Need Pre-Shot Routine For Getting out of car

you can buy a little magnetic box that will fit a key and put it inside your fender as a double back up in case you forget the fob.

thanks for the friday afternoon laugh johnnyt. im in my 40s and i get pissed as hell at all the times i forget where my keys/phone/ wallet are. Ive left my cues at the pool hall, forget about the coffee i left on the roof as i fumbled with keys to get in. I probably have lost over 1k in sunglasses alone in the past 4 years. The running joke is you want a good pair of sunglasses or a new iphone, just follow uwate around and he will leave his sh1t there for ya soon enough.

When I get deaf, I can only imagine now all the drama im gonna have in my life combined with my forgetfulness.

It's not the WORST habit Johnny....I ALWAYS leave my keys in my truck, but I've never locked them in! Yep, always unlocked and in the ignition. One day the truck will not be there, but I NEVER get locked out of my vehicle. lol :embarrassed2: Years and years of going jobsite to jobsite, I have always just left my keys in the ignition (in case my truck is in the way and someone needed to move it). Not really a big deal way back in the day when I drove a $500-$1000 beater to work, but someone driving off with a $30K+ truck could sting - yet, I still do it....and you think you're the dummy for locking the keys in the car twice in a month. :p

I've built a habit of making sure I can feel the keys in my hand right before I start to close the locked door.

I don't put them in my pocket until after I have closed the door. This way there's no confusion.

That happens to all of us JT. It has gotten so bad for me right now that I signed up with Tripple A, my problem is I have been locking myself into the car:embarrassed2:. I must roll down the windows just to get some air:p.

You can get a car like mine. As long as you have the key on your person it'll start. I just keep mine in my pocket so I never leave it in the ignition. Oh and if you do leave it in the car and lock the doors. Well it senses it and automatically unlocks. But before this car I kept a spare in my wallet. That's a whole lot cheaper. Only problem I had was after sitting on it a few times I bent it a little.

Johnny-I can believe that

based on some of my screw ups.

I lock myself out of the car with regularity too. Now, I try to remember to leave a window down a little bit to trip the automatic lock with an extend-o curtain rod that I keep wedged in the luggage rack on top. Yep-remembering is the problem.

Your cab ride reminded me-of a recent screw up of mine:

I ran out of gas after leaving the golf course. I lost. I bought a couple of rounds. I got a buzz. My car quit on me crossing the road, I coasted backwards downhill, crossing through the intersection again to the parking lot from where I started. A couple of downhill cars slammed on the brakes, allowing this bonehead driving manuever to be safely completed.

Short version-cost me about $60 for a gallon of gas.

That included a long cab ride with multiple stops, buying and dumping out a 2 liter soda bottle that I wasn't allowed to put gas in, buying a gas can, buying gas, leaving my cell phone in cab after getting gas, $4 in change calling information, 2 calls to a number in Mexico that 411 provided that wasn't the cab company, 4 calls to my cell phone that was in the backseat of the cab and finally a $20 tip to the cabbie for coming back to the golf course to deliver me my phone.

Kind of like a day at the pool room. I played bad and had both good rolls and bad rolls. It could have been much worse. This was one of my better outcomes-the good news-I was sobered up by the time I put gas back in the car-that was good.

Johnny-take care

i always do this:

i lock truck door ONLY, ONLY, ONLY with the key. rome, ga-sat. night, just ate at chili's; came back to truck-no keys. bust out door glass with borrowed hammer. get keys and go get two made- one for wallet and a spare to hide on truck. 99.9% of time now i lock doors with key, ensuring a way back inside.

I have to come up with a pre-shot routine for getting out of the car. I’ve locked the keys in my car twice in about a month. First time was in my driveway. This time I was over a mile from home. I can’t hear on a cell phone, so don’t have one. I can’t hear the bell in the car warning me to take my key out, so I walked home (not a good idea at 70 and poor health in Florida) to get the second set of keys. I took a cab back. Between the times it took to walk home, the 30-minute rest after I got home, and waiting for the cab, an hour and a half had gone by. When I opened the car door I realized the car had been running all that time. I can’t hear the engine either. I think it’s time for hide a key. Johnnyt

Sorry for what you are going through, but this is a great post. I love the pre-shot allegory.

Very nice and thanks for posting
