Observations about Meucci Cues

agree to disagree and visa/versa

Recently I sent an older shaft to Meucci for a ferrule replacement not knowing what to expect. I sent it regular postal mail as I live only a few hours from the new Mississippi location and I figured I wouldn't hear from them for a few weeks. 2 days after I sent it I get a call from Meucci to get the $30 payment and to let me know it's done and they will ship out the same day! I don't think it gets much better than that for turnaround.

Another aside. At Meucci they pronounce the name mee-oo-chi, not moo-chi as I've always heard. Anybody heard it pronounced that way?
as far as their name it was always pronounced mu-chi here by bangers, noobs and nits!!I always said mee-YOU-chi!!

I know Im fairly new around AZB and not many really know me so my facts and opinions may not count for much buuuut,,

In the 80's and 90's I did so many deals on Meucci cues, repairs, cue related items there's no way possible to count them all!!Good/Bad/Ugly and even Great!!!!and Im talking several thousands of $ per year for over 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!

Back then their customer service was second to NONE!!!!and every cue they made played GREAT!!!!you could get an Oldie with steel joint and open wrap(I had them all)change the ferrule/tip the day you got it and they played as good as ANY cue you could buy!(and still do!!!)and spend just under $600!!or you could get a european plain jane for just $140 and wear that sucker out for 20 years and go through 5 ferrules and 50 tips

Then sometime, someone there decided they no longer cared if we bought a cue from them OR if I needed to send $1k worth of repairs in!(if I did it could take up to 2 YEARS to get them back!!!!!) OR if I needed only to purchase an extra shaft, set of the original joint protectors(only purchased through them then)or any other item they sold!!They WOULD NOT even answer the darned phone!!!!!This is my main reason for getting into doing cue repair, and I will NOT take in a trade for a Meucci unless its a pristine ''ORIGINAL" cue even on a $75 piece of junk!!!

In conclusion:do I think they care about any of this????NO!!!
Will I ever buy, send repairs or even tell someone to?????NO FRICKIN WAY!!!!!!!!

I do however ''HOPE'' they are getting things straightned out and wish the entire Family and crew the best of the best.......

They did a great job

By the way, the did a great job on my shaft. They replaced the ferrule and tip and cleaned up the shaft removing all dings and scuffs. It's as good as new.

I'm EXTREMELY pleased with their service, good to see them taking care of their customers so quickly and professionally.

Moving back to OLIVE BRANCH from SLEDGE will facilitate higher customer service/quality potential because of a more literate work force.:)

Bob Meucci says it "Myoochee."

A friend of mine (both of us from "Newawlins") says it Myoot-see.

I have a Meucci Ultra Piston 4 (one of the first made in production) with a matching Predator Z2 shaft. (BTW, the picture on the web site is in fact MY cue, I can tell from the veining in the shells.)

Although I am not a great player, I am very happy with the quality and the play. I am thinking my next cue will be a plain jane (the PP demo, maybe?) with a 314 shaft.

Not wild about the 5/16 x 18 pin. Too slow to screw on.

Borrowing a line from golf, I think the "butt is for show, the shaft is for dough."

Buy a butt you think looks sharp and a shaft you think performs well. Cheers!

unless they improve their quality i really couldn't care what people call 'em. every one i've run into that wasn't a meucci original had more flaws than i care to pay for

You must be running into all those 'seconds' that should have been burned. The ones from the factory seem pretty tight to me. Meucci has always been popular in the south, guess cuz the factory is here, and I see many, many Meucci's. Not only do they look good, they play pretty well too.

I say mewchee. Rhymes with dew at first then like the beginning of cheese. I love Meuccis but a lot of people I talk to hate them.

My first cue that I paid over $100 for was a Meucci. There is a funny story behind it......

I stopped by my local room one night to pick up a buddy. The room was called Elite Billiards in Worcester MA. Elite was in a pretty bad part of town (like all good pool rooms) and I parked my car outside for just a minute and forgot the cue was on the back seat. Because I was young and didn't have much money I didn't have a case so it was just laying there for all to see.
I was in the pool room for no more than 5 minutes and I came outside to find that one of my windows in my car was broken. Fearing the worst, I ran to the car expecting to find that my Meucci had been stolen. To my surprise, someone left another Meucci right next to it on the seat!

I have a soft spot in my heart for Meucci cues-- my very first cue was a Meucci Original that happened to be a freak of nature. I always hear about Meucci's hitting like crap and I never understood it because my cue felt like an extension of my arm - with perfect harmonics.

Later on, I played with other Meuccis and I couldn't believe how bad they felt to me -- nowhere near my Meucci Original. As a matter of fact, I played with other Meucci Originals and they weren't the hottest either. I think I stumbled upon a freak-of-nature Meucci that just happened to be perfect.

I lost it, like many others, in a poker game.

ITEMS THAT NOW RIP DUE TO POKER:

Brand new un-hit Titleist DCI irons (went straight from my car to the other guy's car - never hit)
My old meucci orig.

Hilarious. That was a very funny story. I am going to steal that ok?

Bad joke

Sure man, help yourself. It was just a joke anyway to accentuate that Meuccis are so bad people don't steal them, they give them to you! Lol.

And a bad joke at that. Why do all these people have high or low opinions of brands of cues when they aren't good enough to beat most good players using a broomstick? There are plenty of guys around here wielding Meucci's who would beat you bad enough that you would probably give up the game for good and retire to golf. Maybe you got some good golf clubs joke?

I have heard it pronounced May-ooch-ee

Wow...

Just my 2 cents...

One of my 6's in APA has a Meucci.
One of my 7's in APA has a Schon.
One of my 6's in APA has a McDermott.
ME (a 6) in APA has a Custom Jim Pierce cue ($350.00).

And we are all good. Best cue for the player is how I always see it.

:)

Sorry, no golf jokes. This post is funny because I know very few really good players that play with one. I love the fact that just because I'm kind of a cue snob (it's ok, I admit it and I'm on a 10 step program), you just assume I'm not a player. I'm sure you know what they say about assuming. Lol.

A little background on me. I've been playing seriously for 20 years. I've managed a billiards store. I've started/run several local leagues as well as served as a working house pro. As I worked my way up the ranks, I've won tournaments at every level except an open and I've placed in those. I don't tell you any of this to stick out my chest and brag. I only mention this so you have a clear understanding that I'm not talking out of my ass.

Anyone who knows anything about custom cues will tell you how bad Meucci's are. The construction is crap, the wood used in most of them would be used as firewood in a decent custom makers shop, all the rings/inlays are cheap plastic and the taper on the shafts is so long you could use it as a fishing pole. If they were any good at all they would hold their value on the secondary market. But as we all know, they don't. Try selling one here and let me know how that works out for you.

While I will agree that a good player can play with almost anything, why would a good player want to play with a Meucci when there are so many other better options? There are only a few reasons why people play with a Meucci.

1. They can't afford anything (custom) else. Everyone has a budget and there's nothing wrong with that. But what I mean by this is that if you can afford a Meucci for $500, you're not going to be able to get a decent custom with the amount of inlays/points that you can in a Meucci for the same price. People who know the difference would rather play with a custom PJ or sneaky. A lot of times I see players buy a Meucci because they seem like a great deal for the money. Well that and most rooms don't have a huge selection of custom cues because of the cost involved in keeping them in stock. A $500 Meucci is offered to dealers for $250 so there is room for them to make a nice profit.

2. They don't know any better. Seriously, I'm not trying to be stuck up here but try this the next time you're playing in your local 8 ball league. Hand a low or mid level player a Meucci that sells for around $500 and a PJ custom that sells for the same money or even better a nice well made sneaky pete. Ask him if he had to buy one of them for the same price ($500) without having a chance to play with them, which would he buy? I guarantee they pick the Meucci every time just based on the looks. The $500 Meucci has points and inlays etc. so it looks to the average player like it's a better deal.

I'm sorry if this post seems angry. It isn't meant to be but you should know who you are flaming before you attack them.

Oh, and for the record, I'm a 4 handicap in golf so you can try your luck at that too if you like. :p

Get 'em. You told him. His comment was very sny not yours. I knew it was a joke. I have a special place in my heart for Meuccis because my dad played with an original for the last 25 years or so. I now own that cue and a very old Meucci sneaky.

Why do people lack a sense of humor? Go to www.google.com and type in George Carlin or William Abbott. What you will likely find is called a joke-look it up for the definition. Read some and try to understand them and maybe your outlook on life will improve.

One more thing, I can not afford the cheapest Fiat or the most expensive Porsche, but I know the difference.

I've never found a Meuucciiee cue tht I liked. That's just me.

I prefer D. Stanhope when it comes to comedy.

It was meant to be a joke and you're right, some people just don't have a sense of humor.

The older Meucci's I liked as well. I'm talking about cues from 25 years ago though. Somewhere along the line they decided to start using crappy components and throwing them together too quickly. It's too bad really because they do have a few designs I think are kinds cool.
