Shame on you guys

Thanks for your post Blackjack. It made me feel sad that you didnt get to go to the DCC. It was a wonderful event and I made a lot of friends. It would have been nice to have met you. This is where I actually saw the hard work Justin, Chad and their crew put in bringing this stuff to us. The Pagulayan/Shane match was the pinnacle of the feed. Tell me where else would you get to see it live? All we would be doing is hearing people who were there talking about it in pool halls when they got back.
Please note that I was addressing it to mostly the people who would watch it for free but not do it on the PPV day. Last nite there were over 200 viewers. I hope that it would at least reach that. But unfortunately there were only about 35 on the first PPV day. Like you said about some people who were just interested in only getting your stuff free and not willing to pay for it. "YOU SUCK".
That is my opinion. It was not to the whole pool and AZ world I was talking to. It was those who would get in line for free but not pay when it came time to. Particularly for a nominal fee. I even said in my later posts I was talking about myself. That I shouldnt be a nit and freeloader. And the knowledge that Justin, Chad, et al are busting their butts over this. Gotta love guys who drive all the way from S Dak. through the terrible weather to do this. And always trying to do well for their customers. THose who have been on the PPV know this. The guy has been working non stop to give us proper feed and access.

I am not a politician and I am not out to get anyones vote. Especially from those who just want to argue their opinions to me in an obsessive manner. They need help or medication. I stand by what I said. I would say it to your face. Like TAR T shirts say. BET SOMETHING.

In case you hadn't noticed a lot of posters to this thread disagree with you. And a HUGE majority of the membership don't care to pay.

So, all those people SUCK and should be ASHAMED and are NITS and FREELOADERS and OBSESSIVE?

Whatever.

Doug "SEX" is never free. We all end up paying one way or another. Ask Bill CLinton.

Purchased 2 sets of DVDs from them (Race to 100 and Race to 21) and will be buying more DVD sets from them at VF.

I find it hard to sit in front of my computer and watch something, normally I have to be doing something on it. Playing a game, internet browsing, whatever.

So I wait for the DVDs, I havnt been watching the free feed for more then an hour a day.

Can't wait to see those guys at VF though. :D

Well, I must admit, I've been watching it Free for the past 4 hours non-stop and while blue is my favorite color, that "Off Air" show is BORING.... imo

Okay... I just got a few PM's...

Just FTR... the people I said "YOU SUCK" to... were people that downloaded my book, printed it out and were selling it at a recent event. Those people do suck because they are stealing from me. That statement was NOT all inclusive, nor was it targeted at anyone that is viewing TAR for free - just making sure there is no confusion.

My post was made to show that all business endeavors need cashflow to survive, no matter what it is that you are selling. If we don't support endeavors like TAR (and my books) there will come a time when neither is available. That is inevitable if everybody just wants the free stuff.

Just for the record, my post you quoted was to yabugua not you. I am in the music publishing business (and others) and don't like copyright infringement any more than you do.

Personally, I am tired of donating money over years and years. And for what? To have people run off with it, not send what they promise? In no way have I seen my money going to "helping" the game or the industry in the last 17 years. It has just been a couple of people that make their pockets deeper through an enthusiast's hopes of promoting the game.

I just keep getting a swift kick in the ass.

I am not saying that is what TAR is doing, I understandably get wary when there is a "call" to donate money for the sake of the industry. I am also not talking about tangible helpful items such as books, DVD's or training aids. You pay for a tangible item that you benefit from.

In business you have to look at all aspects when building your business model, and at all known aspects of that industry you are trying to be apart of. If there hasn't been a big interest prior with enthusiasts spending their money for this kind of thing, they should know this coming in. I remember the BCN trying to have a run at this just 4 years ago or so, and where are they now? At that point, just like everything else in this game, I would imagine a big part of putting TAR together is because they have to love it.

What do I always hear? Play for the love, not the money. Almost any venture you do within this industry is the same, do it for the love, and almost no money.

No more donations for me, thanks though.

Just $1 per league player per week of league season would be enough to fund an organization to develop pool all the way from novice to professional. This amount would not be missed by any league player and would put American pool on the same level or perhaps even a higher plane than any other country's.

But it won't happen. Too much self interest for the APA, BCA, VNEA, ACS, TAP to ever combine to fund such an organization.

Please do not lump the BCA Pool League into your group of "self interest" groups. Mark Griffin and the BCAPL are doing what they can to help Justin and Chad from TAR. They are both upstanding guys that are doing what they can for the world of pocket billiards. They are certainly not getting rich doing what they love to do (promote the game).

The reality is that A LOT of people aren't willing to pay for anything when it comes to pool. They have short arms and deep pockets and they snub their nose and grumble about anything that they have to pay for. A lot of people don't like hearing that, but it is the truth. There are those that genuinely cannot afford it. I can relate to that all too well.

i would say that the first point applies to people in general to be honest, not just pool sadly.

another thing is i think TAR are a few years too early. i personally am into pc's and i have a top notch system with a bigger and better LCD screen than most TV's, and 7.1 surround sound too. i have a nice big comfy reclining chair and if i am not out, then a good 90% of my time is spent in it watching films, playing games, browsing the net, etc.

Most people aren't like me however and it's simply not convenient or comfortable to sit in front of their pc for long periods. that's the bottom line i think. hypothetically if the PPV was on the TV and they just needed to go to such and such channel and put in their PIN i've no doubt TAR would do a lot better.

As the technology gets better in the next few years, the appeal of their product will increase. better picture quality, faster streaming, more people have better pc's, etc etc. Assuming they choose to stick with it for that long of course. And this is not to suggest the current product they provide is not already of a high standard. the PPV feed is nothing like the free one and the picture quality is great, and very smooth too. tv like.

for the record too i haven't made any recent purchases because i'm absolutely skint till i start my new job.

No one is bashing anyone. Look at what TAR provides. 6 free days. One payment of $15 is not to much to ask from most people. Its a Movie and popcorn. Its two 6 packs. Its a carton of cigarettes, its one lap dance, its one and a half hour of pool. As a pool community we got to show more support for people like TAR. Today there was less than 40 purchases. There were more than a hundred on the free days. We just got to do better.
Its not if you could spend the whole day on your computer. Its showing support for guys who are fighting for us. If we dont do our part how can we expect they to do theirs.
we should show more support for the homeless and and the underfed people.......maybe they should rethink their ppv

I bought WIN-TV so that I could watch TV on my computer monitor, but has the jitters and the 20" monitor is too small.

You are right and they are coming out with Plasma and LCD high def large screen TVs with monitor inputs so that I can watch TAR as it should be.

I don't have much discretionary time to watch anything for I would rather shoot pool when I can. I haven't even watched Efren and Morris on the free IPT feed.

I have a hard drive TV recorder so I can watch TV when I want/can but can't do that with TAR so I guess I can buy the DVDs if I have time or even think about it.

I have given $$ to AZ to get J. M. or RudeDog to an East Coast Tourney
and will again for another or TAR - where can I send my check for a few bucks to help out the sport?

Can AZ start a TAR fund?

My point had nothing to do with what Mark is doing with and for TAR.

Interesting thread.

I hate to say it but if I hadn't seen this thread I wouldn't even have known there was an event taking place. I've been busy with work & playing pool & haven't had much chance to get my AZB fix!

Now, I've never bought a TAR feed before because until recently I've barely had enough money to play pool, let alone pay to watch it. That is changing somewhat now but my priority will always be playing the game, not viewing. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be able to sit & watch the feeds but it never works out for me, unless it's the rare occasion where I'm up until dawn (like now!)

I have nothing but admiration for the work the TAR guys are doing. I really would like to have a watching party with my teammates some day & I hope that happens.

That's my position on the debate.
