Shotty tip work (rant and questions)

Wow
That is an awful job
The old adage that you get what you pay for applies here I think.
I can't imagine letting work like that out of my shop

Wow that is by far the worst job I have ever seen on a tip replacement barring

someone cutting your ferrule on an angle. We have many butchers around here

as well that claim to know how to replace a tip. If you want to see how a

professional does it watch this video. Everyone else is just an imposter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rj3ldQvWgmM

I appreciate the offer! AZ is full of great people!
...he even trimmed them even with the ferrule but he would't round the tip off for me "because its a layered tip" <----WTF????...
Can someone please explain to me where this thinking comes from? This is the second or third time in the last few days I've heard someone say another person said you can't shape a tip round if it's a layered tip..? :scratchhead:

These tips are layered, and look, and more importantly, play perfectly....(G2, Predator Victory, Kamui Clear Black)

Yeah I dont understand the "cant round a layered tip" thing either...Been playing with layered tips for the last 12+ years and this is the first I have heard of it...he said it would pop a layer off if he tried to round it. I was just tired of dealing with the guy and shaped them my self...

I can help as well

U can never go wrong with these. This is all I ever use. No one to blame but urself for shotty work. Slip them on and go from there. Two minutes of work and it's perfect. If any one wants advice on how to put these on feel free to pm me. Thanks.

ivory

U would not be disappointed with these tips. I don't know if they are ivory or not, but if uwant one i can charge u triple the price and we can say that it is. Thanks.

They hit real good. They keep their shape like a hard tip. They play like a moori medium. Also it looks like an elk master. With these tips u can jump, shoot, masse, break, draw, follow, and everything else in between.

Like many I consider Joe Blackburn to be the best in America for repairs.

The stuff I do is on par,not only with the pics Rain Man posted, but anyone else.

Hopefully, there will be proof posted here SOON. Tommy D.

There are many ways to replace a cue tip with superb results. I'm not a nit-picker about flawless shiny jewel like perfection. A nice white ferrule and a well-shaped tip are all I need. I have enjoyed this thread though, made me look at how others handle tip replacements.

This guy has a very neat way that I am going to try myself:

O god I see a dark spot on my ferrule!!! My game is ruined!

I think if you are playing pool with a cue that costs $8,000.00, you might wish to avail yourself of the many excellent mental health professionals out there. Have a jeweler replace the tip at that point. Otherwise, grind down a putty knife to a razors edge and get to work.

Just my opinion,

Lesh

It'd be nice to get out to PHX and play some real players again...hell its been 7-8 yrs since I've played out there...Is Bull Shooters the room that took over the old Lazy Cue? I trust that Kolby's 6-Shooters and Main Street are still around?

No, Bull Shooters took over the old Sixshooters at 35th Ave, & Peoria. Metro Sportz Bar, where Jazz is located, is just 1/2 mile east of Bull Sjhooters. I'm normally at Bull Shooters Mon. thru Sat., but I don't know what hours Jazz keeps. Either of us could do you a much better job next time around. And if you like, I will see what I can do to clean those first two up at no charge. If interested, call ahead at 602-320-9553 to make sure I'm available. Leave a message if I don't answer (I'm leery of long-distance area codes).

Best of luck,
Roger

Man, what a horrible job. I replace my own tips and a lot of other peoples tips in my area. I don't have a lathe but I still get a quality result. There is no excuse for work like that. He either has no clue what he is doing or has no self respect (let alone respect for you and your equipment). Sorry you got hosed.

Your a beauty for making such an offer

The bad thing is that I prepaid because he had to order the tips...There's one billiards supply store here in Kingman AZ and the guy that did my cue is where they send their business for re-tips re-wraps and table work :eek::eek::eek:

have you checked for anyone in Bullhead?
