It seems that I simply enjoy trying out new tools of the trade.

A recent product that caught my attention was the Pro Shot Glove. I read some limited information about the product and was intrigued.

I received the Pro Shot Glove yesterday which is made by Great Billiards Inc. (www.greatbilliards.com)

After reading the disclaimer which included a few warnings about some people having allergies to latex products and the uses of the Pro Shot Glove, I dove right in.

This is a pool training aid. Most people who have an unintentional wrist curl could benefit immensely from using this device. I can see how players who have a little lateral movement in their wrist could benefit immediately from wearing the glove. Contrary to my initial reaction after reading the Disclaimer, the glove was comfortable to wear, even though it restricted the side to side motion of my wrist.

It comes with velcro straps in different configurations which are adequately depicted in the Instructions however the photos used could have been of higher resolution. Still, I had no trouble attaching the Pro Shot Glove to my stroking hand.

I was a little apprehensive about wearing it for extended periods of time because of the disclaimer but decided I would give it a fair shot and so I wore and played with the glove for approximately two hours, practicing different shots.

The Pro Shot Glove gives additional stability to your wrist and I didn't feel abnormally restricted while wearing it. I was able to make the same shots with the same consistency as usual and there were times when I started believing that it actually helped my accuracy but that was on long power shots where I have a natural tendency to twist my wrist outside or inside. It seemed that I was able to make more power shots with the glove but I didn't record any statistics to subtantiate that.

Tonight I plan to use the glove in our weekly handicapped tournament and see how I play with it.

This glove has been tested and used by professional players and been given a thumbs up. I give the glove a thumbs up and will see how I do tonight.

For the record, this is not a cheaply designed glove. This glove reminds me of some of the high end orthopedic devices on the market.

If you are inclined to have some unwanted lateral movement in your wrist, this is definitely the product for you.

I've heard people complain for YEARS about their inability to produce a straight stroke and I know that lateral wrist movement is one of the main culprits. Besides the adjustable velcro straps and comfortable glove the product utilizes a set of comfortably housed, small pieces of lightweight metal which helps keep the wrist in line. BTW, the glove did not appear to have any effect on my forward and backward natural motion of my stroking hand.

Much more information is available about this product and you can even register for a chance at a free 3 hour pool lesson and dinner with the ICEMAN, Mika Immonen by clicking here.

Hope you enjoyed the JoeyA HEADS-UP and we'll see you on the tournament trail.

Mika doesn't just push this product, he uses it! Everytime I see him at the bar, he's wearing it.

looks like a bowling wrist brace, I have used one a few times while playing pool and it most definately works. With a simple bowling wrist brace (prolly not as fan-tapulous as this gizmo) you can absolutely tell if your are out of alignment... tendency is that if you line up slightly off, you compensate with your wrist slightly somewhat "uncontiously" correcting your stroke or "steering" the cue a bit on your final stroke... when you have a brace on your wrist you can feel yourself correcting... bet this thing does exactly what it says it does, wonder what the cost is?

Joey,

Things like this belong on the main forum too in my opinion but you might see if they want a copy of your post in the product review section if you didn't cross post it there already.

Excellent review, a little postscript after tonight's win would round it out nicely. You do realize you have to win to round out the report don't you? :D

Hu

PS for those that don't know. 52 players in Buffalo's Tuesday night free tourney last week and Buff hands out some brutal handicaps to Joey playing most of his opponents. He has to work very hard to come out on top.

Thanks for the review. Can't wait to see how much it helps in your tournament

How did you get one Joey.. I see they are not available yet.. I am anxious to try one as I have always battled this issue.

alright, write gullible on my forehead and tell me where to buy one. I've been 100% against training devices, but this one has sparked my intrest. I'd have to say the big difference is it isn't some system trying to teach new tricks. Rather a product to fix bad habits and build muscle memory. I might even buy two, one for me and one for the wife.

I'm really intrested in my wife using one. I bet this thing will be the biggest confidence builder for a low C/D level player that absoultly refuses to hit a shot hard because they miss so much.

Who would sign up to be on a list for one w/o knowing the price? Johnnyt

The list just let's you know when they are available.. It does not mean you have to buy one, not written in blood!:D I would for one!

Interesting product..looks sort of like a carpal tunnel wrist support mixed with a bowling wrist brace. Maybe it can be used for all three. Any Pool Playing, Bowling, computer people here? Doh what everywhere on this site?...damn.....Just kidding.

I think if it takes the curl out of someone's stroke it could very well from the proper ergonomic positioning and lateral limitations it puts on the wrist may also limit sideways elbow motion to help get rid of chicken-winging shots too. Would have to try it to know for sure. Maybe this thing is worth getting on a list for. I know some people that pray daily for things like this.

MoJoe,
You can go to their website and register and when it becomes available, they will notify you.

PoolN8R,

I now see why the manufacturer put out some disclaimers. I decided that I wanted to really cinch up the glove and make it really tight on my hand and I did. :embarrassed2: There are quite a few pieces of velcro that really hold well and after I had my new tighter glove in place, it felt like I had a cast on my wrist. It wasn't long after that when I needed to loosen it up quite a bit. If a knuckle head tightens up the straps too tight and then decides to do some yard work, that knuckle head could possibly cause some strain on the fingers, wrist, forearm and hand. :D

Your're right Hu. With 52 players in last week's tournament and it getting bigger every week and the fact that I have to give up weight to practically everyone I play, it kind of makes the job of getting to the winner's circle, well, kind of difficult. :D

I am very anxious to see people with serious wrist issues wearing this device. I'm very curious to see if it will immediately change their game for the better.

The Pro Shot Glove is well made and is not a cheaply made training device. The other thing I am very curious about is if you can wear this glove all of the time, while playing pool or if it should be used primarily to correct wrist problems.

I played a race to 9 with Sam the Barber earlier today with the Pro Shot Glove and won 9-5 so it hasn't hurt me.

Come visit Buff's some time and win some of that FREE MONEY. In addition to the free 9 ball touranment on Tuesday nights, the 10 ball jackpot is up to $50 a ball. Make all ten balls and you win $500. :woot:

No matter how many disclaimers , some knuckleheads will think tighter is better and start wearing the glove 24/7 At least I would give it Sundays as a day of rest.

nice product JoeyA, I loved it. i have a bad habbit to twist my hand after the shot which result in me missing them, I just filled the application hopefully I can get a bunch of gloves shipped to me in Kuwait :>
