nicest and meanest

Amongst the pros I have to go with Tony Robles and Tommy Kennedy as the nicest I've met. As for the meanest, well I've met a lot of undesireable people in the pool world, no one really well known just a lot of unsavory people who I have no doubt would seel their own family down the river for a few bucks.

Pro - SVB.....in person, he comes across as a very considerate and dedicated professional, very impressed....

Teacher - Blackjack....he worked with me a couple of times back in the day, like his style and approach to the game.....

AZ peeps - way too many cool AZ peeps to mention...

I have met a lot of really nice people in pool. Mike Sigel has always been gracious to me, Gabe Owen was really cool, Nick Varner was great, but there are a lot more as well.

Since I only included the meanest (maybe the meanest) guy I've encountered in pool, I should include some nice folks as well. Eldridge Tucker was always nice to me, as were most of the rest of his family.

Darren Everett (sorry if I spelled that incorrectly Darren) is one heckua nice fellow and as honest as they come. Buddy Dennis seemed to be a great guy. Too many good people to name and only a few that stand out as "otherwise".

One of the nicest guys I've met is Dan Louie of Seattle, WA. Wonderful man and an incredible player!

I have to go with Tony Robles, Tommy Kennedy and the late Tony Ellen. If I was to run a invite only tournament for the rest of the world to see, they'd be the first 3 invited, just to set the standard. As far as meanest, I don't remember anyone really being mean to me, but met a lot of a55holes in pool.

Johnny Archer, I was in NC around 1995 read in Billiards Digest that he would often play practice sets with people giving them games on the wire I asked him if we could play like that he agreed to meet me the next night at 9 about 15 mins after 9 he calls the poolroom tells me he is running late but would be there came in and played 3 races to 13 with me refused to let me pay time or even buy a softdrink without a doubt one of the nicest people i have ever met

Surprise

On the couple of occasions I've spent time with Earl Strickland I was actually a little surprised at what a nice guy he is.

Bobby Legg was a true gentleman. Not many around like him . R.I.P

yes he was!you could ask bobby anything about pool, and he would know the answer,he would take the time to show anyone how to do things the right way on the pool table, and as you know he could do anything he wanted with that qball,i very glad bobby stayed in baltimore all those years and we became friends.

That is cool right there.... not to many will do that. To be one of the best players to ever live on this earth and taking time out like this is just great.

Shannon Daulton is another world champion who just is nice to about anyone. His wife Marge is one of the nicest people as well. You never EVER see her in a bad mood. Although Shannon may have stories ....lol.

I hear Nick Varner is right up there in this catogory.

Meanest: Well, I wasn't there but heard the story from 3 different people who were. Buddy of mine who plays decent went to Greensboro. NC to play and saw Earl there. Played him a race to 7 for $50. Now this guy has no chance in hell to win. Just wanted to play Earl Strickland once and get his autograph and be able to tell stories about it. My buddy got a few rolls and lucked in a cpl balls and what do you know ... beat Earl. Wow!
Earl, however, berated him the ENTIRE set and was such an a%^hole to him that that memory wasn't a good one for him. It went from being one of the best moments in pool for this guy to one of the worst. No sense in that really.

who are some of the nicest and meanest people that you have meet in the pool world.pool players, backers, sweaters, pool room owers, story tellers anybody related with pool.thank you guys and gals!

Nicest- Luc Salvas. Nice to everyone, even "nobodies like me". (Got a laugh out of watching a matchup with "Hillbilly" Bryant a few years ago at the BCAs in Vegas. Luc plays so fast he breaks the rack a mini-second after Charlie pulled the rack up and it so annoyed "Hillbilly" he was muttering about it hours afterwards sitting in the bleachers.)

nicest = Efren

meanest = Hubert Cokes aka Daddy Warbucks (never met him (too young to have) but read and heard enough that I'm glad I didn't)

Best,
Brian kc

Maybe somebody should start a thread about Hubert Cokes. I never met him, and it may seem like a distinction without a difference to some, but my impression from reading about him is he was tough rather than mean.

He was known to have a lot of money and when he ran into trouble he was able to handle it himself either with his fists or a gun. I think it was Freddy who said Cokes and Fats were the two guys at the Jansco brothers events who were most generous when it came to helping out the players who went broke and needed a walking stick.

He is definitely an interesting character.

Not "so nice": same BCA (2005). I was so looking forward to watching ES for the first time and he arrives right on time for his loser's side match with Matlock, no time for warmups, and he barely tried, sulking in his chair as Matlock cruised. It was a treat, however, watching Matlock for the first time.

I have met plenty of nice guys and gals playing pool-
#1 vietme=Samiel
#2 Famous Amos Bush
The baddest was the old drunk who yelled ouy my one signature line

On a sad note , Jane is still around , but Tommy passed last January . The room reminded her too much of her son's death , so she got out of the business . . . :( [/COLOR][/I]

Tommy Brown was the nicest professional player I was ever around. He and I played out of the same room in Miami for about 5 years. Didn't act like he was anything special but was a great talent and would share his knowledge with you.

All time favorite person I ever met in a poolroom...Steve Ferraro (aka Vodoo Daddy). Would give you the shirt off his back. We met in 1983 and he has remained one of my closest friends ever since.

Since no one has mentioned him, I will. Mike Zuglan was considered a real gentleman and nice guy for years around the North East before he started his tour. Some of the best and some of the worst here on AZ.

Yes he is

My list of both the nice and naughty in pool are extensive, but three of the nicest are Bill Stock, David Vandenberghe and my boss Mark Griffin at CSI.

And no I'm not brown nosing, don't need to :)
