Like I mentioned earlier in this old thread... CubC has action against the 9 ball ghost on any day that ends in Y. :D

Good shooting Andy! But you're disqualified for showboating on the hill with the three rail draw on the eight ball. An unnecessary violation of the player code of conduct.

Busted!

Good stuff, Andy!

I am working on trying to get some videos up in the next month or two. I will more than likely put some up of the 12 ball ghost. John Schmidt got me started on that a few years ago and I think it's a fairer test with the 3 extra balls, and the break is really not kind to you at all. It's also a better practice tool (JMO).

I'm also going to try to get a good 14.1 run on tape. Lately I have been stuck between runs of 56 and 70, which is frustrating. IMO, with the way I have been shooting lately, I could really use a few days with Stan Shuffett.

RunoutalloverU, you posted recently:
"I tried to stay an SL 3 but they moved me to a 4."

But you rated urself a G10?

No comprendo. (just an observation)

Racking odd number of balls.

How do you rack 5 balls? Or 7 Balls? Or 11? Or 13?

I would think you would just add a ball to one side or the other on the back of the stack. Like:

___1___
__2_3__
___4_5_

Or:

___1___
__2_3__
_4_5_6_
____7__

Would this be correct?

Gregg,

This is one of my favorite drills. I became obsessed with this drill about 8 years ago. I used to do sets of 50 "3 ball outs". I averaged about 47 out of 50. I've done this drill for 10 hours straight several times. It took me several hundred sets (yes that many!) before I finally scored that elusive 50 out of 50.

I did not allow myself to ever start a set over if I missed early.

It is an excellent drill to improve your position play. And concentration too - at least when you get to where you get out over 90% of the time. I usually missed for no specific strategy reason. If I ever wavered on what to do, I'd write down the layout and try it 20 times a couple different ways til I convinced myself which was the easiest way out.

When I was first learning, I used to 2 ball outs. You've really got to focus to get 100 out of 100 when you're just becoming a run-out player.

This is awesome, one of the best things I've ever read here. Lets forget about more instructionals for a while and figure out how to package some of Andy's respect, dedication & determination!

I did this for the first time during some practice sessions, on a pretty tight pocket table. I was able to beat the 6 ball ghost fairly well, and was pretty much tied with the 7-ball one. 8 or 9 I usually end up losing.

The good news for me is I find when I lose the games it's on a small margin, the shots I should make and do and clear lay-outs runs are working much better than a few months ago. What gets me is rolling out of position by 1/2 inch and getting hooked behind a ball, or a rattle miss. Not nearly as many wide misses that I used to get.

On this 3 ball out drill, do you rack 'em and break? BIH?

I don't know if I wanna try this drill... It sounds addictive! Thanks Andy (I guess)

For those that Pm'd me asking me how to rack for 12 ball -

Thanks Joe! Once you "package" it up, I might have to buy some of it back! It's been a few years since I've had that drive.

I really think this 3 ball drill is the best way to improve your ghost rating. A player with a 5-ball ghost rating can play 6 ball ghost for months before comfortably beating it. I think the 3 ball drill will get you there more quickly.

KoolKat,

I don't rack the 3 balls on this drill. I throw out 3 balls and then throw out 3 more to make them bounce around randomly. Then I remove the lowest 3 balls from the table and take BIH. It makes for a more random spread.

I don't rack because I want to practice position play and focus. Breaking in 3 ball is only a little helpful in improving your break stroke. I wouldn't consider this drill the 3 ball ghost because in the ghost, you should break and have the advantage of making a ball on the break here and there.

50 out of 50 is tough. You may want to start with 10 out of 10 and move to 20 out of 20, etc.

Andy

Thanks again Andy.

<throws 6 balls to the corner pocket 50 times in a row> ;)

I will definitely try it next chance. And also the ghost. I'd like to see where I "rate". If I do the 8 ghost... Do I rack a 9 ball rack without the last ball (no ball on the "tail"). If I make the 8 legally, but out of turn, is that a win (like you did with the 9 on your impressive youtube G9 Andy)?

I beat the G6 about 5 months ago and know that I am a better player now - hoping I am a G8 like I so quickly pumped into the poll before knowing it was public!

Damn, I love this forum. My business is going into the crapper but hell if my game ain't gettin' better.

Yep, 8 ball rack just leaves the last ball off the back. Most people play that the money ball counts no matter when it legally goes in including the break.

Keep at it! 7 and 8 ball ghosts are a crossing point into being a top regional tour player. I'd estimate that on a typical regional tour (say the Tiger Pool Tour)...

33% think they can beat the 9 ball ghost
15% really can

Be skeptical.

You would be surprised at how much I really care about any of that.

Who are you anyway - and why must I care about your skepticism? What makes you so special?

I'm just wondering what is fueling your superiority complex.

You must be quite a player, right?

Will you be posting any video of yourself? Doubtful.

You're too busy hiding your real identity. So let's be honest with each other.

I couldn't care less about you or what you post here. Post away. Say whatever you like. I take comfort in the fact that you don't have the balls to say it to my face. So... until you say any of this to my face, then IMO you're just some internet troll, basically a little bytchy whiney coward. The difference between you and I, is I'll say this directly to your face and back it up. If you doubt that, then you are much dumber than you sound.

When the videos are posted, I'll let you know. Until then, quit spamming my PM box with this nonsense. I'll delete any future messages without reading.

oh.. and btw... don't pretend like we don't know each other.
;)

The difference iz that I never said I could beat the 10 ball ghost. U DID. Since U made the claim, iz it so wrong 2 say "prove it??"
