If this was just a normal joe blow and not Dennis ,there would of been
fists flying.He must of been praying to tie the set,so he could do that.
I also don't think Rob settled on $150.00.To me settled means(happy with)which
I don't think he was or still is.
Dennis should be more thankful that he got to leave on his own accord.
To me,Rob did him a favor for a real shitty move.Dennis got lucky twice
that night.

One trait of a forum like AzBilliards is that a person's words as dissected so many different ways that they sometimes end up meaning the complete opposite of what was originally intended, and then everybody piles on with their thoughts. By the end of the thread, if it isn't deleted or closed, it's not even on point of the original topic.

The same can be said in any gathering place. I can imagine any guy who heard of this walked out of there ragging about how they "can't believe he welched on such a small bet"

Not much of a gambler but my understanding has always been, if you quit before the set is done,
that's a forfeit. Even if you're on the hill and the other guy has zero.

The other guy can usually be convinced to let it slide if it's an emergency, but not liking the game
or being bored or deciding you have other priorities... no way.

I probably should amend that to say "assuming the game is on the level".
I don't think the rules apply when one guy openly admits he hustled the other and
the whole set is just a charade.

How is it a misunderstanding when your told 3 times if you break your stick down and dont finish you forfeit. What is their to misunderstand about that? Why did he put his cue back together in 3 seconds once the money came down ready to play. If it was a misunderstanding and not a move why not leave your cue put away and come over and talk?

It seems to me he was under the impression he could quit if he got level - based on Jay Helfert's post it's happened to him before which is what gave him this idea. That, along with him waiting to get to 8-8 to quit, makes it seem a fairly logical explanation to me.

Nobody is saying he's not in the wrong (or at least they shouldn't be). But you settled for $150. Coming on here and *****ing about it continually just makes you look bad, in my opinion. You could both learn a lesson from this situation, in my opinion.

Played last night and was up a set. I'm up a measly $25. My opponent was upset because he could only break even becasue he said he had time for only 1 more set??? No.. you could raise the bet if you had the heart and take it all. I would love to play him for $200-300 a set, the window is wide open sir. He whines so much about it I said well since you can't decide I will let you off for $10 and time. Then he fights me over a $5 table bill!!!

I quit him to play a guy race to 9 for $100, I lose set 1. Set 2 I am getting shit from his friend who only talks when I am shooting. I miss a tough 8 ball to get down 7-6 and I am livid because I got off the ball twice because he won't STFU. I tell him to get the ___ out of there so I can play. Get down 8-6. I make a comeback 8-8 and win the last game because my opponent dogged the 7 ball. I run 3 ducks and now he's pissed at me because I broke even??? Why becasue you shot the 7 into the rail and choked?

Pool players, what can you say.

Quitting even in a race??? Look an APA 3 who's played a year know's this is wrong. It's not cultural either, it's chickenshit behavior. He's a lock artist pure and simple.

Depends on the circumstances. What he being sharked or cheated? There must have been a reason someone would suddenly dislike the game when tied at 8 apiece.

If he is being sharked or cheated then he should be able to pull out of the game.

I was there, and can tell you from where I was sitting it was with out a doubt a shark move.

After Rob pulled down the money he put his cue back together and said he wanted to finish. Rob did the right thing, there is no way anyone with any experience at all would have finished after that.

He didn't bring it up here. He was dragged into this forum basically. Since the subject had been brought up he was just venting IMO. I haven't liked DO since he quit the 14.1 against Eberle. Don't care how straight he shoots, he has never lost the street punk in him. I enjoyed watching him lose a grand live in 1p last night to Shane. Man he made a hell of a shot with the set ball hanging in Shane's pocket though. I know these guys are good but that was ridiculous. But he lost anyway a few minutes later.

He was not being sharked or cheated. He made a game and halfway through the set new he made a bad one.

I think 1on1pooltourneys may be right, I was thinking the same thing. I think Dennis may have been desperate and tried the move to see what would happen.

Sounds to me when a person is gambling anymore you need to have a gambling rule book.


1) Need to tell players no quitting until set is over.
2) Cant just call a bad hit when good hit to get out of set.
3) No checks only cash even if you are a million dollar player.
4) No bringing in the kids to say they need dippers wont have none if they lose.
5) If an American player pulled a move on year earlier in your pool life cant use it on the player to make yourself look good.
6) Ask the guy your playing if he is rested up before gambling so he can make sound decisions and your not taking advantage of a pro gambler.
7) Make sure the guy you are playing understands that his friends cant shark you while you are playing.

I am sure their are many more examples but these are a few that I have dealt with over the years and a few new ones I learned from this thread.

The don't behave this way because there isn't a "good woman" standing by them.

There isn't a "good woman" anywhere to be found around them exactly because they behave this way. Good women demand a bit more in life than that.

On the other hand there will never be a shortage of pathetic little hoochie ho's anxious to join in the behavior until the money's gone.

Your out of line. The game WAS on the level. Rob had to beat the 10ball ghost to win this game. Orcullo didnt think he could but he was wrong. Orcullo matched up bad. End of story. Hardly a "charade" when one player has to beat the ten ball ghost to win.
