 9' Diamond with "Pro-Cut" pockets, then go to my match and destroy my opponent on the bar table. It's almost like cheating.

@Slach

for sure it isn t contra-productive what you re doing- how Joe Tucker shown up- just get loose-and anyway. If it helps you to feel good and relaxed, keep it! YOU have to feel comfortable, not the other guy^^

My league match tonight will be on 7' Diamonds. A nice place with nice tables, just small tables. I will be warming up on a 9' with triple shimmed pockets beforehand. Makes everything seem so easy...

You took the words out of my mouth Scott. And thanks again for this.

I will add this. If you're not paying attention during your practice session. If you're just banging balls around, its not practice and you're probably wasting your time other than maybe getting loosened up. If you pay attentention then you can bring it to any table.

This is what I have done (using Gold Crowns) for years then to league or tournament play (typically on Valley Cougar 93's). It seems like stupid pool its so easy.

On another note, plugging $1 into a Cougar is stupid pool.

Sometimes the equipment does not like you starting on other equipment.

Stick with the correct equipment or you will never get that voice out of your head.

Some of the best pool I've ever played was after warming up with Snooker beforehand.
