No sure, but I think the record at the DCC 1Pocket Challenge was set back in '09 by Gabe Owens. I believe he made 60 balls in five tries, but don't hold me to that.

That one might hold up for a while.

Lou was that 60 balls with out a miss or do you get some many racks and count total balls from each?

You crack them open with a solid break to one side and shoot from there until you miss. Then you rack them and go again another four times. IF you get a good spread AND the CB lands somewhere for decent start you can run a few. I know there were a lot of 50's.

So there's probably not a record for most made without a miss I'm guessing.

I witnessed 25 straight. 7 to finish one game. He broke making a ball next and ran 8 and out. Then the opponent broke, he made a bank and ran 8 and out again. 25 with no miss for the cash.

What i was wondering about was what Cj done.(the whole rack)

I'm going to guess not. Though there have been numerous cases of repeated and consecutive 8 and outs.

I think most capable 1pocket players have run a few 15 and outs (I've done it, like maybe four times) but that's usually a case of running 8, the remaining balls being wide open, and the other guy saying, "See if you can get them all." I'm sure that the uber-stars of the game giving up monster spots have run all 15 (and more) for the dough, but I'm unaware of "a record" per se.

Would be interesting to see someone just dump two trays of balls on the table (GENTLY man~ GENTLY) and then take BIH and see if they can get 'em all. That would be stronger than just running two racks in a row, with all the traffic.

I think that was the one pocket ghost contest.

One pocket ghost is a different game than what most think about when you talk about one pocket. The break the balls pretty open, just trying not to get too much up table. Then they run as many as they can in the one hole before they miss. The total score after 5 tries is your score.

75 is a perfect score, so Gabe did very well. I recall a few higher scores though. I witnessed 2 perfect 75's at the BCA trade show back when it was in Charlotte. They were on a diamond 7 foot too. I'm not sure if that makes it easier or harder, but it was great to watch.

Giving up a spot, I broke and made a ball on the break and ran what I needed and my opponent said to keep shooting. I ran all 15 and then made a ball on the next rack and continued to ran 14 balls and missed an easy shot on the last ball. So I ran 29 without a miss.

I thought making a ball on two back to back breaks was the lucky part.

Royce, 1pocket on a 7 footer?! ack.

I agree that the 1pocket Challenge/ghost is different, but usually when a guy grabs a big run during a game it's when the balls are loose early on and haven't been pushed up table, so I'm not sure how much different.

i saw jersey red run 15 and he made it look easy..cant remeber the game after that but it was like it wasnt a big deal to him...the way he moved was something special..

That was a fairly common proposition years ago.I won a ton of cash getting guys to bet on like 18 or 20 in 5 racks. It just sounds easy you just have to average 4 or 5 balls a rack but it is really hard to beat. You can do it a few times but you will go bust if you try playing it all day. Danny D. when he was playing his best could do 27 fairly consistently but still not enough to win. He would just stay around even.

I have bet on thousands of racks and here is why it is so hard. It is the last rack that beats you, that is when you need to get to your number. Out of the five racks you would be surprised how many time you only get 1, 2, or ever 0. You can go into the last rack still needing like 10 or 12 balls to win. I watched Weenie Beanie lose like $10,000 trying to do 25. He looked good for the a few hours but 18 hours later the number caught up with him. It is funny, you can win money from good local players with them going as low as 12 to 15. They can't believe they can't do it, at least not often enough to win the money.

It is a lot of fun to pass the time in a pool room with that proposition, everyone wants to get into the act and the suckers will line up. If you are the one covering the bet you will win money. I almost got killed with this proposition once. I was betting against a guy named David Sizemore, not sure of the spelling of his name. I didn't really know him and I had him stuck for $1200. with him trying to make 13 balls. At a point he began dogging it so bad he was missing the first ball, he could not have made 8 at that point. I am not going into all the details but if not for Sugar shack Johnny I would have had a knife in my chest.

I wanna thank macguy for the proposition.

It is indeed tough. Told a buddy I'd pay for time if he could hit 20, but let's just say I coulda made it 10 and I'd be covered. Easy to put up a zero if you don't know the correct way to break this. Even Mika seemed to waffle between a traditional break and blasting 'em.

I tried this at Derby several years ago and I averaged about 2-4 a rack (yeah, I suck)... so I might try a bet of 15 in 5 racks... :p

I heard that when the "5-rack 1P shootout" first came to San Francisco, lots of people lost at 20. Varner went to 35 or so depending on the table. I've heard that Hopkins could go to 40. I've also heard of a 72 in practice on a 9-foot table.

will take 5 tries to run all 15 in one pocket too if anyone's interested

Yeah, I've beat 40 a few times at my pool room and will take 5 tries to run all 15 in one pocket too if anyone's interested. There's a "trick" to it. ;)
