Say a prayer for cole

Possible cure for cancer is out there ...

I'll be able to enter my dad in the tournament as well, I'm praying for a full recovery. :)

Hello Cole ...

There is a new cure for cancer out there but I do not know which cancers it will cure, but it is certainly worth looking into. This info is on a 7 year old girl. This looks like a clinical trial # "CTL019" and it may aready be closed I do not know, but very encouraging for those who have cancer. Here is just a little info from the web site itself:
.................................................. ................................................

They went to Cancer Center at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which is known for testing and paving the way for new cancer treatments.

“We needed to try something new, different and cutting-edge,” Kari said, according to the Daily Mail.

Doctors brought up the idea of submitting Emily in a clinical trial that uses a disabled form of HIV to bring cancer-fighting genes to her T-cells. The idea behind the study is to reprogram the immune system to attack the cancer cells.

“We were told that we were down to 48 hours of making a decision or she could start having organ failure,” Tom said.

So they decided to go for it on April 17, and Emily became the first child to undergo the treatments called CTL019. Although it was rough for the first couple weeks, her condition improved immensely By the end of April, she was breathing much better and her fever dropped significantly.

And months later, the results were even better.

I wish I could link it right now, but cole's twister banks against Luat...holy crap. He made Em effortlessly too. What a legendary and amazing player.

Wish him all the best, hope his recovery is swift and complete, look forward to him competing again!

I loved watching everyone play in the big pay ball games at the Billiard Palace... your dad was always in the mix to raise the bet...

Cole, I'm very sorry to hear this news I'll be praying. Last time we chatted I put it on you pretty good...did you respond???

I knew Cole way back in the early 70's. One of my favorites and a lot of heart. And man, what a player! A very cool guy for sure.
My thoughts and prayers are with you Cole.

Bring It !!!

All I gotta say to you right now is ''bring it''....You were around in S.IL when the pros started using the word ''brazillians'', Now that I think about it....you shudda Also, been on the Rolls Royce next to Rempe/Diliberto/Sigel/Liscotti, ya dam sure dressed better than Danny Diliberto did back then and were on par with the ''others'' in all their ways.

Christine, tell Cole that Frank the barber wishes the best for him. We first played in the late sixties. He was just a kid then. He developed into one of the finest players ever. He had a style of his own. He could make any ball from anywhere. Always a gentelman to play with. I hope the best for him.

Very sad. Never had the pleasure of meeting Cole (nor of personally watching him play), but I can say I love his banking style -- "whistlin' dixie" banks:

I have this Accu-Stats match DVD, and it's one of my favorites.

Sending warm thoughts to Cole and his family,

I had the pleasure watching Cole play at Buchtooth's in Manteca. He had obvously been playing all night and he looked bone weary! He had a hard time staying awake and looked like he was in desperate need of a couple of good night sleeps!! When it was his turn to shoot and he put that cue over the table, there was an obvious change that would come over him. His cue became steady and you could see him take a bead on his shot and he was transformed from a tired weary guy to a very steady player concentrating every second until the shot was executed. He would make incredible shots! I will never forget that morning and what I saw. It was spellbinding!!

I wish him well!! I will tell my son about him because he was with me (he was only about 12 at the time and he's 29 now). Cole was very nice to him and told him to do well in school and stay out of the pool halls. I always appreciated that he said that because he did said it in a very friendly and earnest way! Thanks Cole! Get well!!!

I remember Cole being one of the most interesting players to watch when first took up the game. Since that time I've heard many pool enthusiasts around California tell me that their best memory was "running with Cole". I heard this so often I was wondering if it was just fashionable to say this - "Yeah ...... I ran with Cole". Well, I thought about writing down the names of everyone who told me this and then ask Cole if he remembers any of these people. It seemed farfetched at the time. But chances are, many of them did run with Cole and got hooked up with hot pool games and other adventures.

I wish Cole all the best.

Young Cole from the Beard's Encyclopedia of Pool Hustlers:

"He was about 19 at the 1972 Las Vegas Stardust tournament. He went to the crap table and lost about $3,500. They never checked any ID, and he proceeded to blow his whole store. He borrowed $200 from someone and immediately went back to the tables to try and get even. But now that he was a "short-horn"* with a small bankroll, they asked him for ID and wouldn't let him play anymore because he was underage. He howled like a banshee but the creeps still wouldn't let him play. You see, once he was almost broke he suddenly became too young to gamble.

At the same time this was going on, there was a high-rolling sucker wandering through the Casino. He had on his head a beanie with a propeller on top. He had a loud whistle around his neck, and whenever he felt like it; he would blow it as loud as he could. He also sported a 15 or 16 year old blonde girl on his arm as he cavorted through the Casino. No security people even glanced at him."

Christine

Hi, Christine. I'm very concerned about Cole. I used to have a phone number on him, but I don't have it anymore.

Ronnie Allen said Cole may be getting an operation this morning. I hope everything goes well. If you speak to Cole, please let him know that I am thinking about him, and he is in my prayers. I sure would like to speak to him after the operation. If you could find a way to make that happen, I sure would appreciate it.

I am going to send you a private message with my cell phone number and my home phone. Please call. Thanks.

Hi Christine,
My name is John Hartzell & I was best friends with your Dad back when we were both ages 11 - 16 growing up in Fremont. You Dad was quite a baseball player with a left handed power stroke for the Michael's Jewelers Little League team. We had great fun during those years playing lots of sports, discovering girls etc. as you can imagine. Then one day a new place opened up called Fremont Family Billiards. Of course we had to check it out and we played our first game of pool. Well if there was ever a story of “the natural” it was watching Cole develop his game. He was fairly quickly tossed out of Fremont Family Billiards because he hustled everyone coming through the door and was constantly shooting off his mouth which I imagine has never left him. He and I went to Redwood City one day to visit Sax Del Porto and I bought a Willie Hoppe cue from Sax. Please tell your Dad that I still have that cue as a souvenir of those days. The friendships you make at ages 12 – 15 are the ones that stick in your mind and I will forever remember those times with Cole. What a great friend. The last time I saw him must have been 1967 and I gave him a ride to the airport in San Jose. He was flying off to Chicago or somewhere to play somebody. Our lives parted 45 years ago but please relay to him that I treasure those times together and that he is in my prayers to beat this.

Thanks for sharing this story John. Your friend Cole was unique in the pool world, even as a teenager. I never knew anyone else so young who would hop a plane and fly cross country for a game, and a big money game at that. He was legendary!

Pray for Cole

This is Tommy Baker. I first met Cole in 1970, I was 18 yrs old and met him at Billiard Palace in Bellflower Ca. Loved watching Pay Ball games with all the champs which Cole was one of. We hung out at Bob's Billiards in Orange County and Pistol Pete's, Played Pool all night. When morning came we would go to the baseball diamond and play Over the Line and bet $500 a man. Myself, Cole, Keith, Crusher, Tony, Jimmy Reed, Joe Bell play baseball by day, pool hall by night. Cole was also great Baseball player, threw a great knuckle ball. Fun Memories, Praying for you Cole.
