Yes, I edited that he missed the bank and sold out, after you replied.

He'd looked at the shot for about a minute, trying to see if he could eek it in directly with some english without fouling. I'm sure his head was spinning at what had just happened, and this led to him fluffing the bank... quite badly actually... didn't touch the jaw.

i watched a lot of matches of this w9b tournament and these were the best 2 in it.

ko played great throughou the tournament as did svb. both great players and a pleasure to watch. looking forward for more action between thouse 2

It proves he has the common sense to not be perceived as being a bad loser.

I wouldn't be surprised if the word bakery came up in a few private conversations after the match.

The commentators got to the point of laughing about Ko's run of lucky rolls, saying, he's done it again numerous times.

And in the final rack he plays a poor shot on the 2. And you attack me when I say that Shane is not a great player. Efren - Francisco - Earl in their prime, would not make so many mistakes in a final.

Oh, I forgot..... it was all about Ko's luck !!!!!!!!!!!!

In Shane's 5 previous matches in this tournament he scored 55-14.

That's great playing! I would be surprised if anyone has had a run like that against a line up of World Class players.

Edit: I checked Ted Lerner's claim and Shane's last 5 matches pre-final was actually 55-15. (78.6%)
By way of comparison, Po Kin Yi won 55 to 39 (58.5%) and Wu Jia Qing won 54-36 (60%).
Orcollo was going at 33-10 (76.7%) before he ran into SVB and was drilled 11-1.
Baby Ko was 44-28 (61.1%) before encountering SVB.

And how many shots did Ko miss!? If Shane isn't that great of a player than neither are the top 10 finishers of this years tournament. Come to Texas and get the 7, probably doesn't take a great player to white the felt with you.

Ko played like a monster the entire tournament. He got a LOT of rolls in the final. Still, I think what set him apart from all the other players in the tournament was his amazing composure. In his match with Wu he was ice cold while facing considerable pressure. I was really impressed. Likewise in the match with Shane. A lot of people get sharked or distracted when they get lucky like that. He kept cool and capitalized on most of them. Even if Ko did make some mistakes, Shane made some mistakes also. It's not like Shane played flawlessly and got robbed....All in all it was entertaining, if not as good as the Wu/Ko match.

Ko has excellent mental game and that pulled him back from dead in so many matches in the past and in this tourney. He was down 2-6 to Wu so Wu broke his serve twice yet he came back. Some say that is better match than final so I must watch it. At this level you should only need to break serve once to win. So yes, he probably has the best mental game now :grin:

“When I won the World 10-ball in the Philippines, that was great,” Ko said. “But winning the World 9-ball Championship, this is unbelievable. I’m really happy because before I came to Doha I wasn’t playing that good. But I worked really hard on my game, especially my break shot.

“I definitely didn’t play per perfect in the final. But I played really good in the semi-final and of course that is more important because that got me to the final. I was 7-6 behind when Wu made one safety mistake, and after that everything changed.
“In the previous matches I was playing perfect, just like Shane, who is such a great player, a real gentleman. But it’s the final of the World 9-ball championship and you know so many things can happen. I think we both played good and both made some mistakes. I feel that I got a few lucky rolls to help me win the match. There was a lot of pressure especially from 8-8 on. But at the end of the match I played good and I am happy I was able to stay patient. You just never know in 9-ball. The ball is round and you have to wait until the last 9-ball drops.”

“He got a lot of fortunate rolls and he got lucky to hook me a couple of times after misses,” Van Boening said. "But I also made a couple of mistakes that I should have never have made. He played great and really didn’t make that many mistakes. I think I made more mistakes than he did and that is what cost me.

“He was breaking good and I was breaking bad. There were more people in here(the Al Arabi Sports Club) which changed the temperature and the break a little bit. I really think that was the difference. My break wasn’t working for me. I was having trouble getting a clear shot to run out. That’s the way the game plays.

“There’s nothing I can do. I’m not that disappointed. It’s an honor to play in the world championship finals. I know I can’t win every tournament. Either way if I win or lose it was fun to play in the finals. I’ll be back.”
