Mosconi Cup 2010 - Who would you pick?.

im going to my first ever mosconi cup in december i cant wait, but i dont really keep up to date with pool as its rarely televised in uk, and i really want to see earl 'the pearl' strickland play, anyone know the chance of him playing?

I think Earl would have to win or finish runner-up in the US Open to even stand a chance of being considered. I believe he is currently 13th or 14th in the BCA Rankings for US players. If he did finish in the top 3 or 4 he might also creep into any Fan Vote.

Hatch got voted in last year and got mvp so he may have an automatic spot. With the lineup as is, its almost a coinflip no matter who gets voted in. If europe keeps the same lineup we may even take it if an american mc veteran gets voted in...J SMT would be my pick.

This year I'm either voting for Chris bartrum (because he seems to be the most active AZ pro)....or John S. I heard Darren Appleton is a beast now so I'd like to see two guys that matched up with him for the cash in this event.

Oscar ???

Of all the selections posted ,Oscar , (Last years participant)was not
on any of the selection and Archer and Shane made every ones
list. Very interesting, as it does show a certain amount of consistency
as to how those two players ability and popularity is received.

Damn, no one wants to see Donny Mills voted on ??? hed be forced to travel by boat to europe lol.

Doesn't matter who the Europeans have on their team. Bring the Mosconi cup to Kalispell, Montana and I choose Don Lundy[me], Chad Sylvester, Matt Huerta, Jake Knudsen[Big Sky Jake] and Jeff Boucher. 11-0 and out!!!:grin-square:

Yeah, by Europe!

How about...

Last yr I was hard on the Hatch bandwagon and it turned out to be great for the team. So lookin in my Voodoo Magic 8-ball, my picks<as if they matter>are;

Archer
Hatch
Morris
SVB
&
Charlie Bryant!!

Not saying Corey, Donnie Mills, Chris Bartrum or anyone else mentioned arent great choices but I know the Team Euro would NOT want to see that much drive come off that plane.

Wait, two of my choices cant be good...ones overrated and one never leaves the Joss tour...:rolleyes:right Johnnyt?

I would love to see Donny in the vote, but as you say he'd probably have to go by boat. The last transatlantic probably leaves mid November, so I could always give Donny my brothers address in the UK to sty there for 3-4 weeks

You guys didn't like Oscar Dominguez from last year?:grin-square:

USA

Archer
SVB
Strickland (if he can behave)
Morris or Deuel
Schmidt

Europe

Souquet
Immonen
Feijen
Hohmann
Appleton

You know your not the only one criticizing me being on the team. Most of the American players thought I didnt deserve it. We did beat what was claimed the best European team assembled. What people like you dont understand there is that there is more to playing on a team than making balls. Having everyones' respect as someone who gives it 100% on every shot motivates the team. I made that team working and going to school. Made #1 ranking playing all the same events as everyone else.

What have you done? Ill be at US Open if ya wanna play some.

For the record, I think Stevie Moore deserves a chance. He's been paying his dues. Corey, Svb, JA, Hatch and Stevie.

Well said! No question team chemistry is important. The big O got along well with everybody, unlike another former player who shall remain unnamed.

Fair enough, I stand corrected. You have brought up some good points and you get my sincere apologies.

Lo siento

No sweat. I'm just tired of hearing how I didn't deserve it. And all the players that say that can get played if they work one week with me. Then we'll see how smooth their stroke is.

I'll still be at the open looking for action in 10ball. Those who want to make a game, get ahold of me on FB or something.

To keep the thread on topic, the Us Open will definitely move the rankings around for whoever wants that 3rd ranking spot. Lots of euros are depending on the Portugal Euro tour event. Peach should be locked in as he won 2 events. I'll bet a Brit gets another spot besides Karl...

Good post's by both you guys (MPP & Jay), I would agree that in any team sport, the interaction between the team members is often as important as who's in the team in the first place. If there's tension outside of matches it inevitablt spills over somewhat into whatever you are playing. There are too many teams in too many sports to name them but I'm sure if you just think about any sport you'll come up with them.

It's TEAM USA guys, so whoever is in the Team this year let's all get behind them, every time they play wether you are a Fan or Team Member. I am putting my life on the line here guys, as an ex-Brit, now fairly new US Citizen, knowing some of the European Supporters and being Team USA's most avid supporter I am in deep sh*t. I will expect nothing less from you all be you team member or supporter

If it were up to me (and I am really glad it's not) I think the Captain should at least have input into any picks and any Fan Vote participants. MPP I'm also sorry to hear that you feel most American Players didn't think you were worth your spot on the team. IMO you showed the doubters what a good player and team member you are. Playing in any competition at any level with the Team score ending up as it did, anyone should be happy to accept the results you had. Damn if someone had come up to me before the competition started and said Team USA could win if I myself was prepared to drop 3-4 matches and they'd all be against Ralf or Mika I would take it in an instant. I would expect any team memebr to do the same, thats what Team play is about.

I Thought I was the lone wolf here in support of new blood. I thought you earned your spot personally! You won the big Zuglan event!

I am shocked that Derby City Classic gets ZERO credit towards the BCA ranking and so do alot of other tournaments count ZERO!

Mike Deschaine just won the Big Zuglan event and based on the BCA ranking got nothing toward his ranking!

Here is the BCA ranking and how it is calculated!

http://www.azbilliards.com/2000pointslist.php

The last event for Zuglan does not show him awarded first place points they called it the empire state something!

I stopped caring long ago! But, In this day and age I am against injustice! If you deserve it then you should be awarded it. If not! Then using players choice or people choice or MVP to justify a slot is just wrong!

Its like robin hood taking from one player and giving to another!

Best of luck to you and may the force be with you!!!

My Picks...

Team Europe

Karl Boyes (confirmed via his blog)
Darryl Peach (won two eurotour events and has history with matchroom )
Ralf Souquet ( basically has his spot in stone as long as he is playing decent)
Mika Immonen ( way too recognizable to not have on team)
Last Spot is toss up between Thorsten Hohmann, Niels Feijen and Darren Appleton. But will most likely go to any Euro if they win the US Open....if not I would have to say Thorsten.

Team USA
Johnny Archer ( BCA #1)
Rodney Morris ( BCA#2 and shooting lights out this year)
Dennis Hatch ( reigning MVP and good for TV)
Shane Van Boening ( too good and well recognized to not be on team)
Fan Vote between Corel Deuel, Earl Strickland, Mike Dechaine, Charlie Williams and Stevie Moore.

Just my two cents...
