Here are some pictures of the Jay Helfert Ginacue. Before and after.

One picture shows the wild bend in the forearm before the full restoration by Ernie Gutierrez of Ginacue. The cue was almost a boomerang! Now the cue is absolutely stunning.

I was very fortunate that Ernie agreed to take on this project. It was far beyond a normal restoration, and required what some might call a cuemaker`s version of open heart surgery. Voila!

Great zebrawood, just like the original. Ernie`s wife had been using this piece of wood to wrap christmas lights, likely for decades! Wow, it looks much better in person than these pictures can show.

Thanks Ernie, for bringing another piece of Ginacue history back to full playing form.

And thank you Kevin Brewer. As always, it is a pleasure to work a deal with you. This one is a deal!

(I hope these attachments work...my first time at it). ;)

Looks fantastic. It is amazing what a big hammar and a little Bondo will do .(LOL)

Jay needs his a$$ kicked for letting this happen in the first place. ;)

Nice looking cue.

And they said it couldn't be done or that Ernie wouldn't do it. Kudo's to Will for convincing him................and man was that fast...........didn't the auction just end?? Goes to show you can move mountains in a short time.

Best Regards

Crime stopper!!

Thats what you are. A crime stopper!
It would have been a crime for this awesome Gina (with a pedigree to boot), to have anything less than a complete and perfect restoration by Ernie himself.
Congratulations! this is one of the best cue stories ever.
Wow a brand new 1960's Gina...Wow.

P.S.
Shame on you jay! I don't want to ever hear about someone having to straighten your butt out again! :) :)

Give Jay a break.
He lived in his car for a while .
I don't think a merry widow zebrawood would stay straight for a month.
Cored, yes.
Great job by the man as usual.

interesting. ive never worked with zebrawood but ive seen a few like tads. uncored i thought.

joey you just want to core everything...lol;)

To be clear, Jay has done as much for pool and billiards in his adult life as about anyone. Anywhere. And for that, we are all thankful.

I fully expect the book he has just published, Pool Wars, to be one of the best written and most sought after pool books ever!

No one knows the road this particular cue has traveled. Jay may only have owned it for one week of its 44 year life.

I don`t think anyone here is meaning to bash Jay. Have some fun, yes.

And thanks for the nice comment about Ernie`s work on this cue.

Wow!! That's an amazing job of revitalizing what I would have thought to be a worthless piece of junk. Can you tell us how he was able to straighten the forearm? Or is it a trade secret? Turned out real nice by the way.

The story about hte cue is in his book, something about he pawned it cause his toupee blew off and he had a date that night and needed a new rug.....I cant rememer the story its in the book.;);)

just busting chops, I do remember Jay mentioning the Cue in the book but briefly, He will come here and tell the story.

its a great lloking cue, how Ernie fixed it is just as amazing to me as the cue it tself.

Will, awalys remember that when the time comes, 20 years 30 years who knows how long, I'm in 1st position for hte Ed Kelly cue, i'm not big on historical cues unless i know who owned them and even then its not that important, but Ed's Gina cue is important to me.

I think Ernie chopped off the handle and used that as the forearm .
Then installed a new handle.
Must be nice when you have 20 lathes. Most with collet closer or Pratt chucks.
