If I recall (it was long time ago) Theo did it to Chris Nicholson in Des Moines, but it is definitely a rare occasion. Very few fights inside Iowa's pool halls. I've seen a few, but half are over a girl, or football, or spilled drink etc....usually not pool unless someone cheats or gets aired.
Theo did that? He seems so calm. I remember a few years back in Waterloo when he won first in (9-ball?). He showed no emotion on his way up the ladder. 'course Chris used to get a rise out of us, back in the day, as I remember it.
Which reminds me....You might know my ol' playing partner, whose name I shall not say. He and I got into fights about 25 or 30 times over pool crap. He did most of it, but I got sucked in, too, of course. No guns, no knives, no cues....just fist and a lot of duckin for me. I can't fight my way out of a paper bag, but I backed him every time.
The only time the cops came (while we were still there) was when we had to chase a guy out the front door of Stormy's who had MY $10 still in HIS pocket. I got my $10 but that guy got 4 days in the VA hospital with a bad head injury. He jumped me from behind, I turned and laid a perfect punch on his jaw (I'd been breaking so well that night----they still had the mud ball on the 8' table---and I remember it felt just like a break shot), his head went sideways and just then, my buddy body-checked him against the brick wall in the alley there. Not good.
The only reason the cops came was they were driving by the front of the place (!!!) just as we all piled out the door after the chiseler. By the time they got around the side to where we were, he was laid out on the driveway with blood coming out of his head.
Self defense was the call, but I worried that I had killed him. From that moment on, all bets above $10 were posted.
