Remove Morris? Are you crazy? He's got the best record on the team. from the website, :

Mosconi Cup record: Played in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. Matches played: 19, won 16, lost 3, winning percentage 84%.

are you kidding? i mean shaun is a good player, but cmon!

Instroke I respect your opinion, but Shawn is one of the most youngest dedicated players around. He changed his fast paced party life for pool, and i respect him for that. He is a friend of mine and always a gent at every tourny. Not to mention when he is in dead punch I dont think anyone has to like it. This is just my opinion, I respect all others....................

Thanx,
Frankie

Is he an arguable top 5 player though? Could you make a case for him being in that group? for the record I wouldn't know I've never seen him play.

Keep Earl. I've been watching the matches on Fox but I also paid to watch it on the Web live when it was going on. I thought both teams lacked sportsmanship overall and I thought Drago had as many antics as Earl. I blame Kim Davenport somewhat for possibly picking some bad match-ups and not injecting life into the team. And the more I see of Deuel, the less I seem to like him. He really becomes a wet noodle with his emotions when things aren't going his way.

Keep:
Archer, Earl, and Shane

Possibly replace:
Deuel and Morris

Bring back:
Jeremy Jones, John Schmidt, or maybe Gabe Owen

It's amazing that Davenport didn't use the recent US Ryder Cup examples of a lack of comradery hurting a team. We have all seen that golf's #1 and #2 don't play well with each other.
This is a surprising list. Morris has the highest win percentage of any player on either side in the history of the Mosconi Cup so there is no way to make an argument for him to be left off. Archer and Shane are good choices to stay though.

And Earl is not even near being in the top 5 Americans at this point in his career and has no business being on the team. John Schmidt is probably in the same boat. Deuel has been slipping so I can see the argument being made for him to go. Jeremy Jones has not been at the top of his game for several years now, although it seems that he is starting to make a come back. Gabe should definitely be brought back.

Yeah wasn't trying to be hateful, i just don't think he's top 5, at least not yet! No offense meant Frank, and who know's what a year will do. I mean look at the difference in the way people view SVB compared to a year or two ago!

Yep...that's why he was MVP two years ago.

As one who wishes pool would be more POPULAR...I say give us TEN more Earls. Has no one ever heard of John McEnroe or Jimmy Connors in tennis?

Or Bobby Night in basketball??

Want 20 more examples from POPULAR sports??? I got 'em.

Who needs to GO is Michaela Tabb!! As cute and expert as she is, she needs to STOP shushing the fans every time they get excited about the matches...Like pool is some sort of prayer meeting or a 4th grade class.

Regards,
Jim

If i was Earl i would try to hook up with Michaela because not only would he be a happier guy but it would drive those wankers nuts! :D

I think they should bring Charlie "Hillbilly" Bryant to the USA team.

He'd have the Europeans scratching their heads and saying " Huh, What'd did he just say?" with that southern drawl of his. LOL

That really would bring new meaning to the saying about the Brits and the Americans, "Two peoples seperated by a common language!"

Plus, if a fight broke out, my money's on Hillbilly!!! LOL

why ?

Why would anyone even start this thread after the beating Earl gave
Peach this year ?It's so easy to set back and judge someone like Earl
for being passionate and giving a shit about this sport .Very few people
in the world have ever played pool at the level he has .

I prefer not to discuss Earl's behavior, or lack of it. But for me the bottom line is that he is no longer one of the top US players. Gabe Owen definitely belongs on the team, and John Schmidt is another top player we could use. Larry Nevil, Dennis Hatch, Louie Ulrich, even young gun Justin Bergman. And if they'd let a Canadian join the team (and they should), then put John Morra on their too. I'd like to see more of the rising stars get a chance to show their stuff.

The Mosconi Cup is an important International event in pool, and there is a lot of passion when the two teams play. It is definitely NOT an exhibition! These guys all want to win badly! And there is considerable money on the line as well, in case you didn't know.

Let's see, Rodney, Shane, Schmidt, Archer, Owens and Hatch. That's my dream team. That crew would be hard to beat if managed properly. Archer with Hatch, Schmidt and Rodney, Gabe and Shane. Let's see how Europe matches up with this crew. And they all would be on the same page, something sorely lacking at the last one in Vegas.

While I agree the foreign fans act like they are in a stadium watching a boring football game and need to shut up I dont agree with what Earl has done either. I know he catches alot of flack but a good bit of it he has brought on himself. Then someone mentions right after the MC that he was on painkillers and that made him act like that. Funny that I have to take heavy painkillers and I'm not snapping sticks and trying to dog my opponent during league play.

MC and Earl

in whatever way they do it, Matchroom succeeds in bringing pool to the big crowds. In Holland all that viewers remember is that Pearl guy...but it is time to make way for the young guns. Team USA has plenty of extravertness with Rodney and Schmidt

For the blowhorns and the loud cheering of the fans, in my opinion it's great for televised pool. put a shotclock on, viewable player heart-rate, get the crowd to interact, i even would like to try to allow noise/cheering/sharking during shots like in basketball. as a player i would not mind a compromise with television, adjustments that make it a more telegenic sport...only condition, that races are long enough or pockets tight enough

see you in Vegas in May!

Thats the reason pool is where it is in the rankings of sponsorships in sports. who would want some egghead like that endorsing their product. You should really consider upgrading your hero worship.---Smitty

I watched him beat SVB in their first match-up at SBE (they were both ON), so I think he has potential to be good enough. I think the point here is that Shaun is a credible player, credible for that event, and would likely be a respectful ambassador of the game -- Earl is not. Analogous to football, I'd take any high-quality, under-rated wide receiver over someone like Terrell Owens, who is in it for himself and sets a really bad (terrible!) example for young people who are interested in the sport. Earl is the T.O. of pool!

I was there this year. The Euros in the stands were awesome. They made the whole show. They were gracious and cheered for their team. You could tell that no one from the US really gave a crap, fans and team alike. Here's what needs to happen. Leave the families at home. Pick younger talent. The euros are going to kick our butts next year again if this picture doesnt change. Oh, and thank Matchroom Sports for running a wonderful show. ESPN could learn alot about showing off pool from this organization.

i think corey should get cut before earl does. despite his behaviour, i actually think earl cares about what happens. corey seems to just show up for a paycheque, he seems indifferent when he gets dominated.

Honestly I dont really know what all the hype bout peach is all about?!?!?!?!

What. He won the WPC... wow......... he is a godlike poolplayer??

Im sorry but Peach is a overrated lollipop * sorry to all you bald folk* headed dick........and his playing sucks imo. I dont give 2 poo's what he won..........jsut my own personal opinion :)

I always knew there was something I liked about you. Tell it like it is! :)

I'd much rather watch Earl Strickland, a five-time World Champion, than robotic Buckingham Guard-like players with no personality.

Earl Strickland won his championships on pure skill and not gaffes like bird-breaking.
