Received this Email today-I am sure its phony but the final pitch seems to be left out-maybe ill get a follow-up.

"I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,my fam and I came down here to Dorset United Kingdom for a short vacation unfortunately we were mugged at the park of the hotel where we stayed,all cash,credit card and cell were stolen off us but luckily for us we still have our passports with us.

We've been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all and our flight leaves couple of hrs from now but the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills.

Am freaked out at the moment.....

Most common scam out there.

This is the part that always makes me laugh, I have never stayed in a hotel that I could not just get up and walk out of it whether the bill was paid or not. These people make it sound like they got chain link fence at the front door.

same here. Along with that I got a possible scam warning (thanks Gmail!) Hopefully Alf chimes in and confirms he's all right.
 
Up Date. Alf has contacted me and asked that I collect the donations for him and I will forward it to the UK for him.

Lets not let Alf rot in Jolly Old England for Christmas. Lets bring him on home.

Alf has no money for Christmas dinner and he hates Tea and Scrumpets. Can't live on that crap.
 
I sent Alf a personnal check for $25,000 more than he needs, just waiting fo him to send me the difference in cash.
 
Yeah, I got the same thing from him as well. I was just about to post it before I saw this thread. I assume he has my email from when I bought his book. Obviously a scam, and I hope he gets it figured out soon.
 
I got one too. I wonder if Alf is touring the UK on his bicycle? :smile: Hope he chimes in so we know he is OK.

How exactly other than Western Union are you going to get any money to someone in London to pay the hotel? Presumably you are supposed to send cash because the hotel could simply take a credit card over the phone....

And if Western Union how should they get the money since they aren't the person they purport to be?

This scam is one of the dumber ones out there I think. One big reason is that by sending it out to everyone you insure that 99% of the receivers will check with someone else to find out what's happening before sending any money to anyone in any way.

And as mentioned, today's from Alf's email even forgot to ask for the money.
 
Last year

The same e mail went out last year but using Don Suremans name of Sure-Man cues.He told me that someone hacked into his e mail and he had to go thru a lot of trouble getting his e mail secured again.Do not reply anything to those.

I got the same e-mail from King Richard II, but I wasn't fooled because I knew that six hundred years ago, Dorset was known as Dorsetshire.

You are right about this scam. What pool hustler (or former) would admit to having "tears in my eyes" unless he were playing SVB
