I just wanted to say I really enjoy your commentary on the Accu-Stats matches. A friend let me borrow some and I really like the way you call a match. You are very matter of fact and I like that.
You said one of the funniest things I have heard in commentary to Jim Wych (sp?) during the Alex and Fransisco match from the 2005 US Open. You asked a question about wondering what the statistics were regarding who wins the first rack in relation to who wins the match. Jim said something about breaking first and you replied "Jim that isn't really relevant to anything I just said" or something along the lines of that. I laughed out loud. Anyways just wanted to let you know I like your work.

I agree, Billy I. has always been one of my favorites along with Mark Wilson.
 
Billy gets to the point, tells you how he'd do it before the guy tries to make the shot, and leaves the rest for you to watch. Very enjoyable. Johnnyt
 
Maybe Billy would volunteer to overdub the Shane/Alex TAR 10-Ball DVD set commentary by John Schmidt and co. I'm sorry, but that was terrible until Jeanette got in the booth and got them on track. The guys by themselves talked about most any other topic other than the match itself and the players' shot selections. It was tiring and frustrating.

to be fair that was the live DCC action coverage it was different kettle of fish. it wasn't meant to be 100% focused commentary they were just chatting in general about the event, having a laugh, following the web chat etc.

the shane-corey dvd would be what you're looking for. billy and grady for 14 hours of focused commentary.


and billy is great as well let me say. i love the way he talks with his long winded sentences and big words sometimes. :D he's got bags of knowledge and delivers it in an entertaining, straight way.
 
I too have always liked to hear Billy doing commentary when watching an accustats match. I always crack up with him and Danny DiLiberto, they're like an old married couple.

Does anybody know whatever happened to Billy challenging Allison Fisher?

I found this thread and couldn't help but posting to add my thoughts about it. to be honest I never in my life saw anybody describe a match or make his statements on situations like Billy incardona. and I wish that he doesn't stop commentating on matches.. If billy saw this post, please don't stop commentating because you make the match extremly exciting and i love it.
also sometimes it happens to me when I see a match with different commentators I say to myself "oh my god i wish billy commentating this one, then I stop the tape" hehe. so yes, you are THAT good.

I appreciate all the favorable comments on my commentary,and I would like to add that doing commentary can be a highly critizable field and I have been criticized for my straightforward approaching style. And for those of you that like that, tell it like it is approach,will always be entertained and informed, as you watch the best players in the world play. And for those who dont like my work,I appologize but that's what I do and I dont believe i'm gonna change.

I have been doing commentary for over 20 years and it's good to know that i'm appreciated by many. It's your appreciation that is my certificate of acknowledgement. Thank you.

You are a great at commentating,i like Jimmy Mataya too,he is a character and just doesnt care what he says,lol. :D
 
I have to admit that one of the most special aspects of this game in my opinion is the older, experienced generation of players who share their knowledge with the younger, thirsty ones. Its easy to respect people like this.

Billy I have hundreds of Accustats tapes going back to the early 90's. I enjoy you and Diliberto immensely. I wish though that you had a support team that could give you information about certain facts at the time the game is going on. Like network sports does. It would be great if you had the info on the players at hand to help you with your interpretation of the ongoing scene. It would be nice to know the players past experiences, how many times they have met, what are their backgrounds, who their mentors are, etc. Sometimes this is missing in your commentary and it would only make it more succesful.

One pocket is the main thing I watch, so Billy is my favorite, too. I like him paired with Diliberto, Wych, 1 or 2 others, and a guy who is surprisingly good, Freddie Bentivegna.
One minor criticism- and this might have been recently addressed-sometimes Billy "pops" when talking into the mike. It means he is too close to the mike. He should use a "pop" guard-one of those big fuzzy balls that go on the mike. Popping is very distracting.

Don't worry, sometimes he "pops" in person too. That's when you get a little moisture on your face. :D

I like Billy's commentating too. He just got so rich he doesn't need the work anymore. Maybe if he books a few losers, he will have to come back to work. Fat chance! :)

I can't agree more with what is said in this thread.
Billy his first-hand knowledge helped me appreciate somany sutle details and strategies. It's a very fun way to be entertained and learn at the same time.
This kind of in-depth commenting could give the mainstream insight in the beauty of pool.

I still remember the 1-p match between Parica and Slivka were Billy and Freddie B. teamed up. There was some awesome chemistry between you two.

My personal favorite is the corey deuel vs efren reyes match that billy commentated for.. The love he has for Efrens game is great but its funny in most matches billy can say exactly what a player is going to do most of the time but in that match with efren and corey he would say ok.. lets see what he does here. Lets see what magic trick hes going to pull off now.

Then efren would make an amazing shot and fascinate everyone.. same with corey.

Just my fav match to both watch and listen to.

Yes, you are the greatest commentator Billy, and I love working with you.
What makes it even more of a pleasure is when we have a difference of opinion on a shot and I prove to be right (which is a common occurrence), you so graciously shut off my mike for the rest of the match in order to give me time to contemplate my impetuosity.
