New Puppy Name??? (Pool Related)

I named my dog Balabushka, usually call him Bushka. It took me a while to decide, it may sound dumb but I usually have to have an animal for a little while to come up with a name. Normally based on personality or looks. He was real fluffy when we got him, kinda "bushy" if you will, so thats how he got the name.

Our cats on the other hand got their name before we even bought them. My oldest daughter had moved out and took the cat, so I had to replace him to cheer my other kids up. We went to the petstore and looked at several, but there were to brothers in a cage that were playful. For some reason my daughter looked at them and called them "Mac & Cheese". It stuck :)

I used to have a cat named Willie (after Mosconi), and my other cat's name was 8-Ball. My mother did not like "billiards" and would call my cat "April" instead of "8-Ball." Luckily, she was a girl. :grin-square:

Here's some pool names I'd consider if I were getting a pet today:

Pockets, Stripes, Grady, Derby, Wicket, Safety, Massé, Shark, Bumper, Snooker, Slop, Racker, Fish, Jelly Roll, Chalkie, Duck, Action, Barrel, Cheese, Shortstop, Whitey, and my all-time favorite...

...Railbird.

I am getting a 7month old male pug today.

I want to name it something pool related, but still have it a passable name for the kids and girlfriend.

Any ideas for a dog name???

Perfect name... "RAMBO" ....
Others:
Racks
Boti
Predator
I would say "Hustle" but it's a pug.
Maybe "Lag" would be better...
Best,
Ken

"Stick" ain't gonna work!

The most common pool nickname is probably Stick but I can't see that fitting a pug. I kinda like the idea somebody mentioned of naming him a shortening of Mosconi's name. I like Mosci. It is enough different to make folks ask about and it won't be misunderstood for something else like Mosco might be.

I had a high priced running horse baby named Cutoff Queen from the town her breeder was from. I didn't like it, sounded like she was short, and it didn't lend itself to nicknames. A friend that helped me with the horses always called her Annie. I asked him why, he said he didn't know she just looked like she should be called Annie. Annie she was for the next twenty years. Sometimes the name finds the animal.

My dog Bear, whom likes to walk around the table and under you while you are shooting:eek: Had I known this when we named him it would have been "SHARKY"

Good luck with your new dog

Well, mine is named Cueball. Which works because she is white.

This is when she was about 10 weeks. Now she is two and the queen of the house. Just like in pool I can't control the cueball. :-)

I have to pugs as well Black and Fawn. I like the name fats like someone posted earlier. I also like runout or misscue if it was a female.

7 months old....You might as well just name it "NO" because that is the most common phrase you will be saying for the next year or so..................but seriously if you have never had a pug before buy a book because they tend to stick to the personality traits documented. Also don't let em fool you ....they can hear and understand you, they are just stubborn.

My pug is named "Wrigley" after wrigley field.

I like the name scratch and cueball.( if fawn, because it will run around in circles when you get it hyper enough and just look like a white blur.)

Good Luck,

Dave

"Stopshot" (the pool equivalent of hockey's "slapshot")

I had a hockey-fanatic friend (common here in NY by the way, especially Long Island) who named his dog "slapshot." In the pool vein, "stopshot" sounds kinda cool, no? Especially with the pug breed's smushed-in face? :D

nobody mentioned '' BABE'' to honor mr. Cranfield.

one of my fave npr is "pilot" as he will pilot it here and pilot it there !

I just got two white kittens a few months ago-- brother and sister. They're mega cute. I named one Allison and the other Efren.

When I tell people the male's name is Efren.... they're like, "WTF?!?!????" EFREN? Who the hell names an animal Efren?"

Unfortunately the wife/girlfriend/kids might think of the talking pig in that famous movie. But then again, that might be the "cover" you need to get it approved!

"<whistles> Come here, Babe. <whistles>"
"Aww, how cute! You named your dog after the talking pig in that movie?"
"No."
"Oh, then you named him after the all-time great baseball player?"
"No."
"Then who's he named after?"
"The legendary pool player."
"Huh??"
...and this is your entry into a pool-related conversation! :D
