Someone named Ray Andrew has filed a dispute on Paypal claiming I owe him $500. The date of the alleged transaction is July 28, 2009. I've never heard of the guy and have definitely never done any business with him. The money has been removed from my account and placed on hold.
I've never had a problem like this before on Paypal. The guy is obviously a scammer. I have sent an e-mail to Paypal stating exactly what I said above. Does anyone have any other suggestions for me? Thanks.
Well, I am glad to know that you did not click the link in the e-mail to reply. There are so many scams out there with PayPal. Years ago, pre PayPal, I had X-dot-com, which was the first of its kind to pay via Internet. It later became PayPal.
There were so many scams, I closed my account and never looked back. It's no good, that PayPal.
With that said, a lot of people in my industry who don't have a merchant account to accept credit card payments used to use PayPal to get paid from each other. For example, if somebody hired a proofreader, the proofreader would usually want to be paid via their PayPal account.
After PayPal instituted their monthly fees for some accounts, everybody who used PayPal was in an uproar about it.
Now they are using a new system to get paid, and believe it or not, it is much better than PayPal. Banks today are offering "Dial Pay." There is no monthly minimum, and it costs $9.95 a month and 3 percent on each transaction. There is no PCI fee at all.
Though it is more expensive than PayPal, the people in my industry seem to like it much, much better. The 3 percent and $9.95 isn't that much to sacrifice for peace of mind. Plus, it's tax deductible.
Contact your bank and see if they have a "Dial Pay" system. You may be able to find out more about it than what I have shared. I'm just relaying what has been shared with me.
Close your PayPal account after this fiasco settled and find a different method for payment, Jay.
