RIP Justin Ramos aka 'justnum'......................

This hurts. I have to go think about it.

This guy had real heart, and he deeply loved our game. Was he out there sometimes? Most every really smart person is -- they just have to feel secure enough to let it go. Justnum obviously met both marks.

We, and many others, have just lost someone important. Extrapolating from my own feelings from this far-out cyber world, there must be much virtual sorrow. My heart goes out to all of his friends and family.

Should a link to this thread be added to the Condolences at Monroe's Linked In announcement?
They did have a celebration of his life at a basketball game on Wednesday, January 15th, with his family at 5:30 pm in the Monroe Athletic Complex in New Rochelle. I wish I had known about it.

Here the LinkedIn link if you would like to share this thread: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/monr...share-news-activity-7285006682449932288-TFtt/

He looks so young and handsome too. I wonder what happened.

I am very shocked and saddened by this news.

We locked horns over his outrageous takes and the way he would derail a thread. He seemed to take it all in stride and continued being himself. I admired him for that.

He was taken away from his family, friends and students far too soon. My heart is full knowing that he had such a meaningful impact on his students and the Monroe community.

He will truly will be missed. Rest easy Justin...

Well RIP indeed. I always thought he was not sane and with this info I even more wonder why he would put so much time in posting in the way he did.

Abother possibility could be that someone used his photo, but it does seem likely it's him as he's no longer posting and an imposter would not use "just" (justin) in his name. "num" = number? (math), could be. Or not.

@garczar : how did you know it was Justnum? Did you recognise him?

i always wondered, did he venture over to NPR?

i stay outta there but i always thought he might fit in well with godzilla ripping king kong’s arms and legs off and mothra cooking the body parts for political nightmares and constitutional debate
He did. He didn't talk politics, but if there was a tech or health discussion he'd post now & then...and with insightful information.

Justnum was a teacher. He was motivated to force people to think. It sometimes takes a shove to get someone moving. This seems to have held true as much on these pages as it did in his classroom. I would have liked to have sat in on some of his classes.

One big lesson he has taught here concerns the nature of cyber-friendship. Perhaps it devolves from shared affinity or a common interest. Regardless of the source, we know it is real.

i wonder who in his classroom or family knew of his exploits into random flushing pool rooms or his speculative billiard promotion theories?

AFAIK, he didn't know any of the regulars in flushing or the Queens pool community. I was planning on introducing him to some of kuyas (short stop pinoys) such as Mhet at Carom. He was my teammate last season, and played mainly in the leagues at Amsterdam.

Here is justnum's first post on AzB, from 1/1/2006:

"new guy post

I just got my account activated and I would sign up for the DCC room. Count me in for like $40. Im not saying playing me is a free win but I am very willing to learn. I play straight pool in my league and dabble in 9ball, 8ball. Would like to play other games like one pocket, but haven't encountered too many people for those games."

A few weeks later he was already being called justdumb and a troll for arguing that one of the pro players from New York isn't a real New Yorker. He certainly had an "unusual" personality on AzB and had quite a 19-year journey here. I admit that sometimes, after reading particularly idiotic posts of his, I would silently wish he would quit posting here. Other times it just made me chuckle. And sometimes he had rather stimulating thoughts. He was an interesting character for sure, and I'm pleased to learn that he really was a teacher, one appreciated by students and colleagues. RIP, Justin, and my condolences to all who will miss him.
