Shane beat Johnny in the finals of the Reno Open in 2007.

Other then the last TAR match, has Shane and Johnny matched up outside of a tournament before?

My understanding is that Archer gave SVB the 7 (9-Ball) at DCC (2004/5?) before he "burst" on to the seen ... JA won but said he should not have and it was a very bad game. (I believe this was discussed in one of he Archer TAR podcast.. not sure if it was the one with Shane there or not...)

After that there was an on-going diamond vs tight gold crown discussions but did not happen until the TAR match..

If Mike played CJ, I'll take Mike for a buck or two.

I didn't say he could beat or was better than Mike. I said it could not be any worse than the Dechaine horsef***ing. After 5-5, Shane won 22-6 and was up like 21-4. I am not woofing was just kidding around a little and meant no offense to Mike (although yes a little prodding).

I will gladly bet on CJ playing SVB if he is spotted 16 games in a race to 22. I am not asking for that, only clarifying what I said.

Your right, if SVB was 21 in '75 no one would have ever heard of Earl, or Sigel, or Varner or Hall or Rempe ... Johnny would have been the runner-up player of the decade and still be under review for the HOF..

Parica would have gone back home and told Efren "Don't go.. it's to hard.. you can't win.." There would have been a move to bar him from tournaments because of unfair competitive advantage... no one back then would have had the heart to gamble with him... (of course he may have refused to play because Sigel or Keith kept blowing smoke in is face...)

Unfortunately he would be about 59 now and someone on the "inter-web" would be talking about some shot maker with a big break and saying how SVB (the 59 year old version) would not stand a chance against the new guy on new equipment.. Even though he had beat the "new guy" on tight equipment, in a long race (it was rigid to take away his break... it wasn't that he was out played or anything)... but this new guy OH MAN just look at him go..

shane is great just read its everwere how good he is .he couldnt beat johnny in his prime on any table.

No, I know. But I think it could be worse.

CJ, I have been reading some of your posts but I don't think I have ever read anything that might indicate your abilities now. How are you hittin' em?

Of course I have seen video of you playing a long time ago and you were great. It would be so amazing and nice if you can still compete at the top again.

Regards

I think if CJ was playing like a champion today he would be the first to use that information for marketing purposes.

I am sure he is working on it though! It will be interesting to see if he can get it back. I wouldn't bet against him!

Archer and Strickland excelled during that time period and they're still considered two of the best American players. I'm including C.J. with them.

Right you are. Didn't Archer just shoot SVB down in a TAR match pretty recently?? So many people gave him no chance.

If Earl don't want SVB to win and doesn't quit on himself that's a great match. Being honest those are my favorite two to watch play cause Earl spins the rock and SVB is SVB. Get those two involved some kind of way and it would be great.

If CJ is back in stroke he'll play good pool too. CJ vs SVB is less appealing than like a CJ vs Shuff match or something like that. Set that one up.

Why has Brandon never been on TAR???

Wow nothing personal nb92! Just saying Shane is a great player as we're all the guys you mentioned. Efren being the greatest. People keep saying how the pockets need to be tighter, did anyone say that yesteryear? Nothing personal.

How about TOI vs CTE. CJ vs Brandon?

Like in another thread, I like a scotch double match. Get two old guard guys that match up well & let them pick their temmate from the new guys.

And like I said in that thead what about the females on TAR?

Are you joking ? I would absolutely bet against him. Boening is going to torture him worse than he did to Dechaine. I would absolutely bet against him.

Maybe this needs to get done more like boxing. One needs to earn that shot at the champ. Deshane just lost to SVB, so who ever can beat Mike deserves a shot at Shane. If CJ can beat Mike then a SVB match would not be out of line.

Pool needs some sort of a 'system' other than just letting schedule availability decide who plays when.

I think there should be a TAR match every 2 to 3 weeks. Maybe a Tournament type schedule. I know the logistics could get tough but I think it could be done. Who wants to sign up for the year long TAR Tournament on THE TAR table in the TAR studio/arena? Once you sign up, you play or forfeit & everyone thinks you ducked. Or if someone forfeits, a stand by takes his spot in the tournament. The 1st. 16 are in with an in lline stand by.

Just the unchecked top of my brain dumping out.

Reread what I posted...carefully. lol

At the Texas Open, CJ fared about as well as I would expect to. I feel I have a pretty good measure using the Texas Open as I have played against Chip and Joey on a few occasions and know exactly how they play. You know...the guys who finished 1 - 2 at the Texas Open!

That said....

If CJ gets back to the speed he was 20+ years ago, Chip and Joey wouldn't like it. Neither would most of the world...just like back then! lol

Good thread!

....

TAR kind of had something like that going in the best of 3 set 10-ball format ... as of TAR 31 the round robin record would be

Busty 2-0, Archer 1-1, Mike 1-1, Shane 1-2 and Hatch 0-1

Busty beat Shane and Archer (Mike and Hatch TBD)
Archer beat Shane and lost to Busty (Mike and Hatch TBD)
Mike beat Hatch and lost to Shane (Busty and Archer TBD)
Shane beat Mike and lost to Busty and Archer (Hatch TBD)
Hatch lost to Mike (Shane, Busty, Archer TBD)

If this played out my prediction would be:

Busty 4-0, Archer 3-1, Mike 1-3, Shane 2-2 and Hatch 0-4

but on "Any given Sunday..."
