NACPBA and Tim Dennis

While I agree with the privacy rights etc of the individual, this is information ANYONE can get on ANYBODY in a matter of minutes. I doubt anyone considering using someone's public personal information is going to waste time searching for it on a pool forum instead of going directly to the source. Of course I can understand not wanting to have your personal information posted on a forum. I know I wouldn't want my address posted publically, but that's not going to stop anyone from finding it if they wanted to.

I posted this in the other thread, but I guess you are so proud of yourself you had to start a new one.

The posting of personal information of people have done no wrong is total BS and not right. How would everyone on this forum feel about having their personal info posted for the world to see. Name, address, phone, what your house is worth. It is not right and should be edited.

Is that what we are gonna do now? Before you do a cue deal call the AZ CSI to post the potential buyers CV so eveyone can vet him? I have no problem with finding out who is in on this deal but posting the personal info is over the line.

You can explain what you found with out posting the personal information. But then that would not make you look as cool.

So that was you I saw picketing in front of the homes of the stars tour offices.

Not to sound like an asshole or anything, but this information isn't private by any means. This information can be obtain via whois.org or internic.net as well as networksolutions.com, for free. This is public domain registration information and has always been public since the inception of the internet. And if you want to take it one step further you can find out who is provider is just by using arin.net and doing a lookup on the ip address space that his website uses. And I'm fairly certain that since Mr. Dennis runs an IT shop of somekind, that he knows that this information is public.

I know where to look. I also know that posting personal info on a message board with no earthly reason other than pure speculation is BS. I also know many hosting companies offer anyomous registration for just this reason.

The fact is, it is wrong. Justify it all you like. If I found someone doing it to me I would raise holy hell.

Just because you can does not mean you should.

This has nothing to do with Dennis or this tour. It is a security issue and should be addressed.

Very Good Info may be lurking just from NACPBA.COM

Okay, no more "Chicken Little"
Look at the Marketing contact name for the website and you will see the name of "Speer Mabry" This could be very good information to follow up on. A Google search shows a very influential and respected Attorney named E. Speer Mabry is a founding partner of a well respected law firm in Atlanta.

www.m-mlegal.com/home.asp

Now, if Speer Mabry and E. Speer Mabry are the same person, which I have a feeling it very well may be, then this is a very postive connection to NACPBA. This puts a whole different and hopefully positive light on things. The NACPBA website is very well done and took a lot of time and resources to put in place.

Just the facts.

that is why many give no starting point

You are right, posting people's personal information is just wrong. The owner of this forum objects to such things but that doesn't stop it from happening. Not giving people a starting point does prevent it from happening. Those that choose not to give people a starting point incur no loss of respect from me and their posts have equal value to anyone's, every post stands or falls on it's own merit.

JCIN - Since you have a connection to the players & ins @ the billiard industry, what you ought to do is organize the players & have their $$$$ ($2,500 registration fee) put into an escrow account. Then go to the NCAPBA and let them know that you have the $320,000 (128 players x $2500) in an escrow and will desperse the $$$ at a rate of $14,545 ($320,000 / 22 events) at each event they hold. Surely, an organization that is going to guarantee $22 million & spend $180,000 - $200,000 on tables isn't concerned with a mere $320,000. I don't see how the NACPBA could argue with this. No they aren't the IPT, KT, DENO, Camel Tour, Don Mackey or Brady Behrman but the history in this sport is there so they will have to walk on egg shells until proven differently.
Why on earth would I or anybody try to get in the middle of this thing. We don't even know what it really is or isn't yet. All I know is that they seem to be serious and supposedly have the funding behind them. It could all change in a minute. If they come with the check for the tables next week it will show they are serious. If not, we are right back where we were last week.

I do not know these people, I have no super connections. All I know is what people I trust tell me and that is, this is not some teenager in his bedroom ,it has the potential to be real. The chances are even if the money is real that something will get screwed up anyway. What they are proposing is enormous. The devil as always is in the details.

I for one am going to hold off on jumping for joy or reaching for the flaming torch and pitchfork. In this situation I am straight from Missouri...Show Me.

This is pathetic,to post personal info of someone or some new company that is trying to make the sport we love BETTER.
You people should be ashamed of yourselves. You have no idea what his future plans or ideas are, whether good or evil, but to post his personal information on the internet.......WOW,no wonder this sport is in so much trouble!Absolutely pathetic.
I'm speechless. If I were him and saw this, I would pull the plug and let you whinny, negative pool players starve.

Technically it was already on the Internet. But yeah, I get what you're saying. :p

I do wonder how many of the so-called starving and whiny "negative pool players" who have posted on this thread are actually serious contenders for this tour, willing to post up $2,500 and actually play in it.

As an aside, the info was quoted in Corvette1340's post, and I think he should edit his post on this thread and DELETE it, as it was on this forum by its webmaster.

you obviously don't work with attorneys - to assume that a product is "positive" because it may be associated with someone that is a partner in a firm, interesting to say the least.

on another note, in my opinion, there are many things that should not be on forums (dating habits, etc. etc. of the players), but if the information is public where anyone can find it, why does it matter?

lastly, i think having too much information to sift through prior to sinking money into a venture is not a bad thing, but people have to give these guys a chance to at least LAUNCH their site and tour before they hammer them into the ground.

You are right on the money... as you usually are.

As pool fans we SHOULD be trying to be a part of making ventures successful. In that capacity we don't need to hide our heads in the sand but we shouldn't be putting someones business on the street.... not until they've earned our distrust.

It's likely that you'll find whatever you're looking for so it's best to Look for the good and then you'll find it... and in finding it you'll promote it.

I just read the new article on the front page.... how does this guy equate changing pool in a positive direction and making it more professional.. and then in the next breath say the players shouldn't give a "DAMN" where the money comes from?

He's talking out of both sides of his mouth.. the "Players need to be held to a higher standard" but the "League" can have various accounts filled by nameless strangers, cursing when pressed about it in interviews, and the players should accept that this is all "Professional"

I'm lost...

I just read through Tim Dennis' (???) dissertation on Pool. My first thought was spare me the history lesson, and my second thought was it all sounded a little too familiar. The over all tone and approach was so IPT like (please forgive the very much intended comparison).

And I'm uncomfortable with the first four "Qualifying" tournaments for NO MONEY! HELLO!!! Not to mention that he wants $2,500 up front from the 128 "chosen" players. You know the fortunate ones. That's $320,000 if anyone's counting. Not exactly chopped liver. A man could go far on 300K+. Look at Don Mackey, still living well on the 600K he collected from RJ Reynolds.

And then we have 20 tournaments with a "guaranteed" million dollar purse for each one. Why does this sound so familiar to me?

And the players will once again break their backs and pocket books to scramble for a spot on this "tour". When will these guys ever learn? I'm sorry to sound like a knocker, but I am a realist. And you're going to have to do more than make a nice speech and write a few pages of fluff to convince me.

But hey, that's just me. You can believe whatever you like. It's a free country.

I'm going to rathole my remarks til February when there is more info but it is very easy to read what's been posted thus far with a jaundice eye.

How does that old phrase go?

"Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me."

I really doubt people would be digging around and posting this stuff (public info - I did it myself, to a limited degree, in that first NACPBA thread) if the whole KT/IPT debacle hadn't happened. People are gunshy now, and understandably so - especially when this new tour is making even WILDER claims than KT did with the IPT.

It may well be that this Mr. Dennis and his partners are completely on the up-and-up. I hope they are. But they're going to have to work harder to prove it, post-IPT.

THINK PUTTING A NAME ON A SITE OPENS ALL UP FOR SCRUTINY; I AM HAVING MY MANY CONTACTS IN ATLANTA AS WELL AS MY OWN EFFORTS TO BE SURE PLAYERS ARE NOT SCREWED WITHOUT AN AIDS TALK FIRST. IF THIS EFFORT IS LEGIT, I WOULD LOVE TO BE A PART OF IT IN SOME CAPACITY; IF I DO, BE SURE IT IS ON THE LEVEL.
