My Fargorate progression

I played two Salotto sets with my buddy in New Jersey who is a 592/1600. I won 10-9 and 10-8. I told him I was going to take his points from him, ha ha. We've been gambling since we were teenagers. We are 45ish now. I went from 571 to 574. He went from 592 to 591.
Aren't you scheduled to play in a capped tournament? Getting close?

Yes. 578, with a 10 point margin. I'm unclear if I exceed the margin, but then come back down before the event, if I'm allowed or not. I'm playing this guy again tonight, and plan on beating him. I've been beating him for 20 years (well, back and forth anyway). I also have a MR event this weekend in Philly I'm playing in.

Good luck at Bluegrass.

I'd love to play you.
My fargo is similar to yours, 1100 robustness.
Haven't played in a fargo rated tournament in 5 years.

Yeah let’s do it this trip. I just got to town this week, and I’ll be here for 6 weeks.

Were any of the matches on Diamonds??? If so did you bitch/whine/moan like you do on here? Surprised you'd even screw your cue together if you even got a whiff of a Diamond.

Funny I was talking to a fellow AZr and he said he seldom comes to AZ anymore because of all your negative bs.

I recall you apologized once about your pain coming out in your posts , well it's happening again.

I'd say the majority were on Diamonds.

Yes, about every player I play on Diamonds I show how bad they bounce. It is what it is. I won't relent on that.

Funny thing is over the years, the players got used to the Diamond ping pong bounce, and now "I'm" the outcast. I won't apologize for trying to inform the players of a proper rail bounce. Ever.

Oh, the player I played a few night ago who is a 592 also thought the Diamonds played like ping pong balls and the shelf was stupid deep. I didn't even say anything to him, he did on his own.

Garczar is 100% cool in my book. He says it like it is. Yes, I come off as a crybaby for this topic. I feel strongly about it, it's just the way it is. I doubt anyone left AZ to be honest because of anyone. More likely they just switched to FB. It's way, way harsher there, ironically! ha ha.

Anyway, back to fargo. I'm heading to play my buddy again tonight on Salotto. A bunch of our friends will be watching, so we both will be trying extra harder to win. This time will also be on 9' Diamonds, but the cloth is newer, so should be a little easier.

Great response. I totally view AZ like a virtual pool hall. Complain about anything too much out in the wild, and you'll get grief just like Garczar is giving you here. If nobody busts your balls in the pool room you're doing something wrong.

Watching now. Is this the 1st or 2nd set? Nvm, I thought the coins had started from the bottom end of the table. Didn't realize yall were breaking towards the camera.
Also, does that pool hall have any alcohol? I don't see a single person drinking. 😀
That was first set. It was horrible for both of us. Maybe the worst we both ever played in 25 years. It was def not the table, we were both missing by a diamond 6 times each rack. I'll probably delete it! ha ha. I put the coins at the other end of the table figuring they'd show up on camera better at the start of the set.

Tom won 10-6 first set. Then we turned the camera off, we both got sick of it. Second set we both played much better.
Nick won 7-4 second set.

Salotta is a pain in the ass. It super takes away from the rhythm of the game. Also we forget to put the score a bunch of times. I think the app can be improved from a UX perspective as well. If it stayed on the front of the phone like Uber does, it would be way less intrusive to the flow of the game. Streaming was also a royal pain in the ass. It took us probably 30 minutes to get it going.

The room was league night and jumping. No served alcohol, but BYOB is allowed. In PA, apparently a liquor license costs a few hundred thousand dollars, and very few places have them. I don't know this as fact, just what I heard over the years going to pool rooms that were all dry. (I'm not a drinker at all).

Oh, I forgot, we were breaking MR rules and both having a hard time making a ball. One rack I actually made 3 balls. Then I went brain dead and picked up the CB, thinking I was playing the ghost.

Another rack, I shot the 3, then the 5, then Tom says you forgot the 4. ha ha. It was just bad all around.

Set 2 we went to regular break rules. I'll say on the amateur level, there is ZERO wrong with normal 9 ball break rules from 30 years ago. I think you have to get to 750 speed range for the break format to have any effect whatsoever. IMO:)

Thank you for all of the info. The only downside to the way you started the coins, is when someone gets to 8-9 the viewer can no longer see them. But other than that, the stream quality was really good for just the 2 of you guys doing it. Do you think being on camera affected your/his game? Also, just from watching this set, I would recommend slowing down in between shots (this is something I'm guilty of myself and never noticed it until I saw myself on camera.) I had no idea I was moving that fast from shot to shot. After I slowed down, and focused more on my PSR, my game literally jumped a ball. Just something to consider.

I think the implication is people might need to avoid competition to protect their rating from going over 588. In fact there is a decent chance if everybody just keeps performing and improving as much as they can and doing their best, all of the players will be at 588 or lower at the time of this tournament. One way to get a sense of this is to look at how these players' ratings have changed since March, a bit over 6 months ago. If these changes happened again just like this over the next 6 months, one player would be at 589 and all the rest under 588.

The average of the players is at about 560 now and so has almost 30 points leeway

Math is math. Can't deny that.

However, I experienced disqualification a month or so ago just prior to a rare <680 event. The weekly recalculation had me tick up a point from 679. No play, just the weekly adjustment. I pay enough attention to know it was going to come back down, but the TD excluded me. No complaints, but a reality when on the bleeding edge of typical cut off points. ...and true to form. My rating went back down to 679 ~8hrs after the event started...lol

I've managed some half hearted efforts in my local room and free fell to 674. 675 is a more typical cut off point. So as long as I avoid reporting events I should be able to get in to something decent eventually...lol

For a long while I was chasing the idea that I should be a ~680 player. I'd check for updates constantly and get pumped as I slowly crept up to that mark. Now I know that to get beyond that threshold I'll have to invest effort/time that I just don't have. Now I check to see if I've dropped enough to be allowed to compete more than a few times a year.

I've personally adopted the MR format 98% of the time. Unless I'm playing in a less progressive room/league that still follows the old rules.

Just a different CB placement and target area on the 1 ball. Both are hit at the same pace, (hard enough to be effective). While I won't claim the same 'pot on break' efficiency while hitting the MR version. I'm still pretty solid. Like everything else. Just practice.

The bigger trick on the MR break is recognizing where the 2b ended up in the rack and striking the CB in a manner that keeps it either down or at mid table.
