Pool Wars by Jay Helfert

Yep, that's the man. He is still alive and playing from time to time at Airway. In his 70's now. When I was there in the 60's and 70's Dino was in his prime, but still no threat to George Rood. No one was, not even Joey Spaeth.

It was a great read, I went cover to cover, and enjoyed every word. Looking forward to your next one. I'll leave you some i-trader luv too.

The suggestion was made to me in San Diego about putting Pool Wars on a CD, with me telling the story. That way you can "hear" the book while you're riding in your car or a plane or whenever. What do you think? Who likes that idea?
I think that would be a great idea Jay - if you did impressions of the players' voices when quoting them, and did the narration using the voice of Stewey Griffin.

The last of the March orders went out today. I will be starting on orders received in April tomorrow. I am on #382 of 500 now. Quite a few books have gone out unnumbered to dealers etc.

Fine, but who's Stewey Griffin?

He's the funniest.

Finally

I sent a rough draft (95% complete) to Joey for him to review. To date, he is the only person who has read this. I still have work to do to get it done, and then I have to find a printer/publisher to put it in book form. Freddie is helping me with this.

My goal once again is to have copies ready by DCC. I don't know how realistic that is, but that's my estimated ETA. By the way, thanks Joey for the nice review. I'm glad you like it. I feel the second half of the book is stronger than the first. Better stories!

Good for you Jay. There are few people in our world that knows the info and can put it into realistic worlds like you. I am looking forward to hearing more of what you have shared with me over the past 20 years.

Another note, I am sure you and Joey A are exhausting all possible scenarios for the best way to release the book. For what it is worth, you can transfer just about any writing program, Word, text writing, etc. to Pagemaker or Quark, but here is a new program that is superior. It is Adobe InDesign. It is very easy to work with and the quality is excellent.

Best to you. say hi to everyone down south.

Jay: Have you considered (or done already?) shipping some books to the biggest newspapers or/and bloggers?

If the newspaper like it, they will write about it. If it is as good as everyone says, maybe it will be "Book of the week" or something ;) Maybe you need to hire a Filipina to do the shipping for you!

One of the most visited bloggers in Norway receives free stuff all the time, and then writes his personal opinion on the products, with info how to buy it. He is honest, and sometimes he says "it's crap, but if you still want it buy it here". There must be lots of bloggers like that in America too.

Maybe Stewie Griffin should be seen reading a copy of POOL WARS by Jay Helfert on Family Guy.

Does anyone have an email address for Seth MacFarlane? If so, please send it via PM.

Thanks,

JoeyA

hey Jay, hooray-hooray, I received the book today!
122/500, now it makes me guessing if you meant smth special by picking this number for me ;) I didn't read a word so far but I managed to browse through all the pictures. They are nice to look at, and I was especially thrilled by that of Rempe (p.96) bending the rest! I wonder if it used to be that soft or just couldn't resist Jim's tension :)
Shipped March 28 and arrived April 6, rocket speed for shipping from the US to RF. Normally takes up to 20 days. Must be First Class mail working good.

Like someone else here, I will have to wait until I have enough time to sit and swallow the whole volume at one bite. So please don't tell me here who the murderer is :grin-square:

The butler did it!
I ship thru the main post office so that alone saves a day or two. And I send it Priority First Class overseas, and they guarantee 10 business days. Glad you got it okay. I'm always worried about overseas orders.

Thanks, Jay! Can hardly wait for it to arrive. I'll start to check the mailbox tomorrow ... ... I wonder which # I'll get ...

I finished Pool Wars last night. I really enjoyed all of the stories and am just a little jealous of the life you lead and the elbows you've rubbed.

My favorite story was the one where you played 14.1 while your brother watched.

Great book, Jay, and I hope you sell more copies than the printer can keep up with.

Glad you liked it. Don't anyone think for a minute I was a Straight Pool player, because I wasn't! I just happened to get hooked into a game with the Florida U. champ that day. My brother was in Med School there, and I was visiting him.

Payment sent and looking forward to a great read, Jay!! :) Hope I am in time for a signed copy......

my 4 copies

Great read. Brought back many memories, my friends agree. Btw i've stakehorsed navy gary in a few games, all worked out o.k. Also know the goose and his son and have done business with both. Thanks for a great book. chuck
