Old school Hopkins vs. Rosas match

Thanks man!!

That was a fun match to watch. I used to run around Upland California with Ron's Cousin Rod Rosas - if your out there Rod here is a shout out to ya!

Something nostalgic about watching them play back in the 80s on the Gold Crown with slow cloth. I miss that era - good times!

Based on Jay's hair I would say this is late 80s and not the 70s.

Yeah, I recall just before the IPT King of the Hill tourney in 2005 that the old timers all suggested that the return to the nappy cloth would present a problem for the current generation of players and give the old timers an advantage. They couldn't have been more wrong. Every BCA Hall of Famer was guaranteed at least a $30,000 payday and not one of them made more than the money they were guaranteed just for showing up.

would be nice to see the finals sigel vs hopkins!!

The finals was Sigel vs. David Howard. I produced those three matches and still sell DVD copies on my website. I have long since quit trying to keep them off of Youtube. You can check it out at jayhelfert.com.

At 9:16 Hopkins hits a tough bank and someone said "Howd he hit it?"
I did not know that expression was that old. As far as I know it could be older.

Yeah, it's older than 1987. Also, I wasn't aware that there was a difference between scratching in a pocket and the cueball flying off the table.
I was playing back then and I remember all balls being spotted and cueball anywhere in the kitchen. Jay said and cueball off the table meant ball in hand anywhere.

That one had me wondering also. That rule may result in a player taking a little off his break shot.
